Decentralized imageboard

in theory, could an actual decentralized imageboard exist? how would you solve the problem of assigning continuous numeric post ids if there's no central authority managing the sequence?

Where would the data be hosted? Make every user download an ever-growing blockchain of posts / images? It's possible but the size of the chain would be huge.

Archive are for redditfags. Once a thread time is up, it's up

The data would be on the blockchain, you dumbfuck. That's what they are made for

i'm not sure whether a blockchain would work well in a scenario like this, i mean compare bitcoin, where a block is mined roughly every 10 minutes, vs. an imageboard with hundreds of posts a minute (or more for huge boards)
that would be a nightmare to synchronize all that shit efficiently

The computer power neede to mine is much greater though

yeah its called freech

yeah its callwd aether

You realize imageboards have a limited amount of pages and old posts die, right?

There were a bunch of them, very few people posted.

Well that's a shame

p2p database, the amount of your storage that is used is determined by how much your usage is of the website

You will just have to accept that some posts can get lost. Simply retransmit.

users choose what they see on block chain.

fuck digits its all gone to kek anyways.

freenet is already like this
it is zero guarantee though, if noone needs some data it will probably eventually get deleted

Yes. While zeronet is botnet, zeroib is a real decentralized imageboard. nntp-overchan is a federated imageboard, that, with distributed file distribution such as ipfs, would be ideal in my opinion (i.e. everyone has every file but you can choose any arbitrary node, including yourself, to tell you which posts are real (and thus which posts to fetch the contents of) and which are not).

Yes, and they do.

nntpchan and overchan are the same thing (because you don't actually mean the one chan that's just a collection of other chans since that's still centralized). nntpchan is centralized but federated.
werchan is centralized.
zerochan is true but botnet.

We get most of what we'd get under that system already, just a few ads and no CP, desu I dont mind.

centralized = one server gets to see your IP and your post
decentralized = your IP and post are publicaly available

is that really what you want?

ips aren't such a huge secret, other than provide a location what are you gonna do when the other person is behind NAT?

Nothing wrong with giving random people your IP, especially in a world where hiding your IP is trivial (see: vpn, tor, and various peering technologies).

I think it would have to work as a system of users subscribing to mods in some way, so that individuals can choose who they want to filter their content. That way you have the freedom to tell a particularly toasty hotpocket to shaft themselves, but also don't have to worry about the FBI posting child porn on the thing and having it shut down.
