Said he in a video he wakes up eveey day and smokes a cigar and drinks an ice coffee. What a faggot. Also muzzies deserve to die

no i wont change your mind because then more r/unixporn basedboy faggots will hop on the bandwagon and ruin the fanbase

>Said he in a video
What are you even trying to say?

t. ubuntu user

>arch = legos

when I was young erector sets was what autists played with

Your point being?

Gentoo actually has its uses, while Arch is just a mediocre generic distro with nothing that sets it apart from others except for horrible quality control and lack of split packages.

definately

Ha you know

based and oldschooled

Archs target audience is pretty different from gentoos.
Arch targets the retard who thinks he's badass for doing things manually that other distros do automatically and who completely ignores that arch gives him much less freedom than say debian or even ubuntu would. Arch's only upside is the AUR but you might forget about it anyway since it's quantity over quality by design and most things in it are of very low quality and basically don't work.

Gentoo targets the person who actually does care about a custom system (beyond ricing the GUI with the latest fad meme wm) and who wants to have a system that just werks but at the same time have the option to install the latest unstable packages and patch packages extremely easily compared to other distros.

Gentoo is essentially what you want it to be, while Arch becomes what it's handful of developers think means the least work.

nixos is better than them both

That you're autistic. How could you not get that?

>systemd distro
>better than jen2

I stand corrected...

Arch can't do this.

NixOS is too enlightened for Jow Forums

They'd rather spend all day editing /etc files

Sorry, must be the autism.

hey, I've seen you around before.
Just out of curiosity, why do you run Slack?
I used and liked it for a while, but ultimately saw no clear advantages over more convenient distros

retarded systemdicked instable bloatware.

if you have no life install gentoo
if you have a life install void
if you dont like to suck CoCs install openbsd
or wait for reactos / haiku to become somewhat relevant.
other things are just botnetted poetterware and should not be used.

damn that kernel must be thin

Wrong

Ill admit netflix wont play on firefox and if you have an optimus gpu you are fucked, but i like the fact that it does not have systemd and it is very stable. My battery life is pretty long and the only thing that i use this computer for is editing latex documents, skyping, and libre office. Manually installing all the dependencies does get pretty time consuming but I like the stability and simplicity of it. if it wasnt for slackware i would be on debian

OK, understandable.
what are your thoughts on Gentoo?

i havent used it. that aside i think that if you want to be a true linnicks mastur then arch is the reddit basedboy choice. If you want a fully customizable distribution you should man up and install gentoo unironically. Arch is honestly such a faggot distro. their userbase is gay as fuck and the distro is gay as fuck. i dont have the time for gentoo but if i had the know how and the time i would install it because it seems pretty good from what i hear.

yeah, I'm running Gentoo currently.
Arch was my first distro because I wanted to be l33t, but then I realized how shit the community/philosophy was and ditched it.

just for the fact that it cucks users into systemd, arch should be avoided purely on principle

The chad gentoo user:
>wants application so he lets portage automatically compile and install it, maybe from another repo
The normalfag *buntu user:
>wants application so he adds another repo and just installs it
The autistic Arch user:
>wants application but it's not in the tiny main repo
>some random dude has uploaded a build script for the application onto AUR some years ago, but of course it's not maintained any more because that program is not useful for ricing, which is what arch users care the most about
>Arch user wastes time reading and understanding the build script for the package and it's dependencies (because there could be anything in it since anyone can upload them lol)
>Arch user has to manually fix PKGBUILD scripts for the newest versions of the program
>Arch user has to compile the program just like on gentoo
>Arch user has to manually update said programs and dependencies.

Arch allows easy tailoring outside of the base system (which includes systemd, a negative for some), great number of officially supported packages complemented by AUR which basically covers everything you might want.

Gentoo allows tailoring of the entire system, but it's not easy, and you need to spend a lot of time compiling as opposed to a binary distribution like Arch, on the other hand you will get a system perfectly tailored to your needs and likely as efficient as it can be on your machine.

It's all a matter of preference.

>but it's not easy
t. never used gentoo

based and redpilled

@70196406
>it's not easy
Maybe for a literal subhuman who loves r*ddit-spacing.

Based and checked
I was friends with a kid with the erector set rollercoaster, was a total fucking autist

word

People get so hung up on the compiling aspect, as if that's all you ever do with Gentoo, just compiling away 24/7.
Oh, it's too difficult. Ohh, it takes too much time.
Grow an attention span and read, it's maybe a project for a slow weekend at worst. Not a bad tradeoff for a system that you've optimized and customized to be completely your own.

>79MiB / 871 MiB
>745 packages
>IceWM
my wangblows 10 PC MSATER RACE install draws more ram idle than your PC has, its time to upgrade laptop poorfag lmao!!!

>if you have a life install void
This seems counterproductive. It's still based on arch and breaks all the time, like manjaro.

>It's still based on arch
Um.

systemd

Let's be honest, there's a lot of programs not in any overlays so I have to do this anyways.

Is there a single non-shit distro which isn't gentoo? I need something for my slow laptop and neither parabola nor void install properly on LVM due to being buggy garbage. I would try GuixSD if it had software, qtwebengine specifically.

You see this guy here? He's a retard.
Nobody listen to this retard.

install funtoo

gentoo liveCD was easy to install on vmware, what's the big deal? I want to do it the hard way.

>wants application but it's not in the tiny main repo
LOL, compared to Gentoo, Arch is absolutely stacked. The official Arch repos (core, extra, community) cover 99% of what users need, meanwhile Gentoo hardly has maintainers to update their core packages, making it a lagging distro these days, and it's only getting worse.

more power to you. my philosophy is that if you want to be l33t you might as well go straight for gentoo because arch is for fags

>(because there could be anything in it since anyone can upload them lol)

Go home pajeet, you're drunk

>Is there a single non-shit distro which isn't gentoo?
not that I'm aware of
>something for my slow laptop
what processor does it have?
the compile times shouldn't be that bad even if it's like a core 2 duo or something, as long as you update once a week or two
if you're concerned about it getting too hot, just downscale the CPU frequency I suppose
or you can cross compile if you have a desktop at hand

Some dual-core celeron and 2GB of memory, llvm takes an eternity to compile and can freeze up the entire system. I guess I should try recompiling with -j1 and then set up distcc when I have a working system, I've tried using distcc before from the livecd but it didn't work out too well.

if compiling is really that much of a hassle then try void

It's not that it's a hassle, it's that my laptop is too shit for compiling heavy packages. I use gentoo as my main system already so I'm probably going to wait a day for llvm to compile and set up distcc.
>void
Tried it already and found out that it has some retarded bug where you can't install grub when using LVM.

Arch and Gentoo have basically nothing in common.

I use antergos because It just werks

He also said the guy didn't know what he was talking about and wasn't a part of any conservative group. So I guess it's conservative to be an islamophile now.

Itt: arguing about which dying distro is better

funny. I don't see Arch being used in mainstream devices all over the world. Gentoo is on more machines than Arch will ever be.

why are you using xterm?

I don't feel like changing your mind because I don't care what you think.
