What’s the best toslink optical -> 3.5mm headphone amp setup for under $100 total?
My headphones are Sennheiser 569. I’m not too picky about distortion etc but I can’t stand idle noise.

whats you listening with user?

Redpill on STAX for newbies: STAX is an old Jap company with outdated tech that was considered high end back in the 1960s and 1970s but sounds like ass by today's standards, so they went nearly bankrupt. They were purchased by a Chinese company for just a million dollars who decided to market STAX to the audiophool "more expensive is better" demographic who buys those crappy $3000 vinyl players, they shill heavily on HeadFi and here on /hpg/, plus they pay Zeos to shill their crap just like Fostex does.

>In December 2011, Chinese loudspeaker manufacturer Edifier announced the acquisition of 100% equity in Stax

Oratory has measured the highest end STAX, the SR-009S.

dropbox.com/s/dm0m6u3s3b4zqzl/Sennheiser HD600.pdf?dl=0

It's worse than the HD600. HD600 scored 92 and SR-009S scored 76.

Recently Rtings rated STAX across various dimension, it's worse in terms of sound than mid-priced offerings from Hifiman and Audeze, and only got a 7.7 rating.

To add insult to overpriced injury, they have shitty plastic build quality that you would expect on cheap chinkshit headphones:

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi. This is why they don't demo them in store, they rely on the internet to create a sense of mystique around STAX and shill it as the endgame because its expensive, Asian, rare and obscure. In reality its no bass sounding garbage, with shrill highs that appeal only to near-deaf boomer. And what they say is true, they have no soundstage.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good pair of wireless IEMs?
I'm starting to get annoyed at tugging the wires of my current sennheisers when walking and having to tuck the wire below my shirt etc.

Are wireless earbuds good yet?
I'm looking for something that would cost 150€at most, I can stretch the limit a bit if there is a really good pair for a bit more though.
I listen to a lot of varied music, so I appreciate clarity.
Current IEMs are a pair of Sennheiser CX 3.00 which have very punchy bass, but aren't ideal otherwise. I do like the sound they produce however.
Looking for "true" wireless mainly, so no connecting neck wire if possible.

have a look at sennheiser TWS, jabra elite, sony wf1000..and airpods

Would love to buy the Sennheisers, but they are 300€ which is more than my headphones.

For me Jabra is just some company that makes sports gadgets or those shitty bluetooth hands-free hings for phones. Is the sound quality good though? I've seen the Jabra Elites mentioned frequently but I don't really trust them for the reasons mentioned above.
Those Sony earbuds look like a great option though.

I'm wondering how the 3100-system will compare to my Focal Elear? Both in tonality and overall quality. I feel like the Elears are pretty much end-game for me when it comes to "normal headphones", so I'm interested in electrostats.

L300 vs utopia. after seal mod they will be flat down to 3-5hz. tldr just get stax

Attached: 1548540080569.png (573x578, 113K)

You are asking dynamic vs estats.. I believe, estats will win this fight.

Stax sound like shit though

If you've never heard the unique estat sound presentation before, it'll be very be very hard to give you the proper impression through words alone.

Actually even the best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi cans. Read Electrostatic headphones is just another audiophool meme

Recently was presentented to a Stax setup for the first time. What the fuck! It was some kind of revelation, like a veil was lifted from my musical experience. I generally listen to quite dynamic music. Suddenly the dynamic range seemed coherent. The "stax image" did not have any problem of creating an airy, natural representation of the dynamic range of the music I listened to. I was stunned. I understand that my description is very anecdotal, but that is the way I listen to music. The setup giving me this Stax revelation was L700 with srm-353x. But, by long experience from the headphone world, I have a feeling I would have felt the same with L300.

I've heard almost all current Stax models and they all sound pretty bad. I don't know if the problem is with all electrostatic drivers or just Stax can't make anything decent with them.

lol nice try

No seriously, the things they do well, they do extremely well. Detail retrieval, resolution, transparency, and very precise imaging, all in a different league compared to dynamics/planars.

>no subbass
>+5 db @ 15khz
>worse soundstage

I mean I guess stax???????

Attached: ESP950--L300.png (1248x1556, 163K)

Getting a good seal is very important with L300.
One you have it, it's audio bliss.

Not in my experience. In blind tests with trained listeners Stax were rated lower than some mid-fi AKGs too. And they used SR-009, imagine how bad Stax lower-end models would perform.

How would you say the L300 stack up against the HD650? What I love about the HD650 is how inoffensive it is to my ears - all my other headphones can be a bit fatiguing in one way or another. The HD650 is just sillky smooth. I am hoping for something similar or better in the L300. What do you think ? General SQ comparison would be very much appreciated.

