how will I cope??!?!???

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Its not a thinkpad

Get out

its a cheap cheap plastic waste of money

you should have nothing but buyers remorse

LOL

look at this idiot

I've bought t450s week ago and installed linux. Any tips how to tune tlp to improve battery life? I've set it to charge only to 90% but tlpstat shows me both internal and external battery degraded to 3/4 of its original capacity, so should I just set charge to 100% and not bother?

If price isn't really a concern I'd go for the T440p out of those with a trackpad swap if you're looking for the best one specs wise, it weighs about the same as the T430.
If you want a smaller and lighter one, go for the X230.

Set it to 80% and unplug your battery whenever you're using it with an AC adapter attached and not charging the battery.

Let's say money is not an issue.

T480 or P52?

I have a T41 and it's pretty slow when using a modern OS. is freedos a nice OS for it?

Thanks for your thoughts, senpai. Does the T440p have a similar battery life as the T430/X230?

is unplugging necessary? The internal battery seems to be in same shape and it ran 3-4 years under win8

mean T590 or P52

so do we just ignore that fact that Intel CPUs have security flaws when considering Thinkpads? I'm not memeing and sincerely asking. Because I'm about to pull the trigger on a Thinkpad A485 that comes out to around $865. I was wondering if I should get the T480 instead seeing as they're the same chassis, just intel vs AMD.

The AMD model also has a realtek based LAN porn and I'm not sure how thrilled I am about that.

Anybody have w530 with a coreboot on it? How well does it work? Any significant problems with it? I'm thinking about buying one, but I would like to coreboot it it and run me_cleaner on it. Also is switchable graphic possible with coreboot and nouveau?

Nice reddit spacing my underage friend! You're going straight into my filter list!

What are you going to use it for?

X230 w/ 9-cell gets about ~8 hours when web surfing/koding/other basic uni stuff.
T440p w/ 9-cell should get 10+.
T430 I don't know.

No point keeping it in if you're just running off AC anyway.

x230 or x250 are the real answers.

why

x201 cutest thinkpad, x200 is supposedly good too, dont get the x220 it has a 16:9 screen and no latch, it's worth getting for a hackintosh but if you aren't doing that get one of the others

Attached: 1551692915619897.jpg (1740x2320, 2.79M)

Oh then it depends if you need the eggsra dime you get with the additional 10%. If you do then just charge it to 100%.
In terms of optimizing tlp, well you can go through the settings but it comes with a power-optimized config out of the box so it's not really necessary.

These EU ebay sellers are a bunch of hardasses, goddamn. A standard hdd/4gb ram T440p with dents on both corners of the palm rest and a crack on one of the lid covers and they're still asking 180 euro plus shipping.

dont go buy it now go on auctions and just try get a good deal will take a week or two probably but you're better off that way

because he's salty he can't buy new so then settles for a cum encrusted, smoke/dust filled model that's 9+ years old.

I've been looking at the auctions, but I don't know if I just undervalue tp's or people overvalue them. I was following an auction for a T430 with hdd/4gb ram, and the final bid was nearly 160 euro.
There's a guy on our local craigslist variant that's selling a X240 with 8gb ram and a 256 ssd for 220 euro, but that's a bit over the budget I set out for myself, and I'm worried the X series might be too small. I've never been able to see one in person though, so I might be worrying about nothing.

>tpg
>discord

theyre definitely over valued in europe and the uk so expect to pay quite a bit more than burgers in here get them for. x240s are going quite cheap at the moment i wouldn't suggest spending more than like 150gbp for one

ok thanks

God fucking damnit. All the reviews I'm reading on the A485 has it being a piece of shit because of bad BIOS. Thermals are fine, as is voltage, but Lenovo has their BIOS thermal throttle limit set super low so the cores all downclock themselves prematurely. FUCK. Do I buy a new T480? Do I buy a T440p? Do I just abandon thinkpads and get something else entirely?

>i wouldn't suggest spending more than like 150gbp for one
Is that with 4gb/hdd, or 8gb/ssd?

Dell Precision M4800?
or
Thinkpad W540?

X230 with X220 keyboard and 1440p IPS display mod

I'm and got impatient waiting for an answer. I got
>Dell Precision M4800
>Core i7-4810MQ
>Nvidia Quadro K2100M 2GB
>16GB DDR3-1600MHz
>OEM battery
>500GB HDD
>180w AC adapter
All in all I spent $411 for it all. I already have a Samsuung 850 EVO 250GB SSD from an old build waiting to be used as a main drive. How did I do?

please keep your pedo shit to yourself user

Attached: D0UJQ58UYAApo5f.jpg (425x290, 40K)

Not bad, I have a W540 myself, got it on eBay for $300 USD.

>i7 4800MQ
>8GB DDR3 1600MHz
>K1100M 2GB
>240GB SSD
>Shit battery that lasts maybe 40 minutes
I was going to answer but I honestly couldn't tell you which one to go for, since they're so similar. IIRC the Dell has an MXM slot though, so that gives you options to upgrade later down the road.

