As a young man who can code linux why should I go get a programming job? It seems like the human resources departments and their liberal arts degrees have it perfectly handled on their own.

be a sysadmin. its easily the least cucked computer job.

ha you mean dev ops right? I know you didn't mean to say a bad word!

no. the title is sysadmin. address me correctly before i go back there and reboot the entire blog server like i should've done months ago but "muh uptime".

you can not say this to whamens

network security is nice. though you need to know some network + sys stuff too and be able to talk to your audience. sometimes people need the fear of god instilled into them with terminology and consequences they can understand

sysadmin has best job security. literally every machine require's my smartcard and password to get into the IPMI. i can say whatever the fuck i want and i won't get fired.

netsec is high pressure af, you're literally the fall guy for everything.

Good luck getting sacked over your users installing malware and your "firewall" not using DPI to decrypt the traffic real time, identify it's malware and them magically uninstall the malware.

> IPMI
Non-updated IPMI can be cracked in one minute.

whitelisting fixes this. not allow any traffic to the building you dont approve of.
"sorry bro, you gotta convince Mr.ShekelStein upstairs to send me a letter explaining why you need to access pornhub from work."

They won't let me download my pdf. I guess I am just going to have to bring in my USB and plug it into my work computer on the network.

Jared I can't see your email. Plug your usb into mine and Carol's computer too so we can see the pdf.

>his sysadmin is retarded enough to allow workstations with USB ports.

That's why you have a management vlan that has access to ipmi that you vpn into.

Where do you plug your mouse and kb into?
>just whitelist devices
can still get compromised by badusb drives.

If you have physical access to your workstation, you cannot secure it.

Great news we just got these new ergonomic keyboards. I heard about them in a keynote! They all have usb ports too. I want you to install them on EVERY workstation by wednesday. What's that? No we HAVE to use them I ordered 200 of them. They've already arrived. Don't question my authority! I am your boss!

its a shit idea to allow the ipmi interface to connect to any network that can reach WAN at all. just have a dedicated IPMI network and then actually fucking show up to work to access it.

The whole fucking point in IPMI is remote management.

remote as in i dont have to fucking go to every machine and hookup a keyboard and display every fucking time i want to manage it.
its much more comfortable to work in my office instead of the server room anyway.

We've got these new embedded machines we want you to install in the building. They are proprietary and managed by another company. We have no idea what code they want and the only way to maintain them is to upgrade them every five years which costs 35 thousand dollars. Don't be silly! You won't have to keep them running after we refuse to pay for the ugprade.
>five years pass
But you are a computer guy why can't you make them work? We can easily find someone who doesn't have problems with embedded windows xp machines like YOU do!

if you can't secure a single vpn connection into a Vlan'd ipmi network you're a brainlet.

Guess you should just disable ssh for everything as well, eh? I don;t mind driving 40 mins to my data center everytime it goes down.

>sure thing Mr.ShekelStein. although to do that, the blogs are gonna have to go down for about a week.

So something like CCNA-tier knowledge, documentation skills and some paranoia is enough for these sysadmin jobs?

>IT locks down all the workstations
>my department starts complaining about how their computers have been rendered useless
>IT tightens their grip more
>we threaten to quit
>higher-level management gets involved
>my department, and no other department in the company, now has rights to do whatever the fuck we want on our machines
>still have to deal with firewall but whatever

I demand they stay up or you're fired. We have people lining up to work here. They KNOW what a great job it is!

Attached: 1552203268595.jpg (790x590, 247K)

>rendered useless
your workstation should be able to do your job and nothing more.

>tfw cant fire me if employee database is offline

Mr smith needs access to his files on his specially adapted , malware infested laptop, please make the necessary arrangements to get him what he needs by the end of the day.

I have a important financial meeting tomorrow and need Mr smiths reports.

>can code linux
What does this even mean?

You're fired. Pack up your shit and leave. I have a pdf to read and I don't have time for a code monkey who won't do his job.

Attached: 1550624096112.jpg (474x711, 66K)

being able to change directory using cd command in terminal probably

If I can't install the tools I need to do my job, then I can't do my job. If I have to wait 2 days for IT to approve my software, then that's $500 of the company's money down the drain.

UGH what are you talking about user. Just use the web IDE we gave you and code the PHP code like we told you to do! Honestly I don't know what's wrong with code geeks like you!

Attached: 1550959619633.png (400x400, 44K)

user I have been to a confernece. Some person talked about how the python programmers have invented artificial intelligence. Many people in suits like me were clapping and so I started clapping too. I want you to change all of our code to python as soon as possible.

My next conference is in 2 years why do you ask?

>who can code linux
Not only are you retarded enough to use "code" as a verb, you think writing bash is "coding Linux". So my answer is don't get a programming job, we have enough idiots as it is.

merriam-webster.com/dictionary/code

>code
>linux
The nearest McDonalds is hiring, you are only fit for their jobs.

I should've gone into business and become a manager

>coding linux

Attached: unknown.png (469x459, 232K)

>walk into a company
>this guy was the guy who invented the framework 15 years ago
>some mid tier guy has been maintaining it for 10 years. Finally blew up and left
>management refuses to just let you fix it how you want

You would be surprised how common this is.

Attached: 1551682421672.jpg (1920x1080, 742K)

this. sysadmins never get fired because the new guys always either immediately quits or kills himself once he See's how fucked the old guy left it for him.

>code linux
?!

Not to mention most programmers in a "full time job" are working 60 hours a week trying to cover the jobs of what 10 people should be doing.

Is infosec/Cyber Sec cucked? I'm working on getting net+ now.

Yes, and ebonics is also considered a language. I also don't care, and you still can't "code Linux".
