>long, rich history >oldest trophy in sport >adrenaline-pumping if you don't sail shit-tier cruisers >whitest sport, europeans dominate >man vs nature, not some artificial sport tied down by arbitrary courts and goals >many different types, from ocean racing on keelboats to high-performance foiling dingies that literally fly above the water
it's expensive and basically a waste of money in this economy.

Someday I plan to get a Pearson Triton '26 and sail around the world.

Of course I sail. I race mountain bikes, listen primarily to classical music, drink only red wines, and have a beagle. I sail a big fuckin cedar-decked M16. If But fuck that moth shit. I wanted to prance about like a foiling AC wannabe, and go as fast as possible by not touching the water, I'd just fly an ultralight instead.

why is there a balloon thread and a sailing thread

I've sailed for a few years of my life. Just small, fast shit like in OP's pic. My dad had a 30' yacht we used to race every other saturday.
But, in all honesty, its a fucking drag. The effort, cost and sett-up for what is ultimately a very slow boat ride. You do a few laps up and down the waterway/lake. You get sunburned. You get wet most of the time. You can't really take anything or go anywhere because the faster the sailing boat, the less shit it can carry. Or if you want a practical sailing boat with the capacity to carry shit, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg, and need private mooring.
Buy a 20' fiberglass boat with a 100hp outboard on it and rip up the coast, go wakeboarding, fishing, island camping. You can take booze and food. You've got shade if you want it. You can anchor anywhere and move at a moments notice. When you're done, just float that shit up onto a trailer and drive away.
What is the best way to start sailing as a beginner?
John Long
sailing: pros: > can fish, free food > excersise and mental stimulation > no niggers since they cant swim > people will call me captain > place to invite girls over to
cons: > expensive > need to live next to a body of water
seems like a good investment desu

Sailing is really hard work. It's fun though, just got to have your wits about you
Highly recommended

My country is land empire, not sea empire So i dont care about sailing, ships and so on
Jackson Cook
Volunteer at a club as a crew member. Most clubs will sort you out. Just be prepared to have instructions yelled at you by the boomer who owns the boat. Don't worry, he's easy to spot. He'll be the one steering the thing

Rugby is an alpha sport. (if you can get past the niggers and kiwifruits)

will they be a chinese takover of the far east? as long as i can remember they are no ethnic chinese there. Might be the opposite, russia seizing maandchuria, xin jiang and inner mongolia

I crew on a 33' keelboat from time to time. It's fun, but I hate simultaneously being freezing cold and getting sunburned. It's also horrible how you sail until you're exhausted and then still have to pack everything up at the end. I think most of the issues for me come from my incredibly competitive skipper, who in the past has literally decided to finish a race after we tore one spinnaker in half and had to pull another one out from under the boat after fully dropping it in the water.
I do like sailing though, so I'm probably going to get a dinghy once I can afford it.
