Im getting a mega huge 14TB hard drive for all my pirated movies. but the only two decent ones are the Seagate Barracuda or the Iron wolf.

specs wise they seem to be the same yet Iron Wolf is £60 cheaper. which should I get

I keep a copy of all my movies on two drives in case one fails

>not having a NAS with actual redundancy
step up your data hoarding game son

Iron wolf has higher quality contruction and parts inside, its also build for high tolerance to vibration compared to the Barracuda.
The choice is yours.

what even is a NAS?

Aren't 14TB drives twice the Gdollar per GB as 4TB drives? Why not buy more smaller drives and a backup system?

I already have a few 4TB hard drives but they full up :(

Attached: Capture.png (787x281, 9K)

It's short for NASA

invest in a NAS maybe googlel it :)

The don't know maybe buy one before wasting a ton of money on failure prone hard drives.

Lol type cat /dev/zero > /dev/sdb

NAS means 'network attached storage', so it's mostly self-explanatory. A NAS device is a box which connects to your home network. It's basically a computer, but which uses just enough power to spin hard drives. You put hard drives inside it and it appears on your network, so pretty much anything in your home can read data from and write data to the NAS.

Some NAS' have more than one hard drive slot, so you can have a single drive in use and a spare in case the first fails - or it can pool the two hard drives into a single big drive.

how exactly is a NAS more convienient than just having the hard drives as they are now in my PC?

This is a good thread to askBuild your own NAS or buy one?

but what if my parents access it and find my questionable taste in porn?

>common household storage
>multi-device access (for backups etc)
>media streaming without keeping a PC on 24/7

Buy. Less hassle that way I feel.

They already know, user. Also, either keep it on your own machine or encrypt it. Or put it into a 3540mb Word file if you're hardcore

keep that stuff in local storage

>only two decent ones are the Seagate
surely you were trying to say there were no good ones to be found

>caring about downloaded movies
wow this is the kind of moron who gets 14tb drives i guess lmao

based and wordpilled

if you don't fuck with NAS you can't be on my board

This is what 4k retardation does to your mind.

4k is noticably far better than 1080p and worth every GB

Attached: Matrix 4k Remaster 1.jpg (1920x1600, 418K)

Is this a troll? The in-Matrix scenes had a green tint on purpose. If that's an actual remaster someone should've been fired.

lmao deal with it.

offline copy > nas

how is that possibly better?

>Up: soul
>Down: soulless

Best CD ever honestly.

He meant you should get 4x 4TB instead of 1x 14TB because it's cheaper, you dumdum

It's called a remaster.
Upgrading resolution doesn't change calibration.

>Post images with different colorimetry to illustrate his point on 4K
What an absolute brainlet.

It's been explained a billion times why RAID is not a backup.

Attached: file.png (1136x414, 51K)

I'm not using it as a backup dumbass

Yikes

but I want all of my movies in alphabetical order in one folder, i can't do that if I have to split them up.

>what is freenas
>what is zfs
>what is zpool

my dude, just install emby or plex or something

Ok dumbass then stop shitting on people who actually have backup copies of their data.

>simple plain old RAID
>in 2019

Attached: zfs.jpg (584x366, 51K)

I have a small 1tb ext4 nas with 1gb ram for trivial shit like porn doujins, will 1gb ram be enough if i migrate from ext4 to zfs?

>1gb
>1tb
you wouldn't gain anything really

RAID 6, you goddamn idiot.
ZFS anything is a meme for enthusiasts. It's great that people like you move the industry forward, but I'll leave your risks and expenses (namely large amounts of ECC RAM) to you.

why is that?
I'm a pleb but the "lower chance of corrupted files" caught my attention

it replaces your BLACKED.com siterips and bestiality videos with pictures of flowers and wholesome landscapes

This is precisely why I don't buy remasters.
I do notice that it's sharper, but maybe you should've used examples that don't have such color changes.
Regardless, the sharpness increase is negligable on most screens at most distances.

>RAID 6, you goddamn idiot.

$100 is expensive?

Attached: freenas.png (427x221, 7K)

Reg ecc off Ali requires a server motherboard, so it's another thing. From what I see, single new 8GB non-reg ECC is 60 euros w/o taxes.

>ZFS anything is a meme
>large amounts of ECC RAM
Don't conflate the problems of RAIDZ with ZFS.

is that DDR3 or DDR4?
and its RAM, not like it matters if its new or not

You're investing over $500 USD in storage and you're relying on one disk never failing? Get a raid card or a NAS or get a second drive and clone it every month.

Buying a NAS is ok but many use proprietary parts so if the PSU or board fail you have to send it in for repair while just building a NAS from a budget PC works just as well and you can configure it however you please. Whatever you do don't try IRST, even Windows RAID and other software RAID is better than IRST.

or just set up an overnight backup of the truly irreplaceable stuff to gdrive, box, onedrive...

>(namely large amounts of ECC RAM)
you can get ECC DDR3 for pretty cheap used

>overnight
yeah let me upload my 20TB of shit on my garbage 10mbit upload

thanks comcast

yes
$2/gb or even less

except they're mostly made in china these days

what's the point of hoarding movies

being an autistic retard

But for real the matrix is supposed to have a green tint, its part of the movie.

Build one: youtu.be/AWJEHfV-pmA

NASs are proprietary locked boxes which, other than the drives themselves, are completely non-upgradable. Even the drives are locked in in some cases. And they aren't even cheaper than building a mini ITX PC for the task - a NAS is literally worse in every way.

Concerning 4k gayming. When performing simulations via 4k.
1 differentiate upscale vs true 4k
2 higher resolution = optical health?
3 not quite 1, what is human observational potential
4 dayta transfer of display port, if I run 4 HDMI off dp, data loss?

Reminder on frequency, monitor format, any optometrical considerations welcomed.

>spending over $1000 on storage

How many movies could you have bought for the same money your spend on pirating movies?

Never work in IT. You'll end up causing a lot of problems for other people because you assume too much.

IronWolf > SkyHawk > Barracuda, Seagate speaking. Barracuda's shit.

Stablebit drivepool, then you don't have to bother with RAID autism

what do you mean?

>western digital
lol cuckboy

Underage detected.

if you only have 1 pc that you leave on all the time, a NAS is of no benefit

if you are a typical fa/g/git then you rationalize all sorts of bullshit to justify your need to have unnecessary shit for the sake of stroking your autistic ego

I prefer the convinence of having them on a video file i can open whenever instead of having to put in a disk with unskippable advertisements.

Attached: Movie Collection Millenials.jpg (800x560, 129K)

its fine as long as you remember backups and that raid isnt a backup and that one such drive for backup is not a very reliable backup.

Anyone know good software that dublicates files i have on one hard drive to the other?

Still better than the faulty Toshiba. Also remember OCZ is a mess

>faulty Toshiba
nigga, do you even read BackBlaze's reports?

>Claiming WD Ultrastar is the same as other WD drive
Lol. It's just rebranded HGST drive using the WD brand

Jsut built a 10x 10tb FreeNAS box, got two drive failure redundence going. Feels good

>rebranded HGST
>HGST
there is no HGST. we western digital now

Attached: lil-wayne.jpg (1200x630, 155K)

Just get a few 8tb WD external drives on sale. you can get 3 for the price of a single 14tb OEM drive

OP here, went with the Iron Wolf in the end.
