Why do many Linux users seem to distro hop all the time and never find a distro they're happy with?

literally install gentoo and bee done with it.

>and bee done with it.

The correct answer

I want to fuck that furry and force it to install gentoo.

Cuz shitty ass kernel this is why

They never want to settle on one distro. They just want to install and configure things for the sake of installing things.

Gentoo is not the last stop. I'm currently moving from Gentoo after a decade of using it.

Unironically retarded

A decade is a pretty good run. What's causing you to move?

I've been happy with Deepin for a year. Before that, Linux Mint for three years.

Pic related. I realised that I have been building my own crippled version of it on top of Gentoo for the last 5 years or so.

cuz they haven't tried void yet.

Package count IMO makes running nix or guix on top of gentoo more interesting than standalone.

how you know?
you the owner of all this scam backdored distros?

because the distros that are interesting/customizable are lacking in features and/or convenience unless you put an insane amount of work in, and the distros that are on feature-parity with any other modern OS are walled gardens and very hard to customize, defeating almost the entire purpose of Linux in the first place.

nice

Confirmation bias. Not that many distro hop.

Only by idiot "1h of reading is insane!" standards which mean you're best off on unrooted Android.

Else, Gentoo or other distros ought to work fine.

I'm investigating different options right now. Of course, most of the machines will stay on Gentoo, because it "just werks". But I want to run GuixSD in all its glory on my working laptop for the better immersion. And all the neat features discovered will go to production.

Linux users are incel manchildren who have nothing to do with their time so they spend it configuring their OS as they have run out of anime and games to play.

Otherwise you could look into the building and packaging process of the "walled garden" distros and either roll your own repo or go further and roll your own distro that picks up all the convenient full-featured stuff you don't wanna change anyway but allows for deep customization of the parts you do care about.
t. ex-Gentoo user

same

I'm looking into trying it out right now. I know it has something equivalent to USE flags, but can you use that functionality for most packages on your system without writing 500 lines of code?

Not the direct equivalent, but you can just inherit every package you need to do some changes on. Something like that:
(loop-over (TARGET-PACKAGES)
(package
(inherit TARGET)
(changes-here... including patches, build options, etc.))

But I use Gentoo and have a full time professional software engineer job.

You have no life is the point, your job is irrelevant to that.

But I spent the weekend with my friend in person. We drank beer and chatted about stuff.

cope

I started using Arch in 2012 and stuck with it.

>many Linux users
it's just Jow Forums NEETs that distro hop. everyone else more or less has a distro that they just deal with.

2 years SuSE
1 years Mandrake
5 years Gentoo
1 week Arch Linux
1 year Gentoo
7 years Debian

Why'd you switch to Debian/Devuan? Got tired of configuring Gentoo?

Tired of compiling everything, no more ricing and customization became less necessary over time
I rarely even change the wallpaper nowadays

But I proved you wrong, user.

>hanging out with my loser friend means I have a life

yeah that's a no from me

You're right. That's not a life, just mere imitation. Unlike him, I spent the last weekend with your mother. She was so ugly I threw up on her fat folds couple of times. That will be a thing to remember on my last days.

And what did you do this weekend user?

they are to lazy/dumb to reconfigure the OS defaults to their liking
>nothing to do with their time so they spend it configuring their OS
this is the exact opposite of distro hopping

But I've found a distro I'm happy with

Attached: arch_aqua.png (2335x2335, 402K)

Why are furries massive cancer and why must they never be allowed to yiff outside of hell?

Because they were too lazy to install Gentoo. It's not hard, just tedious.
Though they would have been better off installing MacOS instead, which is the best desktop OS there is.

Using a manjaro installation on a T420 since 2014 as a daily driver and I don't really feel the need to distro hop. Everything works and I am happy with it.

I used to distro hop years ago but just settled with Debian for good. Debian with xfce and some anime wallpaper and some dark theme to not kill my eyes, that's my "ricing" these days.

2008 ubuntu
then unity came and I dumped it
2010 Mint xfce, still use it

>do not get on this ladder! no reasonable monkeys get on this ladder!

Wait a minute, that duck is from MLP! I'm informing barneyfag about this.

