It's related to another thread. The US has allowed Google, Amazon etc to become monopolies. In the EU, these companies would've been broken up a long time ago. This makes EU tech companies less competitive than US/Chinese companies on the global markets.

But there are still plenty of successful tech companies in the EU. Most of them are working on industrial tech though.

Amazon was a bookselling online shop that expanded to include any kind of product. It's nothing but a glorified online shop. And they don't build their own technology for their data centers either.

Europe has the most important shipbuilding companies in the world for example. Some of the biggest chemical production companies too. It has one of the two most important aerospace corporations in the world.

Basically Europe and South Korea OWN the global shipbuilding business right now. The USA doesn't even exist in this line of business. And yeah, they also make those ships that deliver your most of your imported goods, unless they come by plane (some of them made by Airbus in Europe).

European firms have profited from the 2008 crises and bought Asian shipbuilders that failed economically and now they basically corner the market, they got most orders for new commercial ships.
