>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photo editing, gaming) and graphics card pairing

CPUs based on current pricing:
>Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on some MSI mobos)
>R3 2200G - Recommended minimum gaming
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k - Good for gaming
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM:
>Always choose at least a two stick kit; 2x 8GB is recommended
>CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000CL15 or 3400CL16 is ideal
>All AMD chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP

Graphics cards based on current pricing:
>Used cards can be had for a steal; inquire about warranty
1080p
>580 good for another 2 years longer if you're fine with turning down settings
>1070/1660Ti/Vega56 for solid 60fps at ultra, on average more. good for another 3 years before you have to turn down settings.
1440p
>Vega64/2060 the bare fucking minimum. Have to turn down settings/get used to sub-60 fps depending on the title. Last maybe another year or two before you have to really turn down fidelity.
>2070/2080 for solid 60 fps and then some. will last you for another 3-4 years. maybe less for the 70. Radeon 7 is disqualified because of it's noise. It's just as bad as the 290x or 295x2.
2160p (4k)
>RTX 2080 as entry level - will have to adjust some settings to get solid 60 or live with sub-par fps.
>RTX 2080 Ti is better, but very expensive

General:
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>A 256GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor
>Bottleneck checkers are worthless

Reminder that Ultra settings are a meme. You literally have to pixel hunt to see a difference when jumping from Very High to Ultra.

Wtf is this trash OP

Where do I go from here lads?

I kinda want something that is powerful enough for 1080p 75hz wit all the settings at their highest. I am looking to get into something like content creation too.
How is this?[pcpartpicker.com/list/GdDcnH] Should I get a cheaper card? Any suggestion would be graet. thnak yuo

I wonder how much trouble I would get in for posting that on linnustechtips.com

Would a NH-D15 be enough to cool a i9-9980XE with all 18 cores at 3.8gz?

Better get a custom loop.

What's a non-meme case? I just picked the one recommended by logicalincrements. What's an NVMeme?

do it

The OP thinks that it's recommendable to pair a 2080ti with a 2600, just ignore it.

Would be an i5 9th gen better than an AMD strictly for gaming?

2060 shouldn't be on bare minimum for 1440p with only 6Gb of VRAM.
6Gb at 1440p is pretty similar to 3Gb at 1080p. Not enough for lots of games.
Discounting Radeon VII because of noise is dumb considering it's so much cheaper than a 2080 most of the time that you can factor in those savings to replace the cooler.
>3000CL15 or 3200CL16 is ideal
wat? The later is a lot faster. 3200CL16 is equivalent to 3200CL15. Use the formula.

9700k amd 9900k by a small margin yes. On equal set ups with the same GPU. Depending on budget also. 2700x is a solid CPU with a good card.

5pbp

>so much cheaper than a 2080
Why am I even bothering to respond to a namefag. Canadian PCPartpicker because the US version doesn't show any Radeon VIIs in stock.

Fuck off, final victory for AMD is right around the corner. We need to just wait a little long bros.

youtu.be/BcL5kbLFBdA?t=84 and it starts at 750 while the 2080 is much quieter and starts at 680. Hang yourself, namefag. The card is a stinker.

no offense but why would you want a full tower case, do you know how unnecessarily huge that is?

>2060 shouldn't be on bare minimum for 1440p with only 6Gb of VRAM.
That's the new drone motto after the "6 threads is not enough" while they have 0 effidence to back it up
>Discounting Radeon VII because of noise is dumb considering it's so much cheaper than a 2080 most of the time that you can factor in those savings to replace the cooler.
AHAHAHAHA does this nigga actually shill the radeon 7? Even on r/AMD they shit on it. You must be paid well to do this.

>Why do I even bother to post canadian prices only
kek

$700 plus 3 games vs $800 for a 2080 without the failed yields.

