Actually, it's OneUI now.
They pretty much just took Apple's Human Interface Design Guidelines for iOS (developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/ios/overview/themes/) and applied it to their Android skin with some slight Material-Like changes and massive border radii.
They even copied iOS' large titles with their exact shrink animation. And UITableView and its header style.
Pretty shameless if you ask me.

Ideally they'll design it in a way that makes protectors unnecessary, so the thickness in practice remains what it is today.
That probably won't happen though, because people want their fagile glass phones that you can't take out of your protector.
