Student who studies what?
What do you need?

Math (I use emacs for almost everything though)

Dell xps 13, best laptop for every Linux distro

Honestly get somthing small and portable. Anyone who suggest a big power laptop has never had to carry one around in a backpack all day.

>(running arch linux)
>a new laptop
Never do this. Linux support is always shit for any new laptop for the 1st year because of proprietary drivers for wifi, bluetooth, power, etc that need to be worked out.

Sole exceptions is something like XPS developer edition with linux preinstalled, but even then, it's only for Udindu.

I really
really
really hate this retarded dancing nigger
I don't know what it is that pisses me off so much

>thinkpad X220
>16 gig ram
>ssd
>/tpg

Won't cost more than $300.

>new
>linux
get a 2+ year old laptop or tolerate windows for 2 years

Thinkpad, but get a newer one

Absolutely DO NOT fucking get a ThinkPad, especially the E485 or 585. They have a firmware bug that stops Linux from booting. I managed to get Ubuntu running after an ungodly amount of googling and testing, but Arch and Debian just wouldn't work.

Linux installed fine in my T470s

I got bad news for you, user.

Your professors are going to mandate software that is only going to run on windows.

True.
Which is why I run a Windows 10 VM in QEMU.
Good enough for some .NET shit in VS or light photoshop.

Just compile .NET Core from source

swift 3

take x230
don't listen to x220 suggestions

>E-series
Yeah absolutely do not get a E-series thinkpad.

Thinkpad t470. Fingerprint works on arch. Always check the archwiki for make and model. I'm gonna get an egpu enclosure to dualboot windows and play some games. Last time I tried installing arch on a Dell laptop fingerprint didn't work.

If you study math, you don't need a laptop. Just paper and pencil

>I got linux working but linux wouldn't work
People who've never compiled their kernel are funny sometimes

Thinkpad, dell xps, system76, asus zenbook, xiaomi arent bad from what I've seen but chink...

It depends what do you do?
