CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on some MSI mobos) >R3 2200G - Recommended minimum gaming >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >i7-9700k - Good for gaming >R7 2700/X - Best high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM: >Always choose at least a two stick kit; 2x 8GB is recommended >CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000CL15 or 3400CL16 is ideal >All AMD chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: >Used cards can be had for a steal; inquire about warranty 1080p >GTX 1060 6gb, RX 570, RX 580 for older or less demanding titles >RTX 2060/GTX 1660ti High framerate 1080p gaming, beware of only 6gb of vram for longevity 1440p >RTX 2060/GTX 1660ti Highish (60-100) framerate 1440p gaming, especially beware of only 6gb of vram at this resolution >RTX 2080 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerate and you have a CPU and monitor to match 2160p (4k) >RTX 2080 >RTX 2080 Ti is better, but very expensive
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >A 256GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >Bottleneck checkers are worthless >rentry.co/pcbg-more
here Any recommendations for a mini-itx case? I'm looking for something very compact. here's the build i'm planning on going with (may swap the rtx2060 for a 1660 if it makes sense)
Whats a good 1440p 60hz freesync/gsync 27inch monitor? Can i get away with a non sync, would i be missing out that much without it? Whats the scaling like, i know 4k is pretty shit for it but how is 1440p
Heard to many bad things about the high ends, for close to 1k aud i want them too just work, only one im interested in is lgs ultra gear at the end of the year which isnt much good to me now, so its a basic 1440p that i just stick with or a basic 1080p that i use for a year and then sell Besides for what the high end models are asking i could get a 55 inch 4k tv, 144hz just cant compete and shouldnt try so why the retarded pricing for a pissy little 27? Im an immersion gamer not a twitch shooter if that makes any difference to 144hz vs 60hz Think path of exile, skyrim, single player story driven shooters
I got mine on sale for $400 and it’s a fantastic monitor

>16gb ram >zotac am i getting memed?
John Ross
Look up sold listings on Ebay
Jeremiah Walker
well your original build hat a single dimm and that's a terrible idea. Also yes, 16 gb is basically a must in 2019 (NOT for vram). Zotac makes the smalles and often cheapest GPUs which is why I chose that card but really you can go with EVGA or whatever your prefer. The dual fan 2060 models aren't all that different really.
Jacob Evans
Looks good thanks user
Justin Carter
Hmm, I see thanks, some questions:
>single dimm and that's a terrible idea how bad could it be? >16 gb is basically a must in 2019 games? >Zotac makes the smalles and often cheapest GPU Yes, these are good aspects, just never heard of this manufacturer/opposed to evga/msi and so on
general issue: will all the above stuff really fit in those two cases in the recommended builds? Is there any measurements i should look at to make sure they will?
William Stewart
No worries, it’s a 144hz screen too and believe me it’s smooth as buttter. It’s good for twitchy shooters too but it’s really nice in cinematic games. I’ve got mine paired with a 1080ti and honestly I love it
Henry Kelly
Nice, im pairing it with a 2070 or 2080, not sure which one yet, would have gone 2060 and called it a day but that 6gb ram stopped me buying it
Isaiah Russell
Yes 16 gb is good for gaming, even though it's not mandatory yet. But add windows, chrome, the game and some others together and you'll have a hard time going under 8gb in 2019.
>any measurements well the case manufacturers give a maximum length for each case and I'd make sure that the card isn't too tall (as in protruding past the pcie i/o covers) and more imprtantly not too thick. Sometimes cards are labelled dual slot when in reality the beefy cooler makes it a 2.5 slot card which in the case of the FT03 can quickly choke the fans. Blower cards would actually be totally fine in either of these cases provided they aren't too long. You can also look for other cases, the LianLi TU100 (super short GPU needed), Ncase M1, Cougar QBX, Dan A4 and Thermaltake V1 (really inexpensive) are amongst the most popular ones.
Nolan Robinson
Single channel ram is literally half the speed of dual channel. It will tank your CPU performance. And yes 16gb ram for games now, some are unplayable with 8 plus multitasking. I just came from 8gb ddr3 1866 to 16gb ddr4 3200. 8gb was unuseable in battlefield 1 and Forza horizon and most likely future titles.
Gabriel Carter
Is the Cougar brand chinese? I don't like buying shit from chinese companies. I've tried finding where they're from but I found nothing, seems suspect. Their website cougargaming.com/
Vega 56 undervolted is same speed as 64/2060 if you want that performance if you can find a decent AIB one cheap. Otherwise just pony up for the 2080 the 2070 isn't worth it imo.
