In retrospect the round design had its charm, like you could hug it, but at the time when I got my first XP computer I thought it was ugly as shit and changed it to classic windows look with high resolution one (the darker one with slight purple).

To me XP represented a particular time in computers. It played well with a lot of DOS software meaning it allowed you to dip in to decades of shareware and history, not to mention there was a reason to use some of it. It also came at a time when hardware was still improving yearly, which meant that by only a few years in to its life it became really snappy. Add in to this that the same thing was happening with internet speeds, meaning you could go in to the past 10x faster than they hoped you could, or use the modern web swiftly.
Add in to this all the various programs like instant messengers, P2P, torrents being fucking everywhere, etc.
I don't think anyone misses XP as much as they miss what they used XP for,
Xavier Myers
msn messenger was good times user
Kayden Roberts
For me it just goes hand in hand really. I miss both the times and the OS. I wonder where we went so wrong to end up where we are today.
Adrian Baker
>It played well with a lot of DOS software
no it didn't

You know that balloon that nags you to take a tour when you first log in to XP? It's from the flash version of that tour.
The last two are from the Whistler beta, but those were cut.

Forums were actually pretty cool back then
>helpful members
>great learning resources
>you actually made friends there
>sharing was caring
>efficient public board software
Now it's all like:

>most people are strangers to one another

Creed - Higher because the Titan A.E. trailer with it was an incredible experience...Then I saw the movie.
What a missed opportunity that was. With a trailer set to lyrics like that, and the movie's subject matter, I was expecting a far more cerebral movie even though I had no way of putting it in to words like that at the time.
Carson Watson
Vista looked far prettier
Jayden Cox
>not understanding that "warm the towel" means "say hello before demanding shit of us."
I literally saw that phrase for the first time and understood what they meant.

not really
it's just an inside joke on the forum

I installed XP on an SSD on as new X60's 2nd partition. Oh lord, why hath we forsaken him?

There's no reason not to use XP as a work horse, but then have a Linux machine you use for online.
William Morgan
Stop it man, I got dust in my eyes that's all.

how do you make a cat cry
Austin Nguyen
Cats don't cry, if they have watery eyes it's usually a sign of illness, some irritant in there, or an injury
Charles Gomez
The last good Windows version.
Andrew Bailey
they do sometimes, if you tell them off really strongly
t. had 2 cats, a naughty girl cat and an innocent fat boy cat
she used to annoy him and hit him all the time
it wasn't equal playing
play fighting is one thing
but it wasn't play fighting, they used to cuddle for the firts year or so, then she went off him
didn't talk to him or play with him or anything, just kept hitting him in the head
poor boy cat wouldn't fight back, he loved her, but she was just vicious towards him
she did it again one day, boy cat squealed out of sadness
then i got pissed off at her, yelled at her at the top of my voice
she scampered out of the room but i wasn;t going to let her get away with it, poor boy cat was getting bullied for too damn long
followed her, roaring at her at the top of my voice, hitting things, stomping on the ground
she was shocked, she'd never seen this side of me in the 3 years she'd been with me
she kept trying to get away, i didn't let her, i kept following her, bellowing obscenities at her, stomping like a monster, staring right at her, finger pointed right in her face
eventually she just sort of gave up and collapsed on the floor, prostrated in the corner, while i kept the shouting and fingerpointing going
she just stopped moving and looked away, as if in shame
i went back to comfort poor boy cat
a few minutes later when i went back into the living room, she was still there, not moving, not looking at me, but i could clearly see tears in her eyes, they were like watery saucers
Dylan Cook
A daring synthesis.

lol, yes it did. It was more in your face about activation than any other version before or since.

why the fuck was such a great song included with XP?
I must have listened to this shit hundreds of times jesus christ.

Nice try, but is not enough. Try again, tray harder.

she knew she was in the wrong
the next day she came to me and stood on my chest and did the whole scratching my chest and purring non-stop and squeaking thing (even grown cats go into that infantile mode where they act like a baby kitten trying to elicit milk from mummy)
and i let her gently scratch and nuzzle my chest as much as she wanted and larp as a kitty, and i babied her, probably for 30+ minutes so it was all good again
Leo Turner
This.
I sincerely miss text chat systems like AIM and MSN. There's really only person I miss talking to. Tim, where ever you are and whatever you're doing, I hope you're happy.
Thomas Gonzalez
I have nostalgia for Vista and I admit it's shit, seven had the comfines down pat. 8 and 10 are designed to be the opposite of comfy
Eli Myers
10 will be comfy in a few years, just you wait.
