nVidia isn't even an option since their drivers aren't included with the kernel and are inconvenient to install. So the battle is between AMD and Intel and AMD is significantly better when it comes to GPU performance.

I have that exact card. I got the card before they were offering free games of course. Lost out on all 3 of those games.All the people complaining about RTX and price are just angry have nots. Games like Metro Exodus actually looks quite amazing on ultra preset, no DLSS, and full Ray Tracing capability. I do hope Ray tracing capability becomes less performance impacting and cheap $300 cards can do it. But getting angry because you can't afford the latest and greatest is just sad.
The VII is power hungry and gives 1080/2070 performance. It still being based on GCN, it still has the same issues. Not being able to process enough triangles is the architecture's downfall.

Power hungry out of the box? Sure - but it undervolts nicely. Unless a 2070 is a mere 4% slower than a 2080 at 1440p (as per user's favourite chart to post from techspot) I disagree with that statement. In fact based upon Hardocp's undervolting testing a UV VII is rivalling a 2080 in all but the biggest outliers (which goes both ways, ignoring outliers in favour of AMD like Dirt 2).

That however is 100% true - VII does what it does through seer clockspeed to brute force it.

I was talking out of box performance yea. 99% of people don't even know what under/overclocking is. So these people are going to just see lack luster performance for the amount of power/heat the card uses and makes. I'm not anti-AMD, I have Ryzen in my system. But the last AMD GPU I bought was a Day one Fury X and it couldn't be worse. Aged like milk and it's day one release was nightmare tier.

AMD is staying afloat thankfully due to cpu and video game consoles but we are at the point where normies are forgetting AMD gpu's exist. It's a shame but nvidia isn't trying to jew their customers to the maximum yet. Although I suspect its going to get worse after this generation of 20 series cards.

the 570 and 580 are the best value cards on the market, by far. price to performance, they're unmatched. the fact that it isn't common knowledge makes them underrated.

Vega 7nm at 2-2.2ghz+ is just as fast but amd cheaped out by reusing the cooler from the firepro duo + shit thermal pad and over conservative binning over volting and underclocking.
Once they fix wattman and some bios updates the card should improve alot.

AMD RTG is going back to ATI's roots of being a provider of iGPU and semi-integrated GPU solutions to OEM customers.

What is actually happening is that discrete GPU market is about to undergoing a wave of demand destruction in the value and mid-range segments markets in the 2020s with next generation of iGPU solutions start becoming "good enough" for the masses.

Nvidia has been scared witless of that scenario for over a decade now. They are banking on RTX mode being the ticket that will stall the encroachment of iGPUs into the value and mid-range portions of the discrete market.

And they are right. Once consoles get upgraded ray tracing GPUs, all triple A games will be ray traced. Those poorfags who are allergic to progress will have to stay in the mobile segment which can't run ray tracing for at least a decade. There won't be any multiplatforming between enthusiasts and iGPU gaming.

The low end dies this year, or at least starts to do a PeeWee Herman at the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie, not the show). There goes the volume. 2012 sees the same happening for the high end. The middle isn't enough to sustain NV.