>posts proof that shows 4 games need more VRAM but says it doesn't
ty

The 4 games that "use" more VRAM don't actually use it. They requisition the resources, but never fill it.
In fact, those very games don't even use 6GB of VRAM at 4K with the highest presets.

techspot.com/article/1785-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-vram-enough/

I have four hard drives I want to connect to four sata ports on my J4205-ITX motherboard. For some reason, I can only seem to mount two of them, on port _A1 and _2. The disks all work, and the BIOS detects all of them, but they don't show up once I've actually booted (using debain 9.6). I suspect this is a hardware issue because the hard drive LED doesn't flash when I plug something into ports _A2 and _1. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Even then it runs better in all of them (except re2 which is amd sponsored) than your 8gb pooga. But better to have unused vram and run worse right?
>Inb4 ">hardware unboxed"

I don't even know if you are the original namefag shill or a false flagger to show how stupid he is at this point

Attached: IMG_20190303_035900.jpg (1920x1080, 393K)

2 of the SATA ports are on an ASMedia ASM1061.
I suspect the issue revolves around the controller, either in it being disabled, unsupported, etc.
Obviously, try swapping the HDDs between the ports to make sure it's not the HDD. Try looking around the BIOS to make sure nothing is disabled, try loading a different OS to make sure it's not Debian.

yes. cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-9600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/4031vs3956

Intel wins strictly for high refresh rate gaming. Overclocking gives the 9600k an edge

>be quiet still havent brought their closed loop water cooler stateside

whatta fuck man

>definitely not errors in HWU testing that's admittedly biased and unrealistic
hm ok yeah those results totally make sense even though no one else can replicate them

me building and gaming on a cheap rig

youtube.com/watch?v=vYofpdo0PXk

>hardware unboxed biased towards nvidia over amd
Oh man i'm laughing. someone post their 2600 overclocked to 4.2 with a premium cpu cooler and tightened ram timings vs the stock cooler 3.8 ghz i5 8400.

Okay here's your oc/uv/delap/flashbios vega 56 still performing worse than a 2060 in a game that you say needs more than 6gb

Attached: rtx-2060-sottr-1440p (1).png (810x923, 85K)

>implying HWU overclocking results matter when Steve also admits himself that he doesn't know how to overclock
Imagine being so desperate that this is the only source you'll use.

The 2060 is a better performer at most games than the V56 by a sizeable margin. Games don't use 6GB of VRAM at 1440p or we'd see the evidence in low-end framerates.
This shit is everywhere on the web. It's multiple web sites, not just one. If you want to argue the need for futureproofing, that's a different story.

Get a life dude. Don't root for bad products or hate on good ones because you like or dislike a company.

Attached: relative-performance_2560-1440.png (500x1010, 54K)

It turned out to be some weird bios settings configuration issue. You have to have the controller enabled, asmedia sata3 mode set to AHCI, and both sata3_1 and sata3_2 set to "external sata" in order for them to show up inside your OS. Neither the manual nor the bios information do a very good job of explaining what this actually does or why it's like this, but that's what you need to do.

intel i7 8700k vs 9700k, which one for gaming? Some people are 8700k even though it has less cores, but has more threads.

Attached: inteli7badge.jpg (281x355, 16K)

Whatever is cheaper.

HWU don't matter. they're useless specifically because of how they benchmark amd products over other products. I'm glad we can agree that they're garbage. Not even the user you're arguing with

Played Metro Exodus with an RTX 2060 on Ultra without ray tracing or DLSS. Framerates dropped to 40 FPS when it got really bad in the desert map. Don't fall for the 6 GB meme, get the Vega 56.

There isn't a noticeable difference between the two
this

Looks great

hey dudes trying to throw together a sorta cheap APU build for my nephew.

pcpartpicker.com/list/DWxcnH

I know the list probably looks retarded but i tried to throw in some rgb for shiggles since hes 10y. I got inspiration for the build from

youtube.com/watch?v=mIQfFIBjfXE

I planned on having him watch the videos to help him learn a little bit.
He mostly uses his current computer for gayming. He doesn't play any current AAA titles. Hes got a dual monitor setup atm neither of which are 1080p AFAIK.

