Why is this 8 year old processor not obsolete yet?
Why is this 8 year old processor not obsolete yet?
nearly no progress in architecture.
enjoy your electricity bill
It's sort of is, it's already missing some instructions that modern software may require.
Easily overclockable to 4.5GHz with cheap cooler like 212 and still capable for most tasks.
Mine died a few months ago (or the motherboard did I really don't know)
i5 2500k uses 75w at idle and 125w at load
i5 9600k uses 60w at idle and 125w at load
That whole fucking 10w at idle will bankrupt me!!!!!
Why is this 7 year old processor not obsolete yet?
I guess we've hit a point of diminishing returns somewhere around Sandy Bridge.
It's fun to think that even Core 2 Quad can handle modern vidya with somewhat playable FPS.
Damn.. there's even little need to upgrade 1 gen i7 for 60 FPS gaming.
I had this processor since q1 2011 and at this point I might as well see if I can make it last for a decade.
Thanks, I will.
It is though. Try playing BF1 or BFV on it. Stutterfest because of the lack of hyperthreading. 2600/2600K/2700K are not obsolete yet though.
delid dat
1 AAA gayme doesn't mean it's obsolete
>Try playing EA shit on it
Thanks, but no thanks.
meh few games max it out other then that why bother to upgrade
Why is this 6 year old processor not obsolete yet?
Why not just force a new instruction set that's mandatory to run modern software like they did in the 90s?
Why is this 7.5 years old processor already obsolete?
64 bit ought to be enough for anybody
Why is this OC'd 23 month old water cooled processor not obsolete yet?
>:3
who else on socket 775
still on my 3770 non k and i dont feel like upgrading any soon
Muh passmark score! I need it for word!
Yeah it's funny how some people bitch about not being able to run stuff on 10+ years old CPUs. Do you expect new games to be playable on 10 year old GPUs? Not really.
What do you mean "already obsolete"? Was there a point when it wasn't obsolete? Bulldozer was dead on arrival.
I don't think you understand the word "obsolete". It's slow but it still has a modern enough instruction set to run everything you throw at it.
> Was there a point when it wasn't obsolete?
2014-2017.
Buy a Zen 2 and motherboard and RAM later or simply replace my 2500K with a 4C/8T processor for my Socket 1155?
>2014-2017
The FX-8150 come out in 2011. And it was dead on arrival.
What GPU do you have?
Intel has not made any major advances in per-core functionality aside from a marginal raw performance lift. They're banking on 3D to be the next big thing, but who knows until then. Also, DDR3 isn't that much worse at gaming or general use.
Also you can point to processors even older that are technically not obsolete, but that doesn't really mean they are worth using.
And it wasn't in the following years after the so-called "arrival". It's like Q6600 which was released when people were doubting whether Core2Duo is worth it.
It's been 8 years? Shiet sure time does fly
Intel hasn't advanced anything in 8 years.
Most people here don't care about DICE games other than Mirror's Edge or Battlefield 2142 which both run excellent on this.
Strangely enough I feel that the FX 8350 (Vishera / Piledriver) aged better than Sandy Bridge.
better than 478...but man netburst sucks.
Did you seriously just compare the pajeet FX-8150 to the legendary Q6600?
>I feel that Piledriver aged better than Sandy Bridge
GTX 970, which I also consider either replacing or slapping a Morpheus on and squeezing every last hertz out of.
>(Vishera / Piledriver) aged better than Sandy Bridge.
this, without the hardware vulnerabilities as well
If you are certain you are not going to replace the GTX 970, then just upgrade to an i7 that is supported on LGA 1155. If you feel like you're going to want to upgrade to a new GPU, then wait for Zen 2. A Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge i7 will bottleneck GTX 1080 and above.
>people here were recommending effex eight one fifty to unknowing gamers up until the release of ryzen
Thanks for reminding me of the Jow Forums dark ages thread.
>4670k
My fucking nigga.
>tfw the 4690k was released literally three days after building a system with the 70
>unknowing gamers
>gamers
Yeah and they deserved their shitty processor.
He has a point though. 2500k was good and now it's meh at best so it has certainly aged. Piledriver was shit back then and is still shit right now so not much has changed here.
Meh, all i5s from Sandy Bridge to Kaby Lake are pretty much the same. Let alone the difference between the 4670K and 4690K.
Why is my month old leaf milk not obsolete yet?
