x201 cutest thinkpad, also whoever recommended buyee or has used it, am i gonna get raped with postage? i got an x40 on there and when i did the postage calculator it said it would be like 70gbp

might be a bit gross, but if you like the idea you should do it

reposting from last thread

I know this thread is for thinkpads, and mostly older models, but I just checked the lenovo site and saw this
lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-700-series/Ideapad-720S-13-Intel/p/81BV002EUS
>i7-8550U
>3840 x 2160
>1TB ssd
>8gb ram
>$999

is this not an insanely good deal? how is the ideapad's reputation? I was considering a dell xps 13 but this is only $100 more for a lot better specs

Don't listen to this poser, the X200 is better.

Do people assume you're a degenerate weeb if they see you using a thinkpad in 2019?

what are you using your express card slot for?

Attached: iu[1].jpg (474x266, 19K)

external gpu

more USB ports

threadly reminder that lelnovo should have never change the design of the thinkpads past the x201 and only upgrade the specifications.

I fiddle with the slot cover and the eject button

Is it possible for a Thinkpad to be set to automatically hibernate when power is cut, and turn back on when it receives power? If not the hibernation, at least powering on when it is plugged in. (removing CMOS is one way to do this, but then the computer won't actually boot into the OS because it'll want me to set the time and etc.)

My T470 doesn't have an ExpressCard Slot :/

thanks you!!

This is the story of how I got a free Thinkpad on eBay.

>Buy T450s on eBay.
>Thinkpad arrives in the mail today.
>It is a T450 and not a T450s.
>Contact eBay notifying them of the screw up they submit a refund request on my behalf.
>Refund request is instantly accepted and eBay says keep the item.
>toogoodtobetrue.jpeg
>Refund request has been closed so I message the seller to clarify and make sure there are no screw ups. Because I am not a nigger and a thief.
>Seller emails me back that if I don't like the laptop I can send it back and to message him if I plan on sending it back.

The money should hit my paypal tomorrow and now I have a free T450.
The seller is either a moron and doesn't understand the situation or they just don't want to worry about return postage (why I don't know?).

Good, welcome to the future user.

if you were not a nigger and a thief, you would've messaged the seller first and he probably would've given you a reasonable (small) partial discount. Now you just fucked over this guy. Took his Thinkpad and you got no compensation for it.

I'm not exactly sure if that's all you have to do but check out
wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/How_to_read_and_write_in_Japanese
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mozc
if you need help setting up Japanese input.

Cute Kaguya!

stop posting your faggy dolls in our general, you absolute fucking sperg.

Imagine being this unsoft.

hmm... the hirigana/katakana, henken, and muhenken keys don't seem to change the characters (but emacs recognizes them). Do I have to enable those keys to modify those inputs.
don't be jealous of my fumos.

Looks like the seller had an option to ask for it back twice and didn't take it.

user, please never stop posting your cute dolls in our general :)

I said fuck off!

You need to set up input methods for those. I know that with uim you can bind keys to switch input methods so I'd recommend taking a look at wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Input_Japanese_using_uim for those but I'm afraid I don't have any experience using Jap keyboards, I just have it set up for my regular keyboard.

I’m a thinkpad newbie so be gentle. I want a pretty high performing(around dell xps 13) thinkpad but want it to be ”Classic” any helpful suggestions user?

X220

Just get an X1 Carbon user. It will be close to what your XPS 13 is. Ignore the tard like rage scream you will get from TPG about buying a "nupad".

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

no

Let me give it a try

based fumoposter, are you on IRC?

Today someone came in to buy a laptop to replace a 20 year old viao. They were thinking of switch to apple. I sold them a thinkpad.

I feel like I did a good deed. It will last them longer and serve them better,

You are actively fighting the homosexual agenda? You might want to lay low for a while.

#/fumo/ and #cloveros mainly. I haven't checked the wiki in a long while, is #/tpg/ on there or something to that effect?

One of the perks of working for a small business rather than a chain. You can be real with people.

Are there really no options classical thinkpad wise?

You could look at pretty much anything in the X series. X230/240/250 etc. Maybe even something in the T4XXs range.

if you want thin light and high performance then no, t480s or x1 carbon gen 6 or maybe x380 yoga are probably what you're looking for

Anybody have opinions on buying a chinkshit charger?
ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-65w-AC-Adapter-laptop-charger-T420-T410-T430-T520-X200-X220-X230/332561321799

The trackpoint on the t450s is really good. Even the touchpad is okay.
Shame that the keyboard feels so fucking floaty.

>pretty high performing
We're users, not marketers. Ask for a laptop that can provide a certain utility. Define the utility.

>powering on when it is plugged in
You have an option in the BIOS to enable this.

