What tools?

I don't have to, because I'm not into video/image editing or CAD software.

>best
>non-free
Oxymoron

not op but i need ableton. not only is it non-free, but it requires proprietary operating systems to run
>inb4 bitwig
not a viable substitute, and its non-free

Wine should run it just fine

It will hook up to all the free libraries in your system

>what is piracy

Ableton has run like shit in WINE for me in the past, it does for most people

Like what?

Grab a guitar and a piano.

>urxvt
>vim
>mutt
>surf
all the best tools are free

>urxvt
>can't resize font on the fly
unironically I think gnome-terminal is better, it even runs as daemon-client

I own instruments. But I also do a lot of digital production, and I have no hardware synthesizers and drum machines. Trust me, I would just use fuckin Ardour or something if I had all the proper hardware.

He's not talking about price, he's talking about freedom.
Nice memes retard

I wish some modern terminal like konsole or gnome-terminal had keyboard select like urxvt does, but right now they cannot compete

>gnome terminal
>needs Gnome and GTK
are you retarded

Wine has made a lot of changes recently

It has a platinum rating.

ill try it again i guess

I think Reaper works pretty well on Linux, but I can't say much since i'm not into music production. Have you tried free DAWs such as LMMS?

>surf
>let's build a minimalist browser on top of a bloated browser engine

I have tried LMMS. Horrible.
Reaper is nice. I like it a lot, but its heavier on the sequencing and mixing side than it is digital production and MIDI editing. But Its only $60. Reaper is really nice. Better than $400 Bitwig that suffers from the same shortcomings. I might as well pick up Reaper and then just spend money on more physical shit like hardware synths. Thanks for reminding me of Reaper m8.

Get the latest wine staging if you can and follow the winedb install instructions.

Look into DXVK as well, might help with other programs.

LMMS is actually bad.

Music production requires proprietary software right now, sadly. Just objectively that's how it is.

What I can't cope with is the fact that it proves that free tools are shit.

>how do I cope with this feel?
Become a developer. Then all the best tools are free.

Actually works perfectly so far, thanks user

LMMS is not suitable for professional work, so I wouldn't get too much into it.

Reaper is better than Ableton in many ways for traditional music production, but not suitable for EDM kids.

I would bite the bullet and just get ableton, especially for live musicians. It's simply the best for that task.

not that guy, but ableton is hit-or-miss with Wine. audio in Linux is a bit of a mess.
t. happy bitwig convert

Check out this: sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/
Probably the most usable non-urxvt terminal emulator I know of, even if it's quite a bit more resource hungry.
In fact, Kitty does some keyboard-related things even better than urxvt. I love how it can pipe the scrollback into another program, e.g. less.

neat, gonna check it out

Burn your desire for freedom at the altar of performance and efficiency.

yes you can

Any faster alternatives with no unnecessary features and js support out there? I just need something for jupyter

This post just shows that you dont understand anything about music production.

Sacrifice your life to building something better and release it for free.
I'm doing exactly that.

I make electronic music because I'm not a talentless hack. Guitar is for lesser minds...

>fucking around with presets and hitting the spacebar
>not a talentless hack
yeah ok

the problem is software that includes material which I can't gather, like those stupid phone apps for learning and shit

Name one free software you pay for

Is that hypothetical or a real app?

>luke archsmith
>just add the function yourself bro no need to have it by default

sadly real

S U P E R C O L L I D E R

iirc reaper is free, dl free trial and u never actually have to pay. might be reaktor, idk

Redhat

fact is that you can't have a non-bloated, useful browser engine in 2k19 unless the only sites you want to read are orange news and wikipedia.

Can confirm reaper is free. They pretend it’s not, but it is.

Those tools usually repackage the free version with nicer UI

free as in freedom

I doubt YOU pay for redhat
But bravo the *one* free software you pay for

When a new architecture arrives only the free tools exist, therefore, the free tools are the best.

If you tink you need a computer for music production you're a zoomer who probably buys Apple products

Cringe.
Go back to your tape reels and LPs grandpa

Makita, dewalt,Milwaukee all use non-free firmware to control their cordless tools.

Go back into making your EDM non-music
You could hit a garage door with a sledgehammer and it would have more rhythm and harmony than modern popular """music"""
