Make something better.

Jow Forums btfo'd

IRC.

Get people to switch to Matrix.

Already was done in the 1800s when the telephone was invented. The thing in OP is a huge step back

Provide a better open-source alternative.

Tell normalfags to fuck off from the Internet.

What's so bad about it to the everyday user who doesn't participate in raids, or illegal content, and doesn't give a flying fuck about what the admins do with their platform otherwise?

This.
Proprietary.

Don't need to.

It's fake, faggot.

This kills the discord.

>being this delusional

Matrix/Riot is alright though

No voice chat, people won't switch.

Good idea, but how easy is it for the average person to set up and run their own server? Keep in mind the one freedom FOSS software frequently overlooks: free time.

>not worshipping the botnet is delusional

>how easy is it for the average person to set up and run their own server?
Assuming they're half competent, not very. From easiest to somewhat easy:
- using Ansible to deploy on Docker (edit some config and run script, done)
- manually deploying Docker image (mainly requires you to know the basics of Docker, rest is trivial)
- installing Synapse packages on your host OS and running them as normal service (the usual server config stuff; main extra effort compared to e.g. Mumble is setting up your reverse proxy and certificates properly)
None of these should take more than an hour or two at most, if you are thorough. It's not like you really *need* your own server with E2E encryption being a thing anyway.

>find me something better than discord
>tell microsoft to revert every single stupid change to skype
>put some actual good features

but
>this will never happen
>discord is even lighter than skype
>no alternative FOSS
>foss equals to discord are a mess
>the majority of the people want something simple
>foss cant provide that

???

proof it

What's wrong with this website?

If people wanted something truly simple they'd just use IRC for text chat. Discord is already a bloated fucking mess with all its voice chat shit and gaming tie-in functions.

That's not how burden of proof works, retard. It's up to you to link the original tweet.

it literally takes 10 seconds to go to their twitter and see that they didn't post it

Why is development of Riot Dendrite so dead?

If you don't like it or the communities, just don't join it or use it? Seems simple enough.

Mostly a combination of a push towards Matrix 1.0 being released (we're almost there, just a little bit longer) shifting focus of getting a stable version of Synapse out and the aftermaths of the funding crisis last year which, among other things, made the lead Dendrite dev leave.
Development of rewrites like Dendrite and RiotX will likely go somewhat faster once Matrix 1.0 is out. Meanwhile, Synapse is kinda fast enough to handle small to medium-sized servers; just don't try to centralize tens of thousands of users on one server.

It's centralized around the reference server whose spec they can alter nilly willy and Riot is tied to its central identity server. ((Decentralized)) is but an illusion.

>It's centralized around the reference server whose spec they can alter nilly willy
Wrong. The spec is independent from Synapse and it's soon going to be stable, so it's not implementation-defined.
>Riot is tied to its central identity server
Also wrong. You can easily host your own mxisd and configure Riot (either your own copy or the one hosted on riot.im/app/) to talk to it. Also the identity server is only relevant for 3PID mapping; if you use MXIDs instead of emails/phone numbers/…, you don't even need it.

What would you want from a better discord? Self hosted servers? Open source?

Oh, and even if it was implementation-defined by Synapse, it'd still be decentralized/federated since it's not dependent on a central install of it. You can exclude the matrix.org homeserver from your federation and you can continue using the service just fine with anyone not on it.

-free software
-self hostable servers
-no spying
-no paying for "fun" like animated emotes
-open, well-documented protocol so users of other IM clients can message you (discord is notorious for changing its shit so you cannot use anything but the official clients to chat on it). This also means it can have CLI client, native code client not a meme.js crap, standalone client for any OS etc
-no bloat like game library

that expression. kek. says:

If only that's all it took. You need something with marketing and something convenient.
Normalfags prioritise convenience>looks>functionality, the smartphone industry is the biggest example of that

based picto chat user

>all discords features are bloat garbage

They banned 10,000 users yesterday just for being in a server where violent content was posted, without anyone reporting it. Constant automatic surveillance across every single server. That should alarm you even if you're an honest person, name another chat client who has pulled that kind of shit.

Just because you aren't involved in illegal content doesn't mean you won't have your accounts/servers terminated if one user decides to post it.

Those noses

They collect the shit out of you. Try for yourself, get a friend and PM drugs / Loli / whatever.

You'll get banned

In a *private chat*

>What are you hiding user.jpg

I've posted loli porn multiple times and never been banned. Granted this is in a server with less than 50 people consisting of only people I personally know.

t. freetard

Don't use it and scold anyone who suggests you install it.

Maybe loli is a bit less crazy. But drugs and violence gets you banned fast as fuck

Don't use it

normalfags literally dont give a single shit about any of these, you cant stop the cancer.

Stop being a freetard

E.E.E

Spread the word on RIOT, instead of critisizing it to oblivion

>Maybe
im calling it bullshit.

flood it with CP, spam socials about it being a pedo den.

whats the best IRC client

Not the freetard definition of simple, user. The normal definition of simple.
When freetards say "this is simple", they mean it is light. IRC is light. It's not fucking easy to use. Setting up an IRC server requires you to at least read up beforehand, whereas to set up a Discord "server" all you have to do is click a few buttons, fill in a form or two, and it's done. And you can invite people.

What is it with Open-Source numbnuts and not understanding why a specific system has a bigger spread than their open-source variant?

