Linux?

Void GNU+Linux

lubuntu

I have a 2nd gen Mac Mini (first gen with Intel processor). I have Debian 8 installed with Lxde and it's surprisingly smooth. I'm tempted to install an ssd and put Debian 9 with non-free drivers, xfce DE, etc. I would do the same if I had your laptop. Your MacBook probably has the same "unique" boot issues mine had and Debian makes a unique ISO which works with that stubborn bios/boot-loader/whatever Apple calls it.

The 2006 MacBook can use Coreboot/Libreboot, if you're into that kind of thing. Otherwise, the Apple 32-bit EFI will work fine with any modern OS, see below for instructions
Technically any modern OS which supports EFI will work with the 32-bit EFI Macs. You just need to get this file:
github.com/jfwells/linux-asus-t100ta/blob/master/boot/bootia32.efi
Place it in the same folder where the 64-bit EFI bootloader resides (you will have to either modify the ISO or be able to write to the bootable USB), and then you can boot off USB just like any other distro. Note that I used GRUB, it supports 32-bit EFI. Not sure about other bootloaders.

OS 9

Is yours equipped with a C2D? The Mac Minis use mobile socket M CPUs, so you can pop in a 65nm C2D if yours comes with a Core Duo/Solo.

I don't remember specifically which model. I'll have to check now. Thanks.

I pulled it and checked. It has the 1.83 GHz Core Duo T2400 c2d, so I can theoretically upgrade it to the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo P8800? Referencing this page - everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/index-macmini.html

MacOS X! Oh, wait, riiiiight....

Fuck does that mean?

Throw it away

Give it back Tyrone!

Make me, fag.

You'll be limited to these processors

do it. i recently put my old mid 2009 MBP out of storage and installed ubuntu on it. gave it to my daughter and she loves it. the machine works like brand new.

Back to your shitting street Ranjeet.

wtf it actually looks pretty good

I'm sure the max is is the T7600.

see , don't forget that the chipset has a limitation of 3GB of RAM recognized (you can install 4GB as in my case, it should get Dual Channel)

I also did this.
Still looking for a free T7600.

May you get one user. It'll bring out the best of the GMA 950 (along with dual-channel RAM). You can enable OpenGL 2.1 support with the following:
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics#OpenGL_2.1_with_i915_driver
I wouldn't recommend turning it on by default, only for games/applications that refuse to work with OpenGL 1.4 (T&L, Vertex Shaders are done in software, leading to a very slow experience)