Holy fuck is Metro Exodus poorly optimized. Ultra isn't actually maxed out; Extreme is. Ultra is one step down from Extreme.

ty, friend

>pcpartpicker.com/list/DWxcnH
Memory is way too expensive.
I'd use the price difference to get a 1Tb SSD. There are some just barely over $100.
400W PSU would be fine if you can find a better quality cheap one.
Decent build, though.

Yeah. It doesn't even look that good, either. It's not very fun, either. What a disappointing game.

pcpartpicker.com/list/zC2VKB
You can go with less expensive ram and make up for it with rgb fans imo. The psu can be 450 watts even with a graphics card. Also just found some more value oriented parts and was able to fit a 570 in for $30 more; Only $5 more if you take out the rgb fan

>pcpartpicker.com/list/zC2VKB
Oh and a 2200G with a graphics card will run better than a 2400G without one

I need to build a few workstations for the data analytics startup I work. We need 10 dev workstations with good CPUs and Nvidia GPUs for CUDA shit. I was thinking about an AMD Ryzen 3 3700x and 2080ti, 64GB of RAM, and 2TB of NVMe storage, but I don't know much about the rest, like what motherboard or power supply or whatnot. Any help Jow Forums? No RGBs please.

thanks for the options! question on the ram though. The explaining computers guy is using 2400MHz ram and cautions against using anything above 2933. I assume above that is fine for the ryzen 5?

>Ryzen 3 systems only support this memory speed when overclocked. So personally I would not fit modules faster than 2933.

Also is there a huge difference between the 5 2400g alone and the 3 2200g with a gpu?

What tool is considered the best for testing OC stability with realistic avx workloads?

Yes, but there is a much huger difference. between the 2400G graphics and the 570

2200G uses Vega 8 and 2400 G uses vega 11

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-Vega-8-Ryzen-iGPU-vs-AMD-RX-Vega-11-Ryzen-iGPU/m441833vsm401440

2400G has a 50% better gpu graphics-wise to the 2200G

However, 570 will have 200% better performance than 2400G vega 11 graphics

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-570-vs-AMD-RX-Vega-11-Ryzen-iGPU/3924vsm401440

The motherboard you plan on buying supports 3000 speed ddr4 ram so 3000 ram is okay

pcpartpicker.com/product/tGw7YJ/msi-b450m-pro-m2-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b450m-pro-m2

wow thanks a bunch guys i really appreciate it have a stallman.

Attached: GNUcalibur.jpg (500x375, 55K)

That's a nice stallman. No problem

What's a good 1440p 144hz monitor

is it stupid to buy a non-NVME m.2 drive?

What happened to the link in the OP where it has instructions for me to DL and install w10 LTSB/C?

anything super wrong with this at first glance? i already have the 1060, just everything else in my pc will be getting a face lift so keep that in mind. i plan to ditch the 2600 once ryzen gen 2 drops

Attached: eih0RO6.png (696x605, 51K)

Might as well buy a 2-4TB HDD while you're at it to store your pornographic materials.

>tower style mITX case
Then what's the point of an ITX build? It still takes up the same amount of space as a normal ATX Mid-tower, it's just shorter.

If you're going ITX, at least make it a small form factor build.

Navi when?

i already have about 20tb worth of storage

bad opinion

should i upgrade my 1300x to a 2600 considering they're on sale for 150 burgers (including The Division 2)?
it's for my living room PC which is only used for 1080p gaming and nothing else (has an rx580)

Attached: boomers.png (380x349, 77K)

Are there ANY good usb hubs for desktops?

>6Gb at 1440p is pretty similar to 3Gb at 1080p. Not enough for lots of games.
Fucking proven false time and time again, retard.
youtube.com/watch?v=pfnzHA3-MhM

>i'm too stupid to know what allocation means

1300x or 2200g for the same price if I have rx 570/gtx 1060 already?
thx

Is the Vega 56 cheap where you live?

$465 in Moscow, Russia

Unless you need the extra performance now, no.

Midrange probably in July

Liquid cooling is a meme
No reason to replace the 2600 with only a 1060

>lso is there a huge difference between the 5 2400g alone and the 3 2200g with a gpu?
Depends on the graphics card, but yes, huge.