Adrian Martin
In that case i might as well go for the 2080 duke, going to have this build for atleast 5 years unless gpus start leaping forward in performance again, which i doubt will happen
Eli Perez
Nice. If you don’t mind second hand there’s a lot of good prices for 1080tis. Got mine for $740. Also if you go ’s route you can snag a 56 for around 400AUD
Julian Adams
>Single channel ram is literally half the speed of dual channel. It will tank your CPU performance. That's just a meme, user Dual channel does not really doubles shit
Logan Smith
Check benchmarks of single vs dual channel ram
Gavin Ortiz
Might look into that, the 2080 is supposed to be a 1080ti with some vram stripped out and rtx that nothing uses put in
Ryder Ramirez
What should I look for in a used GPU? The idea of buying a high end GPU used makes me nervous
I've got the gsync version, so given that this is the freesync and might be different I may be talking out my urethra, but for a tn panel the screen is good as hell. Still got color banding so if that triggers you I'd avoid it. On top of that, the 1ms mode ghosts like a mad cunt so I avoid using it and stick with 5ms, mostly. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.
Cooper Evans
Any other one you'd recommend? I mostly play Siege but I'm not a huge pro or anything I mostly just give a shit about resolution, size, and possible the IPS factor. Anything is better than my current monitor though I'm sure. Hoping to drop less than 300$
Landon Rodriguez
I'm sure this single pic really isn't cherry picked and left without source for no reason. Care to comment on this video for me? youtube.com/watch?v=-k5wA7EFwpo
Bentley Stewart
Are Fractal (non-meshify) cases hotboxes? If so then they would seem not worth it even for the looks/noise
Jackson Rogers
Is it possible to that if I wanted 128 GB, I can just buy a single 1x16GB RAM stick 8 times instead of going for the 8x16GB one? Since its more cheaper.
Jaxson Rogers
How cold is too cold for my pc? I have it next to my open window and its 17F -8C outside
Jace Adams
Yea that’s ultimately why I got a 1080ti over the new gen. High end gpu secondhand market tends to be a lot more risk free than lower end because no one is going to buy a $1000 to mine on. Look for someone who knows what they’re talking about, and use common sense; if it’s too good to be true it probably is. If it comes with receipt and original packaging chances are this is someone who buys and sells the current top-end stuff, and so you can be pretty safe to assume they’ve looked after the item. Then again other Give always are >no photos of actual gpu >dust >rusting >no pictures of specs/benchmark
Robert Wood
Depends on the type. I have a Define S2 and removed the top metal panel (it separates from the dust filter) and saw global temps go down 13c with pretty much no noise increase (fans at max setting)
Ian Myers
You can but there’s no guarantee it’ll work That’s probably getting on the colder side of things as you preferably don’t want it going below 5c or there abouts
Jayden Clark
but wouldn't the ram stick be the same models and all? I would be saving up a lot if the RAM stick worked
Adrian Price
ASUS GTX 1080 Strix Edition $600.00 cad used, never used for mining or OC'd past factory clocks. Good idea or bad idea?
Logan Torres
Again you can do it, and chances are it’ll probably work fine. But there’s no guarantee
Josiah Mitchell
Which manufacture makes the best motherboards including the bios?
Anthony Powell
Are I/O shield dimensions universal between ATX, mATX, and ITX motherboards?
Evan Perry
Don't buy a lot of RAM unless you have a reason to use it.
Yes, it will be fine. Especially if they are the same brand and model. I have 4 Samsung ram sticks, 2 chink shit generic unbranded ram sticks, and 1 crucial ram stick, and one crucial brand ram stick. All are 16gb 2133MHz. My mobo is MSI X399 SLI Plus. If it works depends on the model of motherboard and if the sticks you buy all conform to mutually compatible DDR4 RAM standards. It can be uncertain though, especially if the seller does not specify the exact part numbers.
Jason Stewart
yeah, pretty much This is because you can use an ITX mobo in an ATX case and it will fit
Does this look reasonable, ok value, etc? Looks like it has all the packaging but no benchmarks. Also sort of wary that the seller only has Herbalife shake mixes under his reviews.
Blake Stewart
MSI hands down, especially BIOS
Juan Roberts
Anything above the dew point for your local climate and weather is fine. If you go to the right temp and pressure, then water will form on your mobo and pins and ruin the whole thing.
Nolan Ward
Amazon currently has a used Vega 56 (MSI Air Boost OC) listed from what seems to be a reputable seller at $259. Says it comes with an MSI 180 days end user warranty.
Ehhhh one it’s gigabyte which I tend to avoid. Secondly the fact they’ve straight copy/pasted into the listing gives of warning bells. I’d avoid this one personally
Daniel Walker
I’d go for it personally, MSI is a good brand.
David Jackson
If I buy 8 1x16GB RAM will they function as single channel or quad channel when they do work? Yes I'm trying out deep learning stuff with Cudnn, need these RAM
Julian Mitchell
You can find out of the multi-channel support is available for a particular ram stick by just looking up the part number online. If you buy random cheap sticks, expect some features not work correctly. Honestly though, a workstation is too small for most numerical analysis and statistical science tasks. I personally treat my system a prototyping machine before I push code to a compute cluster. (for your use case, 128gb is peanuts. you're not actually going to be doing serious machine learning with that.)
