Why is there a second CPU on my x230?

Attached: IMG_20190222_202417_043.jpg (1280x720, 221K)

T450 good options for college general shit? $400 budget.

From last bread:

Graphic designer here, sick of Macbooks, but also very wary of shit dim ThinkPad screens. What model of Thinkpad would I need to look to for good colour coverage and brightness? Am I basically stuck with shelling out for the max config of the X1 series?

Weight is an important factor, so I'm talking about the more recent models, infact the new ones if anything. Soldered on RAM is not a concern for my use, I have old ThinkPads for tinkering

How do I clean my Thinkpad?
Do I just use a duster or should I get some kind of cleaning solution?
And do I need to take off the keys? (Actually, mine has one of the newer keyboards so I don't even know if I can take off the keys.)

Def. It's light, has a nice keyboard, sturdy and good for just casual computing. I use it for uni.
You will need to get a 1920 x 1080 IPS display as the 1366x768 or whatever resolution is horrible.
Don't fall for the >no i7 meme an i5 will do you fine.

Southbridge, nigger.

Left to right:
- X230 i7, 8GB, coreboot w/ GRUB2 payload, me_cleaned.
- T510 i7, 4GB.
- X200 4GB, libreboot,
- T60 4GB (3GB usable), libreboot.

i can only answer first part, 4910mq will be a little faster but I wouldn't pay up a lot more for it, when it comes to undervolting haswell is really the first gen of intel ult and strong focus on power efficiency so it doesn't undervolt much, from internet sources expect maybe 50mv of uv, current kaby lake stuff can do 150mv on a good chip but of course your mileage will vary based on silicon lottery

thank you; although I hope I'll be satisfied with the speed of the 4712MQ, coming from a 4770K..

If I got a T430 can I replace keyboard with a t420 to get the good keyboard but a faster machine?

Attached: DwHRTJzXgAAfXw1.jpg (320x324, 15K)

Yes

Is X230 waterproof?

Yes, you can relpace the keyboard on the t430 with the t420 keyboard, but I would first recommend learning english.

It's currently running windows xp

How fugged is my battery in my T450. This Is battery 1 going from 42% to 9% in 10minutes.

From last thread:
The fan in my X201t died, how do I make sure I get the right replacement? The fan has a couple different strings of letters/numbers and googling each one yields different results.

Why get one with a heatsink? Is there not a risk of the fan+heatsink assembly being the wrong size as opposed to just the fan being the wrong size?

Buying a chink battery. Yes or no!?!

Is T61 corebootable?

I bought a chink battery for my t430 and it lasts about 2 hours and while it's waaaay lesser than what it was advertised, it was cheap and it's still better than no battery.

will any of them be worth buying?

Attached: fugokrlwcsh21.png (5499x5188, 1.3M)

No. Nu thinkpads are only worth buying if you actually need the extra horsepower, these aren't even worth it for that.

Attached: 1548184504119.gif (398x400, 1.6M)

Instead of them I'd be looking out for deals on the 8th gen, 9th gen is barely an improvement if you can even call it that.

The t450 lenovo battery is 24Whr @ 11.1 Watts so it should only last 2 hours. Meaning you'd need to buy multiple to last you the day.

>going through the day on battery
bruh.

nupad can do that

oh wait never mind, I guess I should have put that in /sqt/ judging by the state of some of the laptops here

I've got a T420 without Bluetooth, only WiFi card.
Does T420 allow any card to be used or there are blacklist?
Or is it better to just get generic USB BT adapter.

Just copped an absolutely mint T30. 1.8ghz P4, 2gb RAM, XP SP3, bought it for the serial port to tune race cars. Shit is max comfy

how do I raise my screen saturation

T420s will be able to last me until 2023?
i wont use it much except uni stuff, maybe watch some movies and a bit of programming if i get into it

Do I have too?
Is there a list of compatible PCI WiFi/BT cards?
>If you dont run wangblows download the winpese iso and put it on a usb so you can isntall the bios with it
You can't install modded BIOS from GNU/Linux?

Not him but can I replace the keyboard on a T530 with a T520 one as well?

Are you using lenovo vantage for charge percentage threshold? It fucks up something and the charge might drop from like 30% to 10% in a minute.

there aren't many compatible cards just do it it takes like 1 minute, you cant flash from linux. winpese is bootable though so no installing

nice quads

How is the x240 compared to the x230?