>cautions against using anything above 2933
Whoever told you that is an idiot. With all the BIOS updates, pretty much all RAM will run at its rated speeds (e.g., 3200)

>replace defective I/O port on my 2 week old pc

>HWU again
ex dee

Obviously 2200G

2600 user here, why not? is ryzen 3xxx really gonna be that much better?

Why? As far as I can see, 1300x is better on benchmarks and in games, have more l3 cache (8MB vs 4MB), BUT 2200g has iGPU (which I won't use since I have rx 570/gtx 1060 already) and some more instructions which COULD be useful in the feature.

Please, Jow Forumsuys, any more opinions?
1300x or 2200g for the same price if I don't need iGPU?

I'm so sorry user.

Also this tempered glass meme with cases needs to fucking stop. No side panel fan = GPU and MOBO runs hotter, glass is a dust/fingerprint magnet, and it drives up the price of the case that could have been spent better elsewhere like better quality fans.

That's what you get for falling for that awful meme

It was a p350x, so the cost was the least of my worries with it.

You can easily OC the 2200G to 1300X levels.. 2200G is basically a 1300X with an iGPU. One of the main benefits to having an iGPU is that your computer still works if you have to RMA or sell your graphics card

>i'm so stupid i'll just completely discount facts with an "ex dee"
>of course while providing none to the contrary

The 3000 series will be better, but games will be limited by the 1060 even with a 2600

>2200G is basically a 1300X with an iGPU
Again,1300x has 4MB more l3 cache, and 2200g has more instructions because it's newer
Also, I'm not gonna OC or sell dGPU anytime

You're thinking about this too hard

this is why I was fucking sweating moving mine around

I have
>i5 2320
>8GB DDR3
>128GB SSD
>eMachines 1440x900 DVI/VGA monitor
I need a GPU for Skyrim/Fallout 4 (+ mods) but I don't really want to upgrade again when Elder Scrolls 6 comes out (2-4 years from now).
Will a RX 570 work or do I need something beefier? I don't mind turning down settings.

yea. RX570 4GB will be fine. Especially if you're only playing at 1440x900p. Here's an RX570 4GB for $130 including 2 free games.

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131717&Description=rx 570&cm_re=rx_570-_-14-131-717-_-Product

Got a ram question for you all
>2x 8GB, 3200 MHz 16-18-18-38 timing; 140$
>4x 8GB 3600 MHz 19-20-20-40 timing; 290$
Assuming I was going to go for the full four sticks, its a 10$ difference for frequency vs. timings. Which should I snag? These are both G Skill

Neat, thanks user.

What CPU and motherboard do you have? Unless you have Intel X299 or AMD X399 with quad channel memory, getting high frequency memory running across 4 sticks is bitch.

I've got an i7-9700k and gigabyte z390 aorus pro wifi board.

3200 cl16s. standard for 3600 is cl18, so those sound like shit. in fact, save your money and get 2x8, you don't need 32 now, esp with ddr5 around the corner

On desktop build yes go for to nvme. If replacing for laptop depends if laptop supports nvme m2 and if you want high capacity, sata m2 more worth

get the 2x8GB kit. For Intel, timings for RAM isn't as important compared to Ryzen. There's a drop off in performance for RAM speed above 3200MHz anyway. If you really feel you need 32GB of RAM, you can get a 2x16GB kit. I got
>2x16GB B-Die
>14-14-14-34 timings
>3200MHz
for $350. You can get non B-die CL16 2x16GB kit for as cheap as $220.

>tfw forgot to install mobo drivers for an entire month
Building a PC sure requires doing a lot of needfuls.

ehhh. Depending on the motherboard and it's stuff on the I/O, standard Windows 10 bundled drivers are more than enough.

So my CPU temp stays at 70-81C for 99% of time when stress testing (Intel Burn Test, Prime blend, AIDA) but goes 91C for a second once in like 10 minutes. No throttling. Is this normal? Should I even consider going higher Hz.