>Why do people enjoy doing things that I dont t. post

I'm happy with Ubuntu minimal i3 with the latest custom kernel

Tried Arch, Manjaro, Gentoo, had to solve too many issues...

KILL YOURSELF JUSTPASSINGTHROUGH (ban-evading Argentinian (Barneyfag)).
I'M NOT EVEN JOKING, I WANT TO SMASH YOUR FUCKING HEAD RIGHT OPEN SO THAT NOTHING REMAINS OF IT AND I DON"T HAVE TO LIVE WITH YOUR EXISTENCE, YOU WASTE OF HUMAN FLESH. IF I KILLED YOU TOMORROW, THEN THAT WOULD BE ALL THAT WOULD SATISFY ME BEFORE MY EVENTUAL DEATH. NOTHING I WANT TO SEE MORE THAN ME CRUSHING YOUR FUCKING SKULL, TEARING YOUR FUCKING EYES, BEATING YOU UNTIL YOU'RE A LIFELESS FUCKING CARCASS, AND THEN GUTTING, DISMEMBERING AND GRINDING YOU UP UNTIL I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THE WORLD IS FREED FROM YOUR EVIL, YOU FUCKING WASTE OF LIFE, YOU FUCKING DEGENERATE SUBHUMAN, COLLECTIVE OF THE WORST FUCKING SCUM ON THE PLANET

When I was distro hopping I just wanted to see what the out of the box and post installation experience was like for each distro. Now I just use what works, which for the last 6 years happens to be Arch.

imposter

I've been posting pony porn in random boards.

Meant for

different distros have different appeals and pros/cons
i was kind of distro hopping as well but that was because i was trying to find one that doesnt annoy me, im staying with solus now

YOUR LIFE JUST NEEDS TO END, JUSTPASSINGTHROUGH, JUST DIE IN FUCKING PAIN

I've used Arch for 5 years. Installed debian for a month but then switched back when I saw apt automatically enabling systemd services after installing packages.

>switching distro for something you can easily configure

>Why do many Linux users seem to distro hop all the time and never find a distro they're happy with?
how you know?
you the owner of all this scam backdoored distros?

I've been using Xubuntu for laptops, Ubuntu Server for servers for years.

>install arch with architect
>wow this blows windows out of the water i'm glad I fell for this meme
>but I wish I could install packages from othe-
>wow bedrock is great i'm glad someone on Jow Forums mentioned it

>switching to something that fits me better is bad
alright

im constantly switching between debian and arch and i cant decide whats better

>not being a furry

Who?

I just use Debian / Ubuntu. Though I might switch full time to Debian if Ubuntu switches to snap for it's default package manager. My only issue is that a lot of Debians packages are somewhat deprecated / outdated

Bearded jewish dude who hates pork and trannies.

Someone who doesn't exist and yet stupid non-intellectualy still can't see that.

Antergos werks fine on my machine, been using it for at least a year now.

A supreme being that triggers faggots just by being mentioned in a thread.

I like getting out of my comfort zone once in a while. Learning the ins and outs of different package managers and shit.
Right now I'm on sabayon, doing all the shit they recommend you don't do, but provide howtos for, mixing packages from portage and entropy... I got emerge, equo, layman, enman, eix... all the while knowing I could fuck shit up completely at any time.
I'm living on the edge and I've never felt more alive.
If you think frankendebians are fun, you haven't walked on the wild side, motherfuckers.

I've been on sid for years, if you want bleeding edge you can have it. It won't blow up in your face any more than other fast moving distros. Install apt-listbugs, don't be a retard and you're good.

Your post is making me physically ill. Good job.

based

Your debilitating fear of dizzying heights.
I'm living the cure.

As far as refugees from Windows or macOS go, I'm guessing it's the result of having so many options compared to effectively just one for each of the other two - unless you want something that isn't up to date. It's new territory, and they don't realize that it's a bad idea to jump distros unless you encounter a legitimate problem that warrants switching. Also

>tfw you'll never be that cute

just dont use debian stable

put debian on your home server and arch on your desktop/laptop

I've distro hopped when everyone was hyping some hot new thing up, but honestly i always ended up going back to Ubuntu.