Discord is a trustless system (yes, you technically buy into getting assreamed by bronies with a hard-on for surveillance, but normies don't care), you don't expose your IP address to other people and you can limit people to actually requiring accounts. And it's done without any weird invocation.
For IRC, just logging on for the first time can be an obtuse experience thanks to the requirement commands, in addition to server-specific commands. Discord's quirky bots are shit, but at least they can be ignored instead of being a required tool for even making a mandatory account.
And afterwards you still have to contend with the fact that most functionality of Discord, like voice chat, is not a feature of the system.
Add in the fact that only unixoid systems have good and free IRC clients and it's blatantly obvious why no one is using it anymore.
Back in the day I had to use a Firefox extension because it was the best free IRC client I could find on Windows.

What IRC lacks is an abstraction layer - an option for serverside logs, hidden IPs, voice chat, persistent cross-server identities, avatarfagging and general low-effort management on both the user and the "administrator" side.

Why is voice chat considered bloat?

Not a discordfag, I'll keep shouting it down until the day it dies in a fire while sitting with my chums on TeamSpeak, but I don't understand how voice chat is bloat for gaming at least. Depending on genre, you can't stop what you're doing to type shit out.

That's not the issue. Just like with every single new VoIP program, 90% of users are bandwagoners, and those of us satisfied with our current program have to deal with pressure from literally all sides to move to the new program every year or two. Some of us are fucking sick and tired of moving when the new platform offers no apparent benefits over our current platform. Being a part of a 10+ year gaming friends group gets mildly strained when everyone wants to move from Ventrilo to RaidCall to Mumble to TeamSpeak3 to Discord (I managed to corral them on TS and obstinately refuse to join Discord).

So long as it exists and is heavily promoted, the status quo is absolutely not maintained so long as you just ignore it. Discord, unfortunately, lingers like a cancer that will not simply kill the host, and I have to bide my time for it to go away so I can stop hearing otherwise cool randos online insist
>"you should join our Discord if you want to raid/queue/hunt/etc with us"
>"no thanks, I don't do Discord. me and my friends have our own TS3 if you want to join it"
>"wow, you still use teamspeak? well, we'd prefer if you got in our discord"
>"no thanks, I'll just use the (inferior) in-game voice if it's that big a deal"
>"well we'd prefer blablabla"

Oh my fucking god, don't insist I join your shitty platform if you're just as resistant to join my shitty platform when I've only politely offered. That's the main problem, is Discord users don't understand compromise, and if compromise isn't possible, and it's their X vs your Y, they will obliviously push X and not even give a moment's thought to Y. I have valid (security concerns) reasons for not putting Discord on my machine, and the only excuse they have for not installing TS3 (which is free for clients) is "well, I don't want to install another program / all my friends are on Discord". See: not an argument.

Hack it and leak everyone's info and conversations. You know, exactly what WarnerMedia paid for.

He said better, not utter shit.

Ban all forms of electronic social media.

Attached: how to use a jackhammer.webm (426x240, 2.19M)

and here
I would absolutely have no reservations against switching to Discord if it did all these things (see: runs exactly like TeamSpeak3 with more features) and none of that fucking atrocious client design that can be eliminated and reduced to a fucking vertical window that takes up 1/5th of your screen.

I already do this. I give them founded, logical reasons for why I do not and will not use it, providing sources if asked, and if they give me the knee-jerk retard response "hurrdurr chrome /google/walmart/insertCORP already steals all ur datas" or some other dismissive non-argument, then I turn the argument around on them and ask them to give me valid arguments for not installing teamspeak and joining my server that I pay for supervise with an anything goes mentality and absolutely no active logging.

Every fucking time, they haven't a single valid argument. Arguments that can be boiled down to "I'm a lazy piece of shit" or "I'm a one-way piece of shit" or further boiled down to "I'm a piece of shit"

And I don't install programs recommended by pieces of shit.

I'm not going to waste my time trying to prove to some faceless, nameless asshole online that I'm probably old enough to be his father, but have you ever considered that people come to this site to use more than one board? Or that they might use different programs for different purposes?

Get over yourself. Jow Forums isn't some elite cool kids club like you seem to believe it is.

And yet you perpetuate the cycle by responding.

>what's a hash blacklist
Google does the exact same shit, it's not rocket science.

If there was a way to post in a thread without bumping it then I'd be all for it

>you can take down """servers""" by posting questionable material
Has anyone started abusing this yet? It's unironically the best way to fuck up that botnet.

user, you choose to respond. You must exercise temperance.

Imagine english good this

>oh no, there's no a way a single one reported it

discord has all the paid features of slack while being 100% free

just bring back MSN messenger and let me nudge my friend past the limit with MSN Messenger +

@70201862
>faceless, nameless asshole online

How the fuck is that better?

bub, this isn't Twitter. @?

>@

Are you fucking retarded?

For me the biggest issue is the fact that's it runs on electron, and they make it super difficult for anyone to make their own native client. Electron gives shit performance, I have a pretty decent pc but it'll use up to 50% of my cpu sometimes, while teamspeak NEVER went above 5% on my shit laptop. It also enables it to have the same security risks other Javascript and electron apps have. It also just removes the ability for the community to make anything better, like extensions and plugins, unless using betterdiscord, which is still very limiting, along with their ridiculously slow development team. It boggles me how it's been literally months and they still haven't enabled the server video calling shit, despite it being there for months now and can be enabled with literally a link or better discord.

So sure, the average users won't care about cli clients and Foss and shit, but I know a shit ton of normies who would love shit like that or benefit from shit like that.

don't even bother arguing with this guy. he's clearly baiting or he's legitimately mentally crippled. either way, not worth a reply

Because your rigid way of thinking leaves no room for imagination and fun. You're dead inside, it's over.

It's pronounced ``at''. It's commonly used in what we call ``email''.
