Shit like this is why people are becoming more technology illiterate.

Exactly.

In fairness you can blame MS for that when they made breadcrumbs the default in Vista. Everybody else was just bandwagoning cuz they figured if they were going to win users over from Windows then the experience had to be "familiar".

Linux is the name of the kernel that Linus Torvalds developed starting in 1991. The operating system in which Linux is used is basically GNU with Linux added. To call the whole system “Linux” is both unfair and confusing. Please call the complete system GNU/Linux, both to give the GNU Project credit and to distinguish the whole system from the kernel alone.

>tries to steal credit from the guy who actually created a functioning product

I find the plus sign more logical than slash. It's made from two parts so it's GNU+Linux or Linux+GNU. Actually if the format Linux+GNU would be pushed more then people might use it. They are already starting by saying "Linux" so it would be possible to add it later after remembering that it should also be mentioned. "Linux... plus GNU". It's logical and practical so if the credit REALLY is attempted to share instead of hog it, this order makes sense.
