How does the 4channel post number algorithm work?

how does the 4channel post number algorithm work?

A thread died for this.

You are the 69933592nd post on this board, that's how it works retard.

The absolute state of Jow Forums

Doesn't the post number skip ones with dubs at the end?

it's incremental, board-wide

Last post + 1

I think the post number increases one at a time per each post happening across all of the vast and great Jow Forums.

It does on /v/ and /vg/, might be some other boards too that I don't remember.

It's per board

it works like these dubs

...

Why those are some nice ones.

the real question is how are images numbered?
I see them counting up from
1200000000000 (2010)
to
1500000000000 today
Did it start with 1000000000000?

Post your oldest unrenamed pictures oldfags.

its unix timestamp, which means if you kept the original filename you can figure out when the image was uploaded

Very nice

nigger are you telling me two images can have the same number if they are uploaded at the same moment??

based dubs

not that guy but it’s possible that 2 images were saved at the same time. iirc Jow Forums looks at filenames to determine if a duplicate exists in a board (although i think they changed that to only be per thread). So yes, if 2 people saved a picture at the same second and then posted it onto here then there can be 2 identical names

time++
downloaded not uploaded. you can download file with its original name with 4chanx btw

It's unix time stamp plus 3 more digits added on the end so multiple images can be uploaded within the same second.
This post for instance has the image filename of 1551044617344, the unix time right now 3 minutes later is 1551044818 which is a 10 digit number, the unix time at the time was posted was 1551044617 and then the digits 344 were added to identify that specific image uploaded at that time.

Then it was probably a shit thread

I'm more interested in how cross thread linking works. Like, how does it figure out in what thread the link is.

now
how do we create a crypto out of this algorithm?

based

I see, do you think 344 means there where at least 344 images uploaded in that second? I can't believe it.

If this is true, then the number has to be set in place with the first download. is 1551044617344 for everybody it seems.

The last 3 digits may be the millisecond it was posted.

The image filename is assined when its uploaded, not when it's downloaded. Filenames are per board, and there is no way 344 images on Jow Forums were uploaded that second, Jow Forums didn't even get 100 posts that second. The last 3 digits are either random or is right.