Someone please put a x60s on ebay please

that dude, even that skinny fucker, could wreck all of them.

probably yeah but boys are conditioned to not hit girls, even though he could probably win the social implications of beating up girls could be disastrous

Shit

Shitty cpu, shitty trackpad, shitty keyboard and shitty quality.

x220 > x230 > x260 > shit > x240

They're completely different. My preference is the x230 and I've had both at some point. Worst part of the x240 is the touchpad, but you can replace it with a x250 touchpad if you really want to for $60 and a firmware flash. x240 also has a ULV CPU so it's hardly more powerful than the x230. x230 has the old-style thinkpad chassis but slightly lower quality when compared with the x200 and before thinkpads. Noticably here the finish will scrape off easier than x200 or before 'pads. This is the same finish as the x220. The keyboard is nice on both, but you can optionally swap a x220 and before keyboard into the x230. I don't recommend it, it's a pretty involved mod and the keyboard is already good. The finish on the x240 seems slightly more durable but the screen is less 'recessed' so certain x240's might have slight keyboard prints on their screen which usually don't damage it over time. Oh another big point. The x230 is incredibly easy to repair or replace / add parts. the x240 requires you to remove the entire bottom of the chassis which is held on by annoying plastic clips. It's still doable but is more damage-prone if you're not used to working on modern laptops or mobile phones. I think the x240 has more screen options but none are a huge upgrade over the x230.

I'd go for the x230. It's my main machine right now until I find a x60s.

Hai guys. I've bought X220 few months ago. It has an i5-2540M and olny 4GB of RAM. It's great and all but today I needed to run a 64-bit Virtual Machine and it cant handle it so I need something more powerfull. I don't think changing the cpu is even smart. What other thinkpad could i get? Budget is ~350$ since I will sell my x220.

I see, thanks.
Is it better to get USB bluetooth adapter?

just buy more ram mate from what i can remember 64 needs at 4gb ram to run i could be wrong though

no

x250 just arrived. It has the i7 but disappointingly a 768p screen, no internal battery and only 4GB RAM. I'm going to put my SSD in there now and start looking for an internal battery.

>64-bit Virtual Machine
I have a TempleOS VM working just fine on my X220.

Yea, but I also like to work in CAD and it runs like ass, could ram really be the culprit?

Worse in every way unless you have the 1080p panel, then it's worse in every way but the screen

bet he could at least knock them out of the way and run away. that looks like russia anyway, pretty sure its ok to hit girls there, at least in situations like that

Stoke-on-Trent pls cum murder me hnnnng
And cheers

Not if you keep moving the goal posts.
If you want some serious CAD done, an eight year old dual core mobile CPU without dedicated graphics was definitely the wrong move.
You also won't be able to play AAA games or watch 4k natively.

x220 technically does 4k but at 30hz though it is definitely too weak for any kind of cad work

Not without external display.
Without hardware modding it doesn't even do FullHD.

Why is Lenovo trying hard to be Apple?

Attached: 1441882370739.jpg (322x365, 24K)

That's how capitalism works, we need a commie laptop made to last.

It's the future you chose!

AAA games are not a problem I only play NFS: U2 from time to time and 1080p is enough for me. Also I'm just learning CAD. FreeCad worked fine but Fusion is a no-go. I just need something a little bit faster. All because my main PC fried few weeks after I bought x220 for light work.

Apple is humanity's single most profitable and successful technology entity. Not copying them is the peak of ignorance and stupidity.

if only companies were copying the good parts like 16:10 screens but no they steal all the terrible shit instead

copycats never succeed over trendsetters. It's why apple is in the spot it's in today (even though the last few years apple has just been copying)

I got a Helix 2 that freezes after waking up from 2 or more hours of sleep. It also has unusual battery drain during it. This all started after upgrading to Windows 10

What travesty is this?

If I change my HD screen to a compatible FHD IPS touch screen - what do I need to do to enable the touchscreen function? reinstall os?

x220, t420 and t520 have the same keyboards

Did you have a stroke before writing this?

T580 is coming in today. Thinking about dual booting Linux. Is Linux Mint a solid windows like environment as a secondary daily driver?

Why some of you guys have multiple Thinkpads? do you really need that many?
