If I had any use whatsoever to run microdick winshit in a vm, I'd be posting a screencap of it now.

underrated

I still dual boot Windows and Fedora. I would say I grew out of the whole "Linux is objectively superior" phase back in 2006 or so.

I just got really tired of running into problems and constantly being told by other Linux users that it was all my fault and that Linux is never to blame. For those of you who used Linux in the late 90s through mid 00s, you probably remember the almost cult like fanaticism that Linux had. I would talk to people who would tell me about how they had to rewrite their xorg.conf file to get the right resolution, setup wireless using ndiswrapper, wpa_supplicant, iwconfig, and then modify some kernel settings and recompile so that sound would playback through ALSA. After all that, they'd go on to tell me how Linux was so easy their grandmother could do it and that it was better than Windows in every way. Back then, LinuxQuestions was the primary message board. People were helpful if you had a common problem, but the moment all of the usual tricks failed, they didn't just say "Sorry it's not working out bro. Your hardware must not be compatible". Nope. Instead, they would turn to insults and "works on my machine" was evidence that you were inferior garbage since all these other people got it to work.

Even today, I sometimes get hard lock ups (have to hold power button) on Fedora 28. I've never had those kind of problems with Windows. I've had other issues with Windows, so I'm not saying it's perfect either, but it generally works with fewer hassles. It just took a lot of maturing before I finally stopped feeling guilty or like I had less nerd cred because I preferred Windows for much of my computing.

17 when I started using GNU/Linux instead

downvoted, cringed, saged and reported

17. used it throughout highschool and advocated it. now i'm more productive. i learned cool shit, but it's not good for desktop

When I hit 20.

I finally grew out of it this year, at age 26. I'd been using it on and off since I was a teenager and tried to use it as my only OS for a year and I can only describe it as lackluster.

Things that work out of the box on Windows don't work properly on GNU/Linux or need excessive configuration to do so. Kernel updates still break things on even on distros that "just work" (Ubuntu, Mint, Debian). Trying to run legacy software is dogshit because repositories containing the dependencies for software as recent as the mid-2000s are just gone. Built-in drivers for video cards still suck and while you will get acceleration 99% of the time, it's just not as good as using the proprietary driver (if you can install it without breaking the kernel that is.)

Needless to say I went back to Windows a week ago because of all the piling frustrations and I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. If I get sick of Windows too I can always just buy a Mac. Mac OS is a much better Unix-like operating system anyway.

you're glowing

Unity is best.

wintoddlers in full damage control today, did an update fuck up Windows again?

That's usually on Tuesdays.

I do enjoy enterpise-class system management functionality.

Usually takes around three days to reinstall windows and download all the drivers, tho.

That's so weird. I have the exact opposite experience. Everything works great out of the box in linux for me and installing additional software or libraries is so much easier in linux and tends to work. If anything goes wrong on windows I have an enormously difficult time fixing things.

I dual boot win10/ubuntu

been exclusively on loonix for 5 years, no end in sight

>you're glowing
That's because I'm pregnant with your anal baby, pumpkin.

i use windows 7 which is boringly stable really.

I grew out of Windows when I grew out of gaming.

~ 25

Yeah.

This

Linux has always been pointless unless if you are using one of those Linux based operating systems like clonezilla.

I never did because I need both Linux and Windows on my machine in order to fix the other OS when it decides to shit its pants. For example on Windows after about an hour of usage the system interrupt process uses 100% of the CPU thus making the computer unusable, I tried reinstalling but it's still there, probably a hardware issue. It can be solved by suspending the machine though. I never had problems on Ubuntu 16.04 (except for one time when I accidentally deleted both Nvidia and noveau drivers and wasn't able to reinstall them because I was a noob), then the 18.04 update came and since I hated Gnome and prime-switch was broken I tried elementaryos, Gentoo, Xubuntu 18.10, Kubuntu 18.10. All had some annoying bugs except for Gentoo which I ended up uninstalling because I was wasting time trying to figure out the minimum amount of kernel modules I needed to have a working OS. Now I'm back to Ubuntu 18.04 because they fixed the issue with switching between integrated and dedicated GPU, and for now it seems to work.

At what age did you grow out of Linux and into Apple?

He looked quite feminine in that first photo. I'm not gay or anything, but I would totally turn him into a woman if you know what I mean.

For folks who didn't grow up with LiGnux, you grow into it, not out of it. I grew up with windows and to a lesser extent Mac OS. I got tired of windows during high school, experimented with BeOS and Zeta Yellowtab. Moved on to become a MacFag. Then discovered that with LiGnux I could have a level of control over my computers that is either not possible or not permanent when using windows or Mac OS. Now I dual boot windows and LiGnux because it's the best of both worlds. If Apple ever allows clones again, or Haiku succeeds in reviving the BeOS legacy, then it'll be a different story, but there's just no beating LiGnux for getting work done, for networking, and for development. And there's no beating windows for dicking around and playing games.

you seem like an ok guy

i swear to god if you say lignux one more time...

Why do you care? Fuck off and get back to fortnite with your zoomer friends

I used Ubuntu back in 2009 to 2010, haven't used it since. I'd like to make a writing machine with a Linux OS someday.

The thinking man's way of referring to GNU / Linux. Silent 'G' to keep our autism hidden when we speak.
