I generally think the same. I thought it's standard.

Hmm..

I do 6 = 4+2 ; 8 + 2 = 10 + 4 = 14

For me its
6=2+4
8=-2+10

Ergo
6+8=10+4

t. Asian

No. Normal people do these

based

Nothing happens because dyscalculia

6+8
8+2+4

Why not just do 6+8?

You are both fucking retarded.

The only correct response is breaking it up into 10's.

>8 + 6
>8 + 2 + 4
>10 + 4
>14

>UX
Why does this job exist

Are all brainlets? I just do 6+8 is 14. Is this an age thing? I'm an oldfag.

6 + 6 = 12
12 + 2 = 14

>what are calculators for?
fucking nigger trannie retards cant even use simple technology.

Attached: d90.png (644x800, 15K)

I do 10 + 4

That's brute force man can only get you that far.

> 8 = 7 - 1
I am literally seething that this dumb whore gets paid anything.

Can you imagine how horrible youtube would be if they weren't constantly making it slower and less convenient?

>I'm an oldfag.
No you are not, newfag.

Only based answer, I do all calculations in this way.

1000 + 100 + 10 + 1 for example.

Based base 12 is the foundation of Western Civilization.

I do this as well

I do 6*2 + 2
probably because I was made to cram up tables as a child.
I always add numbers this way.
7 + 8?
7*2 + 1 !

So in high school I competed in UIL Science contests which consisted of a test containing 20 questions each in sections of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. There were also "Number Sense" competitions that was basically a mental math test (you had a lot of math problems ranging from fairly simple to quite complex and had to solve them only in your head, no calculator or scratch paper was allowed). Now that I'm in my 30's and I work as an insurance adjuster I wish I had been on the number sense team instead of the science team because I never use any of the shit that I learned / studied for the science tests but being adept at mental math would come in handy literally every day.

Does anyone know of some good resources for learning mental math techniques?

6 = sex
8 = 8yo

sex + 8yo = 14 years in jail

Attached: 1549936982507.jpg (250x246, 5K)

I do
8+2 = 10
10+4 = 14

>literally turning yourself into a human calculator
computers exist idiot, use them

>doing anything but 6-2 carry the 1
you people are retarded

Do
Sub values to make a nice solid number like 10 or 100 or 200, then just add the remainder to it.

Attached: 1542126032578.png (265x340, 145K)

But why? Isn't it more logical to bring it to an equality and then just double?

I would've had one of the best Number Sense teachers as well, he came in 2nd place 3 years in a row at the state level when he was in high school, right behind the same Asian kid who won 1st place at state those 3 years. Both he and the Asian kid would make perfect scores on the test but the Asian kid always finished and turned his test in a few minutes earlier so he was given the win.

I do 8+6=14

In all seriousness, this is why Common Core is important. Get people using the right method.

>Isn't it more logical to bring it to an equality and then just double?

Attached: 1548244322616.png (586x557, 66K)

When I'm standing on a steep roof trying to figure the number of square feet on various roof faces whose shapes are triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids it would be nice to do that shit in my head instead of needing to switch back and forth between my notepad and calculator every couple of minutes.

I do this
> t.LA RAZA

Nice image of you but post selfies on /b/.

Nobody does that shit in their head.

What the shit.
I've always just imagined the numbers being written one below the other and then added them.
Example: 36 + 15
36
15
6+5 is 11, 1 remains, carry the 1
3+1+1=5
so 51
That way you only need to know addition from 0-9 and can basically add or substract any fucking number in your head.

Not a bad way actually

I do 6 + 8 = 6 + 4 + 4 (= 10 + 4) = 14

I always search for a number dividable by 10. If there are none I create one from the closest number. In this case I think of 8 as 10. 10+6=16, take away the 2 I added to the 8 and you get 14

No, you are just never tried to calculate in you're head in the shortest time.

I'm still a retard and I count using my fingers, I add by tapping my fingers to my inner palm and double tap for digits in the 10's.

Attached: OM9Zt8t.jpg (500x280, 35K)

So did you realize since then that we are talking about one digits here? Your method is perfectly fine for multiple digits but the topic is the 0-9 addition.

kys
old method is slow and cumbersome but CC is just full fucking retard

Attached: 1550109678035.png (416x324, 186K)

Based double number, my fren

Kinda figured everyone was just using the example from OP, but didn't expect people to actually discuss methods to do something you shouldn't have to think about.
Am I missing something here - what purpose does that serve?

6+6 = 12
12 + 2 = 14

I know, I was just saying that it would be nice to not have to dig around for my calculator so often if I could become very adept at mental math. Every time you pull something out of a pocket / tool belt pouch you risk something getting dropped or falling out which then rolls all the way off the damn roof requiring you to climb back down to retrieve it at some point.

It's an invention of contrarian Britbongs because they had trauma dividing by 3. Rome and Greece both used base 10.

It's unfathomable how every update to comment threads invariably made them worse, with some updates even breaking previously correlated reply chains.

To make the one digit addition faster. You can still use it for bigger numbers.

Did you really think you were going to convince someone how old they were?

Of course. The eternal anglo strikes again.

Base 12 is cancer
Base 60 or GTFO

>Not using base pi
GTFO of my board

>32 - 12
>30 - 10
>20
Old method and new common core are both shit.