Dell M6800 has MXM but sharp corners on the palmrest
W540/1 has muh ThinkPad aesthetic.

I was looking at the W540, but every single one I found under $600 was straight garbage. Dented/scuffed to fuck panels. Sticky residue all over, missing keys, no battery/OS/HDD. All the Precision M4800's were near pristine.

Is the user who installed those external antennas into his X200 browsing here? Respond with a pic if you are him!!

What's the Dell competitor to the P50 called?

Precision

Overused joke but I got a giggle out of it

Where can I get a reasonably priced X220 in the UK bros?
They go for £200 refurbished on Amazon, seems a bit steep.
I just want a solid foundation to upgrade, I'm not bothered about storage because I'll use my own SSD.
Also are the CPUs socketed? Will I be able to buy a compatible i7 separately and put it in?

nevermind I'm retarded; I didn't look at the laptop screen because I always mirror my screen when I'm projecting, never expanding it

just go to the dell website and take a look. They offer 1.56" and 17.1" models.

looks comfy as hell

I said competitor to the P50. ie the one with Skylake that came out in 2016. Discontinued model. What are they?

Pretty nice.

P50 ah fuck.. idk whatever 5th gen systems dell had out...
Dell went full retard on their number schemes, so every fucking number is confusing as fuck
3xxx Series - Budget - Like Vostro
5xxx Series - Business - Like in between E5xxx and E6xxx
7xxx Series - High End - Slimmer than E6xxx models

So i THINK their second numbers mean the screen size or class type
x4xx would be 14"
x5xx would be 15"
x7xx would be 17

So then the Precision 7510 would be the "top of the line one" and maybe the 5510 would be one to consider too, that has less stuff in it. I think, Dell blended their models to a confusing way to which I stopped keeping up with them.

thanks, tripfag!

What map is that OP?

Getting warmer... Hurry up and upgrade to a X200. I wish I could say the motherboard is a drop-in replacement on a X201chassis, but I would be lying. Everything else is pretty much interchangeable.

Hey! Any recommendations for fixing Thinkpad plastics? I just got some jb-weld in black that I'm trying on some small palmrest cracks, seems like it will work out alright.

Dell Precision M5510. To be honest though, the Skylake based Precisions kind of suck. They don't have the robust build quality of older models imo.

It's a X200 with a X201's head. X201's have guaranteed LED backlit panels.

negro you just buy a new display like $30, and get the AFFS mod

I already had multiple X201s, why would I waste them? I also have three AFFS panels. They're dogshit and either fall apart after a few months of use (Dead pixels, white gashes, dying backlight), or come dead from being already heavily used.

Oh my god someone hold me I'm about to get a t440p oh god oh fuck

Awoo!
Sorry I dont have any recommendations. I haven't fixed cracks on my thinkpads other than covering it up with vinyl wrap or crazy glue.

Haven't came across a new one, but what can you do, all laptops are going ultrabooky other than gaymur stuff.

I don't know anything about laptops. Parents want to buy a new laptop (nothing second hand). Are the new thinkpads worth it?

What isn't a shit laptop under $1500

>1440p ips
got a link?

i dont get it

How does trackpads works on linux? I only saw windows drivers for it.

1440x900 all have guaranteed led backlight
at any rate you should not have it say x201 if its really an x200

>having to seek out drivers
must suck to be a windows user

>(nothing second hand)
That's a shame.
>Are the new thinkpads worth it?
Buying thinkpads new is not worth it and I'm not sure on the pricing but take a look at the T480 and X1C5. I guess some of the new Yogas might be worth taking a look at but I know absolutely nothing about those.

Linux distros come with drivers preinstalled or you can install them from their repos.

Thankfully that's easy for thinkpads but yeah windows users don't have it easy if they need to find drivers for older laptops.

install gentoo

new thinkpads are still pretty good, it's hard to give a good suggestion without you telling us what's important in a laptop for you
battery life, performance and portability always come at expense of each other but something like T480 balances all three of them pretty well

T480s will probably be up your alley.
A485 if you want to save some dosh with a slightly less performing AMD CPU.

Avoid E Series ThinkPads, 11e and... I think those ones if you're buying new.

Remember ThinkPad, not Legion, not IdeaPad or Lenovo G Series, these are consumer build quality laptops that are far different than a ThinkPad when it comes to build quality. Also try not tot confuse the Lenovo Yoga with the ThinkPad Yoga, Lenovo markets any 2 in 1 tablet convertible laptop as a Yoga.

Is that windows 10 on the back you fucking asshole? I hope you fucking die, I hate you more than I hate my mom.

Good god she's the kind of cute I don't even understand but is really powerful over me.

You called?

Attached: IMAG2020.jpg (5376x3024, 3.38M)

for all these 'admin locked' listing on ebays, can I just replace the motherboard?

flash coreboot fag

Does that work? I think the bios lock is stored elsewhere, I'm not sure.

Will an X220t LCD work on an X230t?

It's stored on the bios chip. So yes, either replacing bios with coreboot/libreboot (if your board is supported) will fix it, or replacing the motherboard itself.