Joseph Brooks
I was considering define c, and wouldn’t want to remove panels
integrated circuits do not "wear out" like mechanical components do. They perform the same as day one as long as the cooling system is clean. Assuming the miners kept their racks even just kind of clean, a used card is definitely worth the discount.
Nathan Foster
its probably left over panels that a different manufacturer couldn't sell for a specific purpose. that's frequently how optics equipment gets discounted.
Jackson Cruz
what are the benefits of running a 2200g APU AND a dedicated graphics card. Do vega graphics on the APU work in conjunction with a dedicated GPU?
Eli Robinson
no it is absolutely not worth it unless you enjoy rainbow artifacts in your games and random blue screens. cards absolutely do ware out when running 24/7.
Jordan Nelson
So you think its legit?
Brandon Mitchell
My only comment is to never buy something without a money-back guarantee if it does not arrive as advertised. (Like filing through the amazon claims or ebay claims system.)
Luke Hughes
No not really. good miners underclock and volt there shit and keep their cards in extremely ventilated areas so they are pretty lightly used.
Adam Barnes
If this type of thing does happen, it is probably because the fan or cooling pump/pipes have a defect, not the graphics processing unit. This can certainly wear out with months of constant use. If one piece of the integrated circuit breaks, the whole thing is usually toasted at once.
Cameron Martinez
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming SC2 11GB GDDR5X iCX Technology (11G-P4-6593-KR). These were set up in two Zcash mining rigs. They were run for a couple months before prices crashed. They were always run cool. These are the best video cards out there for gaming or CAD programs. They are in perfect condition and I guarantee they work. They will be very securely bubble wrapped and packaged for shipping. They will be shipped with a riser attached to protect the PCI interface.
$560 Like, at least the guy is honest. Should I go for it?
Nicholas Clark
I would
Asher Reyes
I'm a brainlet, but not the same user, pleas answer

>mini itx Get whatever case matches the purse /fa/ recomended to you
Everything If you upgrade the gpu your CPU bottlenecked and vise versa If ya short on cash get ryzen system and gpu later
Hunter Sullivan
Re-asking from old thread, are ergotron arms likely to snap a wood veneer + particle board desktop like the Karlby, that’s bolted to a steel frame? Any additional measures I can take to protect the finish of my desk? Not sure I trust the little rubber feet on it
Some tasks are exclusively handled by the central processor, like managing your web browser for facebook games. Other tasks can be offloaded to a dedicated card, like playing fornite for pro gaming action. The benefit of buying a graphics card is to get high frame rates while meme-ing it up in fortnite or more 3d games.
Joseph Fisher
Looking to run modern titles at high settings 60fps. For example, bought AC Origins but chose to refund it since I was getting 35 fps on medium. Also it seems the 2gb vram is starting to become an issue.
Jackson Bennett
ah i see so theres no combination that happens only offloading my CGI hentai dragon dildo porn to whatever GPU it picks
Michael Robinson
then upgrade ur damn GPU if you want to play games like that. Otherwise 4 cor i5 and 8GB of ram is plenty
Have you used a 4 core 4 thread CPU in recent games? Shit hits 100% usage easily. t. Just upgraded from 2500k 4.8ghz
Nathan Davis
Graphics card but you can also pick up an i7 for your socket and another 2x 4GB DDR3 along with a better monitor
>i'm a retard who doesn't understand the concept of 'allocation' Hint: it's not synonymous with 'requires.'
>If you upgrade the gpu your CPU bottlenecked Definitely not, although his graphics card upgrade options are somewhat limited (maybe to a non-Ti 1660)
Not really, especially if he gets a graphics card with 6GB or more VRAM
Josiah White
Upgrade GPU first. CPU later. Upgrade RAM only if you think you will take it with you in your CPU upgrade down the line.
Carson Flores
Actually, programmers can specify if a bit of code runs on the GPU or not, or even if it runs on multiple cores of the CPU. Your 3d 4k VR dragon dildo hentai is made using 3d modeling software which specifically pushes certain tasks (like calculating the lighting and shading of cum drizzles) to the graphics card. Things like loading up a save game of your favorite interactive furry porn are usually handled by the central processor. Rendering the porn on scree would be a GPU task.
Justin Edwards
Which kind of build i need to make if i need to work with Lumion? Ryzen 2700X with RX 570 8GB or a used Quadro?
Gavin Williams
I have 15 browser tabs open, multiple videos, and steam all running. Why the fuck is your ram usage so high?
Christopher Young
>yiff porn I knew that was why my CPU was bottlenecking. I have tons of low quality yiff porn I like to play at the same time to set the mood. It must be demanding on the CPU to load all that at once
Bentley Turner
switching out from amd to nvidia gpu. should I use Display Driver Uninstaller or just uninstall the amd driver the normal way?