Attached: 1529935879570.jpg (664x719, 47K)

>to make the one digit addition faster
But why - by the time a person is 8 or so, they should be able to know that without thinking about it. Any extra steps don't make it faster.
Or are we talking about grade schoolers here? Fuck I'm actually confused by this thread.

.....what the fuck?

4 + 2 = 6

Therefore:
8 + 2 = 10
10 + 4 = 14

Why the hell would you subtract anything, that's just stupid and counterproductive.

I legitimately haven't computed anything more complex than single digit addition in probably over 10 years, because I always have a calculator on me anyway and I trust it to be accurate 100% of the time. I could probably still do anything on paper, but not likely in my head.
Like I have no problem with forming or resolving equations, I just don't ever have a reason to compute them in my mind.

>6+8
>=4+2+8
>=4+10
>=14
best way, anyone who doesn't do this is a mega brainlet

>6+8
6x2 + 2

Werks fine for small numbers.

>532 + 239

>500 + 200
>30+30
>9+2
>700 + 60 + 11
>771

Kill yourself, newfag.

I use the cosine law

wtf is this suppose to mean?

This explains their code

>I always have a calculator on me anyway and I trust it to be accurate 100% of the time

>not converting to binary, doing binary, and converting back to base-10

jesus fucking christ I thought Jow Forums complaining about basic math was a meme but it's clear all of you dumb niggers failed calc and likely can't get the most basic grasp of number theory

8 = 1*(2^3), that one is simple enough
6 = 1*(2^2) + 1*(2^1), also not hard to figure out
1000 + 110 = 1110
1110 = 1*(2^3) + 1*(2^2) + 1*(2^1) + 0
or, if you have the slightest hint of pattern recognition,
10000 - 10 = 1110 -> 1*(2^4) - 1*(2^1) = 1*(2^3) + 1*(2^2) + 1*(2^1) + 0, our previous result.

SO, if you're smart enough to follow up to this point, 1*(2^4) = 16, 1*(2^1) = 2, 16-2 = 14.

there you fucking go, now go take a math class.

The stupidity of "devs" and the faggots in here never ceases to amaze me.
I don't want the internet or Jow Forums to ever change. You bring light to an otherwise very dull working day.

Attached: g.jpg (474x372, 30K)

when I do 6+8 My way of thinking is that
6 is 6 and if I add 8 to six it equals 14

Let's try something more difficult
if I add 37 to 91. First of all i add
1+7 = 8
I put that in a column on the right
I now add 9 to 3, which I know equals 12
I put that number on the left of the 8
Thusly:
128
I then know the answer to be 128

Or i do
10+6=16
16-2=14

>Not memorizing the combination of single digit sums
The absolute state of education worldwide

this is also how I do it

The risk of inaccuracy is low enough for me to be comfortable in the majority of cases, in the near non-existent cases where accuracy is important and somehow not relevant to software already, simply using more than 1 to check the answer is easy enough.

>phone
>offline
>have built in calculator
>ivy
>online
>Google
>Wolfram alpha

>desktop
>800 different compilers and repls

I unironically support that over common core.

6+8 = 4+10 = 14

i do 6+6+2
but only because the result 6+6 is faster in my brain from those little math poems
if i knew 8+8 faster then id do that and -2
and by faster or slower we'r talking msecs

Egyptians and Babylonians basically did that.

Large numbers i go,
3+3=6
9+2=11
5+2=7
60+11=71
771

I do 6+8 because I know it's 14

It happens in a fraction of a second. It's just how we actually think it through.

8 is two fours

6 + 4 is 10 + 4 is 14

I literally just look at it and know it's 14, similarly with most low number calculations
It's the same thing when you look at a few objects, and you know there is three of them, just by looking and not actively counting then

How I would do this is to put up
6 fingers in front of me I then count
4 more fingers, plus I count my
cock and both balls thats another 3
and then I add done toe
So then I add up
6+4 fingers, thats ummm er , oh ummm ah ummm oh 10 fingers
1 cock thats 11
2 balls thats 13
one toe - hey the answer is 14

I’m with you, I honestly can’t believe there are people who don’t just have all the single digit number sums memorized. I’m guessing these brainlets also have some similarly convoluted method to calculate the product of two single digit numbers rather than just, you know, memorizing them. Tricks are fine if you’re talking about two digit numbers and larger, but for single digit numbers? Christ.

i do 6 + 4 = 10 and then add the remaining 4 from the 8

two sets of dubs plus devil trips - this is the way

Pretend it's not a sum you have committed to memory or i
Intuitively know.

I go
2*8 =16
8 - 2 = 6
16 - 2 = 14

But I suck at math.

Attached: 395923537179215.jpg (280x400, 18K)

>dad would beat me 8 times a day
>mom would only beat me 6 times a day
>age 14

that's how I personally remember

This is how I do it.

Maths were always kind of hard for me so I do it very straight forward and just count it.
>8(0)
>9(1)
>10(2)
>11(3)
>12(4)
>13(5)
>14(6)
If you want to get specific I visualize the sum I add onto as an image in my mind and my inside voice counts what I need to add.
I've started being able to do it pretty quickly and accurately but it still FEELS slow, and being an absolute ADD child means my concentration can be broken pretty easily when I do it.

ok i actually just remember the small ones

I've committed to memory any sum between 2 numbers between 1-9. With bigger numbers I just go like

I replace 6 by 8
8 * 2 = 16
6 - 8 = -2
16 + (-2) = 14

Dad beats 8 times a day, but only on weekdays. Mom beats only 6 times a day, but everyday.
