Why does the phone industry want people to stop using 3.5mm jack headphones?

sells expensive wireless peripherals, makes designing hardware easier

To sell adapters and Bluetooth headphones.

Is there anything the consumers can do to defend againt this practice?

Apple wanted to do it so that companies who make the headphones have to pay liscencing fees to do so, which in turn boosts the price on the consumer.

Don't buy phones that exclude it, and as a rule of thumb, don't buy apple. They're like the EA of tech.

you can roll around, cry a little, and then convince yourself that you like getting fucked

Bluetooth has gotten pretty good recently.

only buy phones with headphone jacks. in theory developers will see the sales and realize they would offset the higher costs of developing a headphone jack with higher sales. but the reality is that most consumers will still buy the same main brands and they are all slowly dropping the jack.

the only power consumers have is voting with sales, but people are just grumbling and still buying the phones. in the end this means it will never change. complaining does essentially nothing.

So this is the power of "The Free Market"

Yep. In reality all they'll see is "Oh, Apple is doing this? We should do that too!". Not to mention the millenials in companies who will be like "like OMG 3.5 jacks are soooo 2000s!".
You're so innocent, user. I used to be an ancap too.

Headphone jacks can't be waterproof

still a million times better than every alternative

So they can sell the DAC separately in the form of an adapter. It's quick money for them and while it's "fashionable" the consumer will happily buy that too.

no

So they have to buy new headphones (apple, for example, fused with beats), or so the marketing departments get more monies via adapter sales.

because wireless it the new tech they want to push. the 3.5mm takes too much space and doesn't serve a purpose with wireless tech already out. there are the fringe and niche users still but the 3.5mm is dying and it's only a matter of time.

it's like a lessened version of the physical keyboard
it's something that's nice to have but ultimately it'll be sacrificed to streamline the device because alternatives exist that make the phone better overall

Honestly wireless headphones are very convenient, the lack of a cable is more liberating than you would think. Shame that the audio quality just isn't as good.

Free Market works better than anything else, but it's not perfect as many retards believe it is.
One very important assumption of free market theory is that consumers behave rationally, but we know that to not be true.

>One very important assumption of free market theory is that consumers behave rationally, but we know that to not be true.
which is why this assumption is only in beginner economics theories taught in early undergrad and high school lol, not anything actually being used

yes, but muh free market shills don't realize that.

how to spot the econ101 c-grade burger
all talking points and no thought

Don't buy anything without a 3.5mm jack, except for a magnum chambered bolt action rifle with some glass and ammo for it.

So you can't make capitalism work without genocide?

I mean, you probably can, but why? We could use some genocide either way.

Ends the oldest trick in the DRM-defeating book, the analog hole

Why is Tenshi looking at her penis like that?

This.

It's leaking for some reason and she's worried.

Wheew, and I thought americans knew the definition of free market

Cute 天子(てんこ)

Apple did it to make more money
>sell proprietary headphones
>sell dongles

As for the others, who knows.