I have HD600, and it's a complete opposite of L300. L300's standout features are hyper clarity and very extended and detailed treble. You can make it smoother and warmer by installing L700 pads, but it's still so different from HD600, that I wouldn't recommend you to buy L300 without auditioning it first.

The nice thing about the HD 650 is that pretty much any recording sounds good on it. It's close to neutral, but on the slightly warm and dark side. Good clarity but not overbearing. As far as high-end audiophile headphones go, it has a "normal" level of performance, but doesn't commit the blunders that are common with so many headphones that are clearly better but with compromises.

I think STAX in general (and particularly the L300) is higher performance. There's something about electrostats that give them a certain magical transparency I have not encountered in other headphones. The lightness of the diaphragm along with other aspects of the technology give it very low distortion and rapid transient speed.

The Lambda series are more linear than nearly all other headphones (as evidenced by frequency sweeps and measurements) but, as with any headphone, still have deviations. The most prominent peaks are in the 7-10 kHz range. This is beyond the presence region and much less of a problem than if the peaks were around 3-6 kHz, which is not uncommon in dynamic drivers. Since they're already so neutral, it's not difficult to equalize them.

Both the L300 and HD 650 have some roll-off in the sub-bass measurements, but thankfully, this was not an issue for me during listening. I realized that they could extend deeper than the measurements suggested, and I could hear all the bass just fine with nearly all music. They also have moderate bass humps, so with most music, they come off as more slightly bass-heavy than slightly bass-light. You can always fill in the deepest gaps and trim down the humps with EQ. (Just be sure to reduce the gain in your player by at least the amount of your largest boost/cut to avoid distortion.)

HD650 is just in another league, I would compare L500 to HD518. Stax have pretty bad build quality too and their pads are very uncomfortable. I don't see any point in buying Stax except of being technophile who wants some electrostatic memes. At least they are not as bad as electrostatic speakers.

Why are you copypasting head-fi junk itt schizo?
head-fi.org/threads/stax-sr-l300-impressions-thread.813511/page-23

i am convinced that stax are the bass cannons of the audiophile world - they are tuned to over-emphasise treble in a way that is not neutral but the user likes nonetheless. AKA they are beats by dre.

how did you convince yourself into believing retarded shit

My Logitech G230 seems to be showing its age and I am potentially looking for a replacement.

I do have a question, what is the difference between G231 Logitech and the G233 Logitech? I know G233 Logitech is more expensive by a bit but I am not sure whether that additional cost is worth of it

because stax are consistently +5 to +10 db above the HD800S in the 10khz+ range, and other headphones also

oh i see you're a graph mysticist
makes sense

L300 are strictly superior in every way.

>The HD650 is just sillky smooth
The treble is screwed down to cope with the usual dynamic issues. Lambdas are superordinately smoother even with a much brighter presentation.

>this nigga

Attached: 1531493734766.png (222x293, 148K)

why does the samefagging nostax incel keep replying to himself?

But stax sound like shit, its a fact

231 is essentially the same as the 230
233 is just part of the newer line up.

Honestly if you were happy with the 230's sound and comfort get the 231 or just buy another 230. I doubt the 233's are much of an improvment in terms of sound plus you risk buying a more uncomfortable headphone.

Even electrostatic speakers still have a conventional dynamic driver in them because otherwise they'd have no fucking bass. Like Stax.

>t. triggered nostax incel

>mosquito flys in it
>zzzzzap
>speakers ruined forever
this is the power of electrostatic huh

How do you even keep those dust free? At least Stax you can put a cover on.

speakers have no fucking bass in general

shhhh

If you have $80,000 to spend on a pair of Martin Logans, you don't care if they fry and keeping them dust free is for the help.

> I have never gone outside in my life

at least you don’t have to worry about anyone taking your shitcans

kek this man is just a little upset. who hurt you as a child. is there a reason you have to insult others belongings just because you cant afford it?

Did you prioritize buying meme headphones over having your own place?

it's a condition known as nostax yottacelia. Unfortunately it is terminal

Actually there is little point in buying a new headphone when my old one still works perfectly fine right? I was indeed considering a G231 or G233 but then I realize that aside from some bit of peeling, my old G230 still works fine. Though I was thinking of buying a carrying case at least since the peeling is partly because of improper storage during travel

dont worry I have speakers as well thats why I have an amp under my monitor and nah I'm set to inherit this house once my Great grandfather passes away i live with him to make sure he doesnt fall down and lay on the floor for 2-3 days before someone hurts him

Let gramps steal your hot sauce, then, you miser.

kek

Anyone else had the headphones going on and off since the last windows update?
