what did you achieve by using that literally? you gonna switch wallpaper with some retarded underage cartoon girl then post it to wallpaper threads? or what

Void got me to stop distrohopping.

Does Steam works there?

this.
void has a comfy feeling that i cant explain. maybe its just me being retarded but it feel like home.

Why would you want to use that?

If you really insist on playing games, yes, it does.

How many packages are available?

Same.
Do sometimes feel an urge to check out a BSD variant though

>>best package manager
ever heard of portage?

Anyone using it on ARM devices?

Runs better than Debian.

work better than meme "just werk" botnet sysDicked distros like ubuntu

>4 packages in repos
>inb4 spend 100 kWh and 3 hours to compile packages

>void
more like avoid
Distro so minimal it got rid of the lead dev. Learn more at voidlinux.eu

I use void btw.

Sent from my macbook pro

.org not .eu

i've yet to find something that i need that isnt in the repos.
stop this meme.
also 4 packages are way better than thousands AUR quality ones.

Relatable

lead devs are bloat.

same here! void is brilliant distro and i love it for being that simple, fast and without SystemD crap :-) super awesome distro and very unique

I thought that he returned?

I tried Void in the VM and it worked great but how good will it work on bare metal, will there be problems with recognizing WiFi?

kek

>problems with recognizing WIFI

yes, all Linux has problem with this

if WIFI werent an issue, Linux would be great

reference to
voidlinux.org/news/2019/02/voidlinux-eu-gone.html

My manjaro handles wifi actually better than stock windows 10 2019.x build

So they don't have a forum at all?

voidlinux.org/packages/

gtfo retard.

but muh features

If you consider xbps anything other than a gimmick I pity you.
>libressl
Not exactly relevant but nice to have I guess.
>good cli installer
It's an installer. Nothing special.
>not archmeme
At least it's something.

>not archmeme
Sold.

welcome, user! you made the right choice.

xbps is amazing. runit is amazing. One aspect they're both amazing is the sheer speed. xbps installs packages 3-5 times faster than apt. runit is a twice faster than systemd when booting.

A bunch of stuff uses OpenJDK 8. That's not on the repos.

try to install it with bcache encrypted btrfs FS.
It didn't lunch. Rip me, I still using my boot windows since i don't have time to deal with it.

Based and redpilled. Our lord and savior Luke SMith is using Void too.

True.
But also:
>No wine-staging
>No wine64 (I need it for STATA)
>No forums
>Some retarded restraints in xbps-src.

That said, still the best general use distro out there

>anecdotal evidence
They're probably only faster because they do much less. My old Gentoo system with systemd booted in 12 seconds, 10 of which were spent in the UEFI because it's slow as shit. I would agree that apt is trash. I use dnf, which is admittedly slow to sync metadata, but rpm package installs are very fast. Additionally Void's package format likely doesn't allow for the flexibility that rpm does (virtual packages, depending on .so files directly, packages marking others as obsolete).

I just installed nmtui and it 'just works'

Install Gentoo.

ahahahaha

This.

Unironically wish I'd chosen Void over Arch but I'm too invested in my current setup to change.

Ubuntu fag here, how hard is the installation of Void?

Why should I use this over Solus?

Solus has better boot time. Slow boot time gives u a better "Linux" feel.

You shouldn't, Void is a meme

looks neat, but lack of packages next to the AUR
arch proved to me that i don't need to make things myself the moment i run into something less popular, and it's spoiled me

things i've noticed so far;
no palemoon
has wine.. but only 32bit for some reason
samba is 3.6, which is seriously old at this point
hardly any vapoursynth plugins

Hardware n software are diff things

Forum is bloat.
>UEFI
>slow as shit
It's faster than BIOS by design. Are you booting off a NVME drive?

Retarded devs don't want any more browsers. I asked about ungoogled-chromium and they were extremely anal about it.
Maybe we should just do a Jow Forums overlay

I know UEFI should be fast, and it is on my other machine. It just so happens that on the one I was talking about it takes a seemingly long time. It is an NVMe drive.

well big browsers like palemoon are pretty intensive to compile, though it's not like there's new versions every day
i'd be happy to compile it myself, but i think if i switched to Void, i would need to spend some time writing packages

Does the other machine boot from a SATA drive? If so, you found your answer.
You could also try gummiboot. It's in the repos and supposedly boots a bit faster due to being less bloated, but it bitches about my boot partition not being in vfat (despite it being in vfat)

>intensive to compile
>2hrs
>divided by thousands of users
Void dev detected.
For me it's the same, I'd love to compile ungoogled myself, but packaging a browser is a huge pain.

i should have added 'relatively intensive'
i ran gentoo for a year some time ago, and firefox was right up there as far as compile time goes
also i mean that in a "i can only think of this" way, i can't imagine anyone would turn away a browser just because they simply have "enough browsers"

>best package manager
user..

it has a installer, it's easy. just remember that, if you download an iso with a desktop environment, you'll have to make sure during the installation that the source of the instalation is set to local (so that it copies the locally installed andalready preconfigured d.e.).

if your source is set to network or yoy dowbloaded a iso without de, you may install xorg and your window manager of choice post installation or roll along with the terminal screen if you're into that.

Is regular Chromium in the repos?

I wouldn't recommend it though.

>desktop thread distro
okay, user

Attached: smug4.jpg (419x481, 25K)

Why do you need that shit, Firefox is better in any way.

Abandonware

Imagine how braindead you have to be to support that claim in 2019.

Firefox shits over Chrome/Chromium so hard.

Yeah, having no about:config page sure shits hard. Enjoy your browser developed by trans "folk".

Cool, tnx. Will it be easy to set up wireless in the installer?

Can confirm. Old FF was junk but new Quantum is way better than Chrome, it uses less RAM.

>trans "folk".
at least they've finally come to terms with the fact they aren't people

>having no about:config page
Wut?

you need to install something like wifish to use wifi, but it works pretty well afterwards.

>best package manager
Is voidt using nix?

But I like being able to use systemctl. Idk why not having the standard init would be a feature.

>best package manager
both pacman and portage are better than xbps

i like playing with my dick, idk why wearing pants in public would be a feature

OP btfod forever.
and
/thread

Nis is available in the repos and even officially supported.
Although I never understood the nix meme. From what I understand though, it's a lot of configuration work, and their packages aren't that up-to-date. Why not just use xbps?

Arch is the real PonyOS.
aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0&SeB=nd&K=pony&outdated=&SB=n&SO=a&PP=50&do_Search=Go

what can pacman do that xbps can't?

how does this compare to slackware?

then why does only chromium support security features such as unveil?

not them, and i don't even use FF, but what is that? (looking up "chromium unveil" doesn't really work)

>Mongodb broken for years
>Still doesn't support mongo compression
Aids distro

break xorg

It should be possible but i didn't have luck with my laptop's wireless card... i've been teying void for a few days and i had trouble setting up wifi until i tried this:
wiki.voidlinux.org/Network_Configuration#Wireless_.28Connman.29

Installed connman && connman-gtk, which worked just fine with a usb antenna i found.
There are other alternatives in the wiki, but this one worked great for me, YMMV.

I should note that i installed void without any desktop environment; maybe you don't need to install any of these if your d.e. of choice can already take care of that...

make good dependency trees for per-compiled packages

>A bunch of stuff uses OpenJDK 8. That's not on the repos.
Are you retarded?
