Radeon VII is pretty slick. The V64 nitro is the most asthetic card ever built in my opinion.

How the fuck is this possible? I have a cheap non modular PSU and fit everything behind the tray in my compact atx case.

I had it and its the worst fucking pad ever made, it does looks good though

What are you talking about, this is a build by a fairly big technology-oriented website.

>missing screw on the watercooler

did Verge build this

Yes they did, the first build I ever did was not as bad as that.

there's a gif with vin diesel nodding and this board and i can never find it

I managed to shear the threaded end of one of those bolts once, they're pretty weak metal
cooler still worked fine but it bothered me

Mediocre cooling performance with the pull-configuration fans below the cooler, and it makes them fucking huge, but I'll be damned if Gainward Phantoms aren't the most stunningly beautiful graphics cards ever.

I can go on and on, 2006-2007 was cool.

The fuck is wrong with you Jow Forums?

Why even spend the extra cash on a dual chamber case and modular power supply if you're just gonna have a bird's nest of cables shoved into the main chassis?

Probably the last years before things went downhill especially in regards to video games. Before the completed arrival of the seventh gen of consoles and before games became all about graphics and online modes (ironically with fewer dedicated servers than ever), they still had a sense of a fully crafted single player experience to them. Also those times were the last hurrah of the single core processor and the CRT monitor. Gaming hasn't been quite the same ever since, it just had a completely different feel to it back then.

Because le epic black computer nerd

I wish more companies made sexy single slot cards

Say what you want about Bulldozer chips, at least they had some killer looking boards to put them in.

>proper VRM cooling without retarded shrouds with minuscule heatsinks
I miss those times

ey nice i have the GA-P67A-UD4-B3 in one of my old builds

Attached: cray2b.jpg (1000x826, 70K)

>Say what you want about Bulldozer chips
Piledriver refresh was the bomb, and my 990FXA-UD3 with 1.4v and Medium LLC does does 4.5GHz on fucking air while hitting 58C.

Also Verge takes notes on cable management.

Attached: IMG_0084.jpg (4032x3024, 2.28M)

The asus 990fx baords were a thing of beauty and POWAH. Nobody else took the centurion chips seriously.

I must've had the shittest FX-6300 in the world, because I could not get that thing beyond 4.3 without temps or voltages getting sketchy and retain any semblance of stability. Much preferred the old Athlon II X4 620 I had before it, that thing did 3.5GHz without problems just by fucking with the BCLK and adjusting some other multipliers to more sensible values.

Having lived my early teens through though the early '00s and experienced all that, you brought a tear to my eye user
It is truly a depraved and diluted time we live in

Attached: 1491815122748.png (322x340, 69K)

damn checked

What board did you have? becauseI had the same 8350 in an MSI board with 6 phase power and no LLC and 1.45 would not get 4.4GHz stable and temps were getting out of hand, and I had the same PSU and other components, all I changed was putting a UD3 in and it clocked amazing because of that medium load line calibration. That's why I love the UD3 rev 4 so much, because most people who have crappy VRM boards like I was using would think FX can't OC for shit.

Attached: 2017-09-26-496.jpg (4000x3000, 2.21M)

None other than pic related.

>Killer
Holy that that's better than a 990FXA-UD3, yeah that may be a dud CPU, because my 8350 is nothing special, but it's base clock is already 4GHz.

Holy shit*

Only drawback was the lack of LLC, so maybe I couldn't crank the voltage quite as hard as I may have wanted, but I'm pretty sure I had at least 1.35v going through that chip. Any higher and the temps would break 70°, which Bulldozer and its derivatives don't like.
Case probably wasn't helping with that either.

The Vishera 8 cores need 1.5375v to hit 4.7GHz without LLC, the 990FXA-UD3 with 1.475v and Medium LLC essentially is the same thing, the vcore is cranked super high because it knows it's gonna droop.

T W E E Z E R S

Thermals/noise make it hard
there was a single slot 1070 i had my eyes on for a long time but it wasn't meant to be

Yeah, that's a lot of voltage. I think I had mine set at 1.45 with no LLC, targeting around 1.30 to 1.35 under load. It's been a while since I last had it set up so I could be misremembering things.
That just makes me even more impressed with that little 620 though. Going from 2.6 to 3.5 with a minimal voltage bump is quite something.

Damn that's alot of vdroop, just another reason to love the Gigabyte UD3 because that fucking Medium LLC gets the vcore almost dead on perfect, a 1.4v setting will jump slightly to 1.416 instead of drooping to hell. And the X4 620 was a great chip at the time it came out, quad core for $90 back when that was a bigger deal.

Imagine, that your typical desktop is 10x as fast as that behemoth.

I have one of these. The huge heat pipes look great in person! The cooler is absolute garbage though. Even after replacing the paste it can barely keep temps below 90.

nice frying pan.

Awesome card. I have the Applel version of this - same thing but minus thr decal, minus the S-Video out, and plus EFI support.

Is this passive cooling?

Is this the Verge build? LMAO.

Based Applel getting the refrence card.

Those low end cards like GTX 1050ti could be like that, but for some reason they make it a chunky board.

Attached: cerb.jpg (1000x887, 98K)

GODDAMMIT I knew that pic looked familiar. That's exactly what it is.

Same with the 750ti when that card was hot, youd see cards running soley off the 75w PCIe with a giant dual slot cooler, I stuck with my HD7750.

Attached: 08012016121.jpg (4000x3000, 1.98M)

Not quite. It has a small Apple logo on the PCB iirc, and of course a custom BIOS that has an EFI driver in it to make it work with OS X since no non-Apple cards had this in 2008. Because of this, Apple had to charge like half again the price of a normal 8800GT, and it was the only option well after better cards were out - that is, if you wanted to use OS X. You can put whatever GPU you like into the machine and have it still run Windows or Linux (or perhaps Hackintosh) through Boot Camp's emulated BIOS.

the works of art that Cray built were textbook examples of what happens when you give an autistic genius an unlimited budget and tell them to build the absolute fastest thing possible with current technology

when people on a technology enthusiast board look at something beautiful and storied like that and can think of nothing but marveling at their cheap taiwanese facebook/games machine for being 3-4x faster according to geekbench, that's just saddening

Attached: r86r5865.jpg (3759x2760, 670K)

OS X can theoretically use whatever card you like just like any other operating system as long as drivers are provided, it's the system firmware that doesn't know what to do with it. You just wouldn't see any output until the operating system took over.
