make && make install

linux has executables and install wizards.

no it doesn't

you have to manually execute scripts and/or fetch things from package repositories that may be incomplete

I wonder what you think an "installation wizard" is.
If you want a simple example, GOG uses MojoSetup for Linux versions of their games.

In windows installation wizards are standard. You press double click on the icon and press next a couple of times.

With linux you get a compressed file with the source code. Good luck finding the right libraries.

>With linux you get a compressed file with the source code.
that's because the only time you'd go to a website to download software is if you want the source code
if you just want to use the program, you use your package manager

/thread

the one I needed wasn't in the package manager

Linux has executables. You can set the execute bit on an exacutable file and it will execute. As for install wizards - Linux distributions have package managers (and their graphical frontends).

package managers are shit and unintuitive

I'm done with linux, it's just a waste of time

cool blog

fuck you

>>>/sqt/

wow great argument fagtron you sure convinced me with those hot opinions

You're mistaking Jow Forums for tumblr

You’re looking for snap packages over at Ubuntu

>2019
>still not using repos
>hurr durr graaandmaaa look I use the mouse to click all over the screen
lmao, kids those days

Look at the installation process for this simple program,

No it wasn't in the package manager.

linuxhint.com/install_packet_tracer_ubuntu_1804/

Good luck finding where to get the right libraries on your own if this tutorial wouldn't have been there.

Meanwhile on windows you just have to download the installer and click "next". Then it just works.

neo-Jow Forums everyone! I hope you are a CS freshman for the heavier laugh.

Executables may contain viruses. That's why the superior Linux does not allow the existence of executable files.
Imagine the following: When using inferior Windows, you download an executable file that you CANNOT VIEW. Anything may be in there, viruses, unwanted pornography, trojan elite soldiers, the hacker Jow Forums. They will then destroy your bitflipping unit from the inside using executable technology.
When you download text files, pictures or videos, no such thing can happen, as soldiers cannot hide in a 2D environment, with executable code being inherently 3D. That's why Linux downloads no executable virus code.

I hate install wizards and package managers.
Just give me fucking zip file I can extract somewhere which contains EVERYTHING the program needs, executable files, resources, config files, temporary and log files. Deleting that directory will remove all traces of the program.
No fucking aids spreading to the registry or /etc or wherever.

>You press double click on the icon and press next a couple of times
Which is exactly what happens with abovementioned GOG's versions, imagine that
>bbut libraries
You can have libraries in those too, which admittedly can conflict with some things later on, but this is a different matter.

Plz do your homework next time

Nice story bro, but makefiles supposed to check the dependecies. If they aren't there you can fix that thanks to error message.
Meanwhile on windows have dll hell and registry. Registry in fucking 2019.

Linux has both

ok OP

Yes it does, you utter retard.

>no it doesn't
Yes it does. You double click a package and your package manager takes over. That's how it works in most popular distros.

>install wizards
>have directx installed
>install directx anyway
Also nice adverts because most windows users can't read just click on large buttons.

There's nothing stopping Linux having either. See pic related for an example of a binary GUI wizard based installer.

The problem is not technical inability. It's because as usual, most Linux developers don't give a shit about user experience. They expect users to use package managers and the command line.

It's hostile and anti-user to expect as such. You should Boycott it and use Windows or macOS.

it took one (1) google query to find it. there's even a direct link in the comments:
aur.archlinux.org/packages/packettracer
>Good luck finding where to get the right libraries on your own if this tutorial wouldn't have been there.
there's no need for a tutorial, the dependencies are installed automatically

now fuck off back to windows

You guys are in complete denial.

Real argument any time now.

I don't have archlinux, I'm on kubuntu

Even if I may be able to get it anyway from there, while I'm fumbling with package mangers on linux I would have been actually being productive on windows and done with the installation a long time ago.

>Having to scour the web and some seedy sites to hopefully get the real executables and run them through install wizard.
Vs
>Opening your package manager and clicking on the stuff you want installed
Not much of a competition IMO. Especially since Linux can do what was described above, it's just not as convenient so why would you?
Wow bringing out the big guns.
>Linux can actually do this
>Nuhhuh

Leave OP alone. He loves his magic and flawless installation wizards so much.

Oh, so you're now blaming your specific distro, which may make more sense in this idiotic "discussion". Why are you still bringing Linux into this? Is it because you don't know what you're talking about? If it's so shit, why aren't you using Windows?

D-DELED DIS!!!

what the fuck

Have you heard of something called gdebi?

this, kek I think is the only one I remember with a proper wizard installation. Though I don't use it anymore.
OP is retarded
>may be incomplete
yep, completely wintoddler. that doesn't ever happen.
and installation scripts are just better.
I don't know why not more people do what tor does and just offer a distro agnostic portable zip on their page instead of distro specific packages.
I mean ok, you can extract RPMs and debs but is not exactly the same because there are dependencies

Linux is the name of the kernel that Linus Torvalds developed starting in 1991. The operating system in which Linux is used is basically GNU with Linux added. To call the whole system “Linux” is both unfair and confusing. Please call the complete system GNU/Linux, both to give the GNU Project credit and to distinguish the whole system from the kernel alone.

Add the relevant repository to your package manager

>muh distro isn't like the others
cope

I'm fucking done

Why? This is stupid. I shouldn't have to manage this.

Attached: Screenshot_20190213_140639.png (1920x1080, 1.23M)

Not all Linuxes have GNU components tho, fun stuff.

Ah, you're THAT guy, it all makes sense now.