Just spent 30 minutes putting the 'o' key back on.
The little plastic things were fucking me up, but I examined another keyboard, and how they were put down. Feels goooooood. ooooooooooooooooo

anyone else dig the x201(s) touchpad? small but precise, real buttons, comfy for lazy scrolling on the couch with the laptop resting on your chest

Attached: abbab6b1aac5e8d406ac22d9a97c96e1.jpg (701x417, 40K)

>I sold them a thinkpad.
that's a yaiks from me dawg.

Attached: IMG_1490.rotated.jpg (3024x4032, 1.36M)

i don't like it one bit. that's why i replaced it with a trackpadless palmrest

Attached: IMG_1389.jpg (4032x3024, 993K)

my W530s pointer seems to be moving slightly down to the left. Might be because of the keyboard mod I did. I may have to bend the keyboard edge to prevent damage.

Anyone have experience with the T520 hotkey drivers on win10? I've installed it and whenever I hit Fn+F6 my mute mic button stops working.

i sold mine for 40 bucks i feel sad

buy another one user

Been thinking about a T570 build because I want the power of ddr4 and a meatier cpu. Anyone have any experience? Anything like soldered RAM or other dumb shit?

What happened to the desktop thread?

This might be a stupid question but does the 8260AC work with a corebooted X230?

user is correct. x201 is the perfect laptop, if not for issues overheating.
t. posted from x201

customize that conky, fuckin hell

Attached: group-photo.jpg (1200x800, 877K)

yes, x201 touchpad is the best. i have an x220 and had an x260 before, and the x201 trackpad is the best experience of them all

s versions are obviously cuter u fuckin fat asses

super, but i think it would be better to dust it off a bit

usb3

fuck youre a cunt

shouldnt have immediately opened a fucking case without contacting the seller first

no, part of the reason i bought an x200s is because it has no trackpad

why are you recommending proprietary closed-source non-free botnet wifi cards? ath9k and mt7612 are the only acceptable options

x200s is better than x201. the perfect laptop does not have a 1280x800 res lcd

How much can I expect to pay for a T420? I'm only having luck finding some with a bios issue

Upgraded chinkpads (X210, X62, T70)
Really hard to get though
Check the forum link in the OP

>get thinkpad
>install windows 2000

Bro you got pubes all over your keyboard

T440s/T450s still best thinkpad

t430/x230 and older are too thick/heavy/loud/hot/poor battery life for modern usage.

Stop being poor

Attached: tpg.jpg (2660x4182, 1.15M)

I mean I've got an x60/x201/t430 but they just aren't worth using for ANYTHING.

They only make cool toys for beta virgins.

Attached: mee.png (194x259, 74K)

> T440s/T450s still best thinkpad
Better than T480/s?

>thick/heavy
I bet you can't even open a bottle of onions with your bare hands.
>loud
Not too loud, anyway can't be heard with headphones on.
>hot
Change thermal paste.
>poor battery life
Buy 9-cell battery.

For the price? 100% better

Im going to buy a t480s in 12 months for $250-$300

How do you use a laptop without 1080p and an IPS display?

Why do you think I wouldn't swap display?

take a new photo

Attached: 1521025849480.png (300x300, 106K)

those keys work out of box on osx if you hackintosh so i imagine you have to configure them in linux desu

T430 can only have 1080 ips if using a chink converter which is of low quality.

It will, but as another user said,
>why are you recommending proprietary closed-source non-free botnet wifi cards? ath9k and mt7612 are the only acceptable options

As somebody that owns both a t430 and a t440s

T440s is a much better buy for many reasons.

Attached: idab.jpg (1280x720, 161K)

Don't listen to this poser, her socks aren't even striped

Attached: 1552552636094417.jpg (1740x2320, 2.76M)

and if you need more performance than a t440s offers get the t440p

no reason to ever get t430 or older

T430 is probably the best thinkpad you can get in terms of performance. stick in a 3940XM on it.

Anyone know a good place to get a used p50? Like some business getting rid of all their old units?

Nope because you can stick the same in a t440p that can actually properly cool it.

A t430 will overheat, there are many many examples of this.

A t430 also requires a cheap chink converter for 1080 ips that many report to fail after 3-4 months.

A t430 is a direct downgrade compared to a t440p

Attached: 6RmYHsM.webm (534x854, 931K)

It's pretty nice. Modern laptop builders want you to believe that you need massive touchpads to actually be comfortable, but the truth is that you need special configuration on those giant touchpads to not mess with them while typing. What a joke of design. Meanwhile the old laptop touchpad just works

What about quad-core W530?

ive had my t440p for like a week or so and i really enjoy it this far, im glad i came across Jow Forums before buying a laptop. kde runs really well on it too

usb 3.0

HELL YA brother

T440p is currently the best all around thinkpad to buy. Just make sure to swap the trackpad.

T440s if you dont need the extra performance

w530 > t430 100%

t430 posters are poor incels

Anybody have w530 with a coreboot on it? How well does it work? Any significant problems with it? I'm thinking about buying one, but I would like to coreboot it it and run me_cleaner on it. Also is switchable graphic possible with coreboot and nouveau?