>75 - 60 = 10
*kills your thread*
Also to add to this: I really don't know what cpu to get now , but damn it I still wish I knew what exactly happened to my i5 . The cpu light goes on so I'm leaning towards that breaking but then those rarely break don't they but if it was the motherboard would the lights still go on? It also isn't the psu I tested with other ones.
nuHitman drops below 60, shit like Farcry 5 is stuttering, also Also, tried emulating Demon Souls last year and it run at like 15 fps.
I'm just waiting for zen2 to replace it.
My m8 I've got 2013 model runs modern games with a 1050 t graphics card
My brother is about to retire his and upgrade finally.
He still really doesn't need to.
What about memory?
With the exception of PCIe3.0 I can make a system with one of those do anything I could get out of a current-gen system, and with the exception of NVMe, PCIe2.0 is fine for most everything.
The difference between DDR3 and DDR4 wasn't that significant, from a user experience perspective.
*gives u great value for money and decent overclocking performance*
Ram seems okay. It doesn't post at all. As I said it goes to the CPU light.
>owning a non-soldered CPU
A whole boring day in the library and you still managed to make me laugh out loud like a retard. Lovely!
Zen 2 most likely won't be a disappointment. I think they're actually going to deliver this time. The Zen 2 8 core is probably clock for clock going to be a bit faster than 9900K.
The 8100 has worse temperatures
Get a 2200G, at least then you get some semblance of graphical processing
In gaming it is. The instant hyperthreading started being used it made the 2600k the superior processor all along. Also 990X and Xeon X5690 gained huge boosts from multicore and HT utilization.
As far as gayman goes it's perfectly fine, cpu bottlenecks though. Good luck running a game and anything else though.
>75 official ranking points vs 90 official ranking points as based on official user ranking criteria
>speed rank 134th vs 85th
I love sites like this; I guess some one has to come up with new jewish tricks when there is a new generation of retards.
It's fine if you think 30 fps 1% min is fine. The lack of hyperthreading is killing it.
Glad I brought some joy to your day user
It will be a disappointment for people who believe in the retarded "leaks"
It was obsolete the day it hit the shelves
one is speed only, the other is an average of many measurements (single core, multicore, value, power consumption, etc)
Good enough for daily shit I use a 6yo low voltage core i3.
still rolling with an i5 3570k
Start bf1 mp and you will see how noz obsolete it is, 2500k fags coping they were too poor for a 2600k
>imagine being this stupid
Running an OCed one of these. (Base clock OC, multiplier was locked).
Still see no reason to upgrade.
who /i7-2600/ here
based smol SFF optiplex
I can only run that CPU at stock speeds (got it second-hand for cheap to run on a H61 motherboard). I only run office tasks and easy-to-run games such as CS:GO. Am I missing out much?
>Start bf1 mp
Nah, I'll stick to Verdun. :^)
>see no reason to upgrade
I bet all you do is browse the internet.
I still use this piece of antique technology.
i love my 2500k tyvm
U can play that shit on a atom, come up with something where performance is needed
I never said the 2500K was bad. 4c/4t CPUs are dead in 2019.
everything by (((Intel))) has been obsolete for almost 2 years now.
This user is right, I'm the guy, and I run Fallout 4, Witcher III and Kingdom Come: Deliverance around 60 FPS with just a basic boost to 2,9 GHz. I am going to finally upgrade in two months time, though.
People laughed at hyperthreading, but now we are the real Chads.
>NVMElet spotted.
Enjoy your old motherboard that doesn't have USB Type C ports. Nor NVME.
Also 4 cores/4 threads is going to be bellow the minimum this year after Ryzen 2 is released.
I'm fast as fuck BOI
>32nm
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What site is this?
everything was posted is by now, if you dont do any gaming.
My 6600k is obsolete when I play apex and watch a yt video or do anything multititasking.
An 8320 can handle any game you throw at it on ultra 1080p 60FPS. Anything higher than that is placeebo tier trash.
it is, my pocophone has more processing power
It will soon. The bottlenecking is starting to hit me hard, even at 4.5GHz
What's the common today equivilant to the 2500k, that's pretty much a good middle ground if you get a new system. Not necessarily "better" or "worse" in a sense comparing to the 2500k, but in the same generation of current amd/intel.
guess what sandy bridge is
userbenchmark.com
see pic related for what this site is good for
XD
why is this low end 13 year old processor not obsolete yet
Wait, hyperthreading actually does something? I thought it was just a gimmick.
it makes your cpu hotter
