Why ThinkPad? >Used machines are plentiful and cheap >Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet >Great durability: magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, high quality plastic body panels >Utilitarian design: indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models >Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop >Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain >The TrackPoint™, great for those who type a lot or hate niggers swiping their fingers all over a touchpad >Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support
Just bought a x200 on ebay for $66 (8gb ram and came with a hard drive)
Gonna libreboot it what distro / desktop environment should I use
Owen Ramirez
windows 10 ltsc
Aaron Powell
fuck, just realized OPs going back to have >The TrackPoint™, great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad replaced with >The TrackPoint™, great for those who type a lot or hate niggers swiping their fingers all over a touchpad
whoever keeps adding this back in: do you think you're funny, nigger?
Just opened up my X200. I have several questions.. sorry if they're dumb. a) what goes in the space above the WLAN card? .. I know X200 can't have mSATA SSDs. b) I have a third antenna lying next to the two that are connected to the WLAN card (pic related) and I also don't have a webcam, so does that mean I could buy a 3x3 WLAN card and get way fast speeds? c) can an X200 use an X220 keyboard, even if the trackpoint buttons won't fit in the palmrest? .. the connector looks very similar. d) best WLAN card upgrade for X200?
Any other Lenovo models that carries a eDP 14-inch FHD display? I've bought 3 panels off ebay and they all came broken. I got my money back though. I'm thinking of just buying some sort of FHD ideapad in the local market, taking off the screen, putting my 768p in place and selling the laptop off. What do you think?
Ethan Turner
A) Intel Turbo memory. Totally not worth to use B) you could get a 5300 agn to use all 3 antennas, or flash a custom BIOS of you want to install a newer card. C) Intel 7260
Nicholas Davis
Is there a working perks code right now?
Carter Williams
does esata power a hdd well enough, or will I need to get one with an extra usb cable?
Bentley Allen
a) I thought the Turbo Memory slot was on the other mPCIe connector, underneath the power button? b&d) how about a flash and an Atheros QCA9880?
Anthony Campbell
Fuck, then the wwan card goes in that slot instead. And yeah, a 9880 should do the job.
Christian Gutierrez
>what goes in the space above the WLAN card? wwan card or also some other random shit like mpcie to usb adapter, broadcom hardware h264 decoder, mpcie to microsd adapter
Joseph Howard
>wwan so if my X200 didn't come with a WWAN system, the antenna leads for it just won't be present? my X230 never had WWAN but it still had blue and red antenna connectors. strange.
>so if my X200 didn't come with a WWAN system, the antenna leads for it just won't be present? I think that varies by version or serial number. My X61t didn't came with wwan and didn't have the wwan antennas, however the t420, x220t, t430, t520 and t440p all came without wwan but had the wwan antennas. WWAN is sort of obsolete nowadays with tethering on smartphones anyway.
Robert Brown
I am fucking retarded. I replaced the DVD drive bit I forgot to put the little plastic piece that locks into the hatch. Thanks anyway.
T430 FHD IPS upgrade is definitely worth it. The stock display has horrible viewing angles.
I bought from the seller e-qstore on eBay. The only issue I had with the kit is the placement they have it in the guide is under the keyboard in the center, and it caused the keyboard to bulge. On my laptop without the dGPU, I just stuck it where the dGPU was and fixed the problem.
It's definitely worth the upgrade. Also, make sure you get an authentic B140HAN01.3 and not one of the reproduction ones.
Wyatt Gomez
Looking to buy my first Thinkpad. Going to be gutting HDD and solely using Tails with Libreboot. Is the x200 the way to go?
Blake Hughes
You could plug a wireless receiver for a mouse or something in it
Bentley Hughes
but bluetooth mice are a thing and even old thinkpads have bluetooth maybe one of those tiny usb drives with "decent" speed and install a linux distro on it or something
Elijah Allen
Idk there's probably some advantage. Bluetooth probably has more of an impact on battery life.
Wasn't aware but at the moment it does not matter any more. Thanks for the info anyway.
Gavin Baker
it seems easier to find a good, fast USB 802.11ac adapter than an mPCIe one. I suppose another option is mPCIe to M.2 adapter
Anthony Adams
So, I rescued Lenovo ThinkPad E330 from my sister. It has Pentium Incel CPU. Where can I get Core i5 Chips compatible with this mobo?
Cameron Ward
>E triple dubs were wasted on this.
Adrian Turner
Those aren't tripple dubs, just like E-series Thinkpads aren't real Thinkpads. But still, where can I get CPU?
Asher Allen
I'm thinking of getting a t530 from think pad depot, are they as reputable and worth it as they seem to be?
Landon Jenkins
Also, where can I get "Jow Forums certified toaster" sticker?
Samuel Long
It uses Ivy Bridge, check ebay for a cheap i5. Probably will not run a quad but a multithreaded dual core (which is every Ivy Bridge i5) will be a breath of fresh air. Also maybe make sure the E330 CPU is socketed instead of soldered before seeking that upgrade.
patchdynamics but they are sold out
Caleb Wright
>Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad yeah no thx gonna stick with dell and hp
Leo Scott
So, any IvyBridge Core i5 CPU should work. Yes, it unironically has socket, which is weird, considering that this is third-world spec laptop.
>chink battery Are they good? Anons here always say that they are trash
Chase Williams
I get between 3-5 hours, for the price of an OEM 9 cell you can buy like 4 chink ones
Jackson Walker
What's on that USB stick? Hopefully nothing too lewd...
Adam Hall
clonezilla or super grub disk 2, had to get a new ssd because my other one kept corrupting tonnes of packages
Jackson Hall
Could any anons gief some input please?
Ian Ortiz
Hard to say but you could always try the "magic code", unplug everything and >push the power button 10 times in a row at one second intervals. Next, you push and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After that try starting it up, it's possible that your circuit is fucked though.
David Rogers
Just seen lcdfans has a few remaining x210 for sale... very tempted to message and see the cost
Christian Garcia
can you ask kek, i want one but wont have money until april hoping theres still some available then
Justin Roberts
Will do, thanks. I pmed him about the latest gen x63 - $500 for the motherboard. I'm hesitant since I can't stand long wait times, and I received no ETA
Henry Ortiz
wouldn't kernel 4.19 work just fine on it? I could put cloveros on an a485 is if I bothered to buy one.
Caleb Nguyen
It's an issue with the motherboard firmware, not the kernel (tested it on my other computer). The IVRS table is fucked up and you need to specifically change it in the grub file. That's according to the forums, but I still haven't been able to get mine to work.
Nathaniel Stewart
Closest thing would be an A31p with the ultrabay numpad.
Easton Martin
What does the classic keyboard feel like? I keep hearing about how great it is, but I'd imagine it to be just any other membrane keyboard. Is that really it?
well the feel is just like a membrane keyboard I guess but the genius is not in the feel it's in the layout because it's so similiar to a desktop keyboard so if you're used to a desktop switching to a thinkpad it's seemless unlike other laptops where you have to adjust to the laptop keyboard
