Each eNB has only so many finite ressources available, frequency spectrum, time, space.
IoT will add a ton of new devices, making the finite ressources even scarcer.
Since 5g operates in a new frequency spectrum and brings many other improvements, it can handle the expected growth in the number of connected devices.
Right now it is especially deployed in high-density areas to alleviate the congestion caused by a large number of UEs.

5g needs 4g as a fallback for it to be reliable, at least for phones. 4g isn't getting shut down until 5g is.

My complain is shit coverage. And that is a trend because of cost of deployment over user per km2/mile2 on companies bottom line, and i worry that the trend will continue or become worst. Places that already don't have good or any 4g will probably stay like that.

Consider that the 4G spec is supposed to be 1 Gb/s, and US carriers invented LTE so they could continue providing shit coverage while using the 4G name (verizon's "4G" for me is 30 Mb/s down)
5G will never come anywhere close to the speeds it is supposed to run at, and it certainly doesn't help that AT&T rebrands 4G as 5G, thus making consumers think 5G is supposed to be a non-upgrade
There's no way carriers will actually spend the time to put in proper 5G infrastructure - as long as it's just barely faster than 4G, that'll be enough to advertise

God i wish, i get 3mb/s max, on a best case scenario, and 10mb/s is 4ge. I just want better infrastructure on 4g, and we all know that it is enough for 80% of the population. As i am not living in the US, and here the data caps works differently, i am sure a bigger speed, using a deprecated pre existing infrastructure will drive enough people to buy another data package more frequently(youtube and netflix just give higher resolution if you have enough bandwidth and a little portion cares on changing it to a lower res to save data) and thus maintaing the shit that i live in
