Last time I checked, they were stagnating or even declining, worse than the old steady economies in Europe, the USA, etc. Japan still has various key products, and they're not bad at a lot of tasks.

China and maybe other places are taking that business. Shenzen is doing really well, as are doing other areas in China.

Obligatory not japanese, but from what I've heard from a multilingual resident, japan's pretty far behind. Most office work is done pen and paper. As are homework assignments, including essays, so kids never get a chance to use basic things most people should know how to do, like Word or any equivalent. Computers they do have in their schools are dinosaurs running windows 98. Not exactly good for the tech industry. By the time those kids get to college, they're as tech literate as your average boomer.

If you look into that, you'd realize how things are actually Japanese products in the disguise of some Asian countries, manufactured by cutting edge Japanese machines and robots, with top grade Japanese intermediate materials and stuff essential for top quality products. And these are all BtoB stuff.

I have been to the Guangdong Museum when they had a landscape painting exhibit. Some of the paintings of incredibly were "autistically detailed" and are some of the greatest pieces of art I've ever seen. The things about Chinese painting, however, is that they follow certain rules and the creativity and expression is in the subject matter (as long as it still is naturalistic), an individual's stylistic differences, and subversion of expectations. Unless you do the "modern art gallery gaze," it can be hard tell the differences. Art movements in Chinese painting are hard to distinguish to an outsider in the same way.
Japanese art suffers from the same rules and patterns. However it varies drastically from period to period and provides more freedom in depicting differences, from court life to the peasant lifestyle, just like European artwork.
A terrible example would be Wuxia and The Tale of Genji. Chinese writing is filled with nearly identical Wuxia stories while Japan liked to steal bits and pieces from The Tale of Genji and use them in a fundamentally different manners and extend them philosophically.
