I've seen so many low performing women / indians that I have developed a bias (for things like reading a blogpost or choosing which talk to listen to in a conference). Otherwise I guess most people won't refuse an outstanding employee because of gender. (although this might make sense, since a women can get pregnant in the middle of a project and the employer would have legal obligation, but this might be illegal practice).
Anyway, since we don't hear complains about "not enough women among bricklayers" or "too many women among nurses", I'm quite dubious about hearing complains about too many men among engineers or in CS.
Plus if we were to require hiring quotas, should we also impose quotas on all the made up genders, all the possible hair colors, a quota on manlets, a quota on eyesights..?