>I shouldn't have to perform basic tasks on my PC
buy a Mac, never look back

The default package manager only knows a central repository of verified software
The obscure program you want is hosted on a third party repository in someone's basement home server, so you need to tell your package manager where to look

>basic tasks

no, this is a completely arbitrary way of installing programs

there's no package managers in windows

you just get directly what you want and it

this happens every time my computer goes into sleep mode btw

Attached: 1525068766886.png (563x714, 162K)

You don't get it directly.
You have to download what is essentially a self-extracting compressed archive with added bloatshit and shit-tier uninstallation programs that leave your registry looking like the average Pajeet toilet.

Yes, I know, a normal user like you doesn't know what "compressed" or "archive" means.

>there's no package managers in windows
Chocolatey
OneGet

>muh gooey

Attached: 1549158160674.png (1890x1630, 725K)

who cares about the registry?

it's not meant to be touched by the user

it's just supposed to work

That's because Linux is not am OS but a component used in systems such as GNU and Android.

>Packet Tracer
Garbage software. Cisco should be ashamed. They don't follow Qt theming standards half the time so you get white text on a white background with a dark system theme. And apparently they're too stupid to bundle libs with their proprietary shitware like they do on Windows. If you don't wanna make your shit available in a way that allows people to create build specs and dependency lists for packaging easily, just bundle everything and don't halfass it. Ideally use AppImage because your fancy ass is probably too good for flatpak as well.

Lincucks.

huh what are you talking about are you smoking penises again

seething, how does it feel knowing your proprietary shitware is inevitably going to be bought out by some chink megacorp?

good goy, return to the government sanctioned botnet 10 and never attempt to leave your comfort zone again

It's called PackageKit you absolute retard.

>maybe incomplete
This sounds too retarded to even be a problem for Arch, let alone any actual distro.
>no it doesn't
explain why I just got done installing Xilinx's FPGA development suite on Devuan while using a clicky-click installer.

>Why doesn't linux have executables
I know, right. Lincux can't even execute programs. Why even use such a shitty OS?

@69967988
>give the GNU Project credit
No.

it does. they're called binaries and package managers

There's no use reasoning with these buffoons. They live in their own bubble and have no grasp of reality.

What gets me the most is how every single thing on linux is a massive chore and most of the tutorials online are made in such a convoluted way (certain steps require a tutorial of their own, which is hardly available) that if you ask for help, everyone in the garbage community starts going for your throat. And then they keep whining why this trash OS never gets taken seriously.

As they say, Linux is free if your time is worthless.

>lol just open the console install the repository update check and install what you want you're a dumbass if you think it's hard git gud

Being unable to follow simple instructions is indicative of retarded cognitive abilities.

Doing simple tasks shouldn't be a cognitive skills test. Thinking it does is indicative or retarded interface design skills.

Learning to do new simple tasks is a test of basic cognitive abilities. Your failure to follow simple instructions is indicative of brain retardation, possibly due to genetic factors. I wouldn't be even remotely surprised if you were "hispanic" or "black".

>You guys are in complete denial. (end of post)
>reasoning

I guess the OP image is supposed to represent the mental gymnastics in this post

Linux (unfortunately) has both of these things

But you can't apt install them.
Checkmate winfag

>Ubuntu install has you type a few commands and then press ENTER a few times

But clicking next is that much easier?
>Install shieldwizard has crashed! Your entire disk has been imaged and sent to M$FT and the NSA for further diagnostics.

>unfortunately
So you should not be able to run programs on your OS?

Because only morons would trust random 3rd party executables not to fuck up with your computer
Windows is slowly moving towards the repository model

>executables
these exist, they simply have no file extension because NEEDING to have file extensions in order to recognize a file is a retarded windows convention
>install wizards
retarded

Wanting to master obscure distros and finding pride in how shitty and unintuitive they are is a clear sign of insecurity beyond what is found in the general population. I won't repeat my point about this mentality torpedoing any chances of Linux becoming mainstream because you clearly prefer the way things are now.

Attached: 1508515776648.png (1082x1340, 1.67M)

.elf is the most common extension for executables for Unix and Unix-like operating systems.

How is Ubuntu an obscure distro? You're not making any sense here. And how is being unintuitive to a mentally challenged person an indicator of any kind of quality?
What mentality are you even going on about? The mentality that a person using an unfamiliar OS should be able to follow simple instructions and learn how to do simple tasks? I'd say that's a pretty reasonable mentality to have for a non-retarded person. If you're that much of a nigger that you are unable to follow orders, maybe you shouldn't even be using a computer in the first place?
Also, I couldn't care less about Lincux becoming mainstream. I'm just mocking your obvious mental retardation and the mental gymnastics you use to try and justify your own stupidity and inability to learn basic shit.

"Unintuitive" as in "you don't unclick a godzillion adware/spyware options during the installation only for the program to install extra shit anyway"

At no point did I say I had trouble installing things in Linux. It's all you buddy.

Sort of like a "package"?

This is the only real aexplanation

why is it not advisable to install stuff from other repositories or packages not in package manager main repository?
also is it not safe to install packages from repository of another distro which has same package manager?
also tar.gz are pretty much linux installers right? i can safely install them right.

At no point did I say that you had trouble installing things in Lincux, "buddy". I just pointed out how you crying about something being unintuitive just shows how you lack the cognitive abilities needer to develop the intuition required to use new basic things you're not familiar with.

Didn't expect to get my daily kek from Jow Forums
Thanks fren.

People have to paste things into text terminals on fagOS and wangblows all the time

>what are dependencies and recommended packages
Oh my, you are a well-informed one. Probably not.

>you have to manually execute scripts
Thats what executable means retard

> needing an entire window for a file path
