Forgot to mention, culdn'd downlad ot from kernel .org, so I used linux-libre.

If you compile your own kernel then you can very well learn how to boot it.
>Power PC?

It's a G3 MAC, Iknow how to bot it from grub, but yaboot it's a crap.

Looks like something is wrong with your kernel modules and root is not being mounted. Something might be wrong with your initramfs, too.

So?

Read the fucking output. The text there is not just to look cool.
>yaboot
Just switch back to GRUB, LILO, or syslinux. GRUB is easy mode. The problem is that root is not being mounted, dipshit. RTFM for yaboot if you insist on using it.

You cannot use any of those in ppc.

I don't insist in use it, I need to use it, because you cannot use grub/LILO on ppc. Yaboot is default .

Like someone else said, the root_fs can't be mounted because the driver (or some other kernel module) for the hard disk can't be loaded.

problem with the initramfs, I don't think so. Do what it says and post the results (cat /proc/cmdline, cat proc/modules; ls /dev). Did you change any options when you did make menuconfig?

Google PowerPC yaboot bootloader for Linux. There should be a couple of results.

what is under the /boot directory?

I'm leaning towards the UUID has been changed and is now mismatched.

Compare that UUID (shown in cat /proc/cmdline) to the one in /boot/grub/menu.lst. are they the same?

bump

It's ok to say 'Linux'. It's not a dirty word. There's no need to go defensive and referring to it as 'the kernel'.

possibly missing directories, stop being a lazy asshole and read the fucking output, it tells you to boot with the argument "cat /proc/cmdline", you fucking dumbass

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>linux-libre

are you sure you have every driver needed compiled in to the kernel? that /dev looks empty with no hard drives showing at all
