Why do people concern themselves with this question as if it matters. We will not teach the self driving AI this. We'll create a model that is statistically safer than humans and can get you from A to B. People argue about this as if it matters or as if there is even a right answer. What happens happens, nobody cares. We save lives either way.

Only in the sense that they can't really tell black people from white people. If black people get hit more often than other people, it's because broke ass niggas can't afford a car and gotta walk more.

Which is precisely why the extent of machine morality with respect to killing should be THIS:

Machines should be designed not to kill people. If a machine kills someone, it must be by malfunction, human operator error, or human operator consious decision, without exception. A machine that allows the possibility of a second operator using it to kill someone without the first operator's explicit, active consent is wrongfully designed. It is wrong to let a machine posessing lethal force be its own operator.

Of course that isn't profitable enough, so corporations will end up deciding on something much more lax for their codes of machine ethics.

This will happen one day. Some smart dude will hack a car to "eliminate" some other dude for someone else. The smart dude will make a nice fat payday for himself. Think of contract killings. Now the norm is a .22 with a silencer or some type of hard to detect poison. Soon why bother with any of that when you can get the vic's car to do the deed for you?
