There's actually little reason to have 6GB+ on mid range GPU right now.
Yeah, probably after generation or two 6GB will requite you to switch to "medium" resolution textures in moden vidya. But quite frankly the whole GPU will be quite outdated by then and it won't be the amount of VRAM that holds it back.
