Gave the latest GNOME a try a few days ago, I'm rather surprised by how smoothly it works now. It used to lag hard on proprietary NVidia drivers, now it's fortunately not the case. What really sucks is that there is still no dash to dock released for 3.32, it's rather annoying to use the Activities menu to switch between applications. What's your experience with it, Jow Forums?

gnome is fucking bloat

sure thing, i'm fortunate enough to own a PC that can handle it, so I don't complain

Ho ho ho ha ha, ho ho ho he ha. 'Ello, my old chum. I’m gnot an gnelf. I’m gnot a goblin. I’m a gnome. And you’ve been, GNOMED!!!

With which distro did you tried it?

There is dash to dock for 3.32, you just have to download it yourself from github

i agree

arch, unironically. i'm too used to the thing!
oh nice, thanks

>it's rather annoying to use the Activities menu to switch between applications.
>he doesn't use meta+tab

Attached: concern.png (877x887, 656K)

of course I do use that but sometimes my habits give in and I switch applications with my mouse

Waiting for ubuntu take it

from thumbnail I though this was Maemo
fix your phone UI

I fail to see anything wrong with that layout, icons are perfectly readable and browsing with keys is straightforward

>I can't switch applications
use the keyboard fag, desu I hate docks if I'm gonna switch aplications with the mouse I rather use the overview

>Too lazy to install a nice theme for other WM
>Use gnome because it looks good out of the box
Who here /lazy & dumb/?

Attached: 1552540628957.jpg (250x203, 42K)

How's the fractional scaling?

It's been pretty nice so far, only thing that's hung me up is gnome boxes not working anymore as it tries to use 3D acceleration and something's fucking up with detecting the Nvidia driver and it aborts.

Another user said it but dash to dock has a git package in the AUR if that's easier for you to install than building from source manually. I installed that earlier today when I found out it wasn't working.

While I use themes in my gnome install I have to admit after these new icons that adwaita icons/gtk look pretty damn good nowadays

Dash to dock was released early today.

Have fun waiting a year

Attached: sao_2_e13c-620x.jpg (620x350, 16K)

on the gnome website.

But I don't think it is as bad as kde though.

How can I get the latest version on Fedora 29? Or should I just wait?

>Mar 13
>Calendario icon says 14

Dropped

>I use Android BTW

seriously just stop - nobody gives a shit

install it from rawhide

is that the latest tablet os?

I can rice dwm but I end up back in gnome since tiling is retarded. At most you will need 2 windows at the same time to move something to the other.
Everything works on dwm or i3 but I just don't like tiling. And everything is easier to reach in gnome regarding settings for hardware and such.

You can press alt tab and click there with your mouse.

serious question: why do you want your PC to look like a mobile device?
do you do any work on it, or just mindlessly consume media on it 24/7? If so that's understandable.
For me, an environment like pic related inspires me to be productive.

Attached: Windows-95.jpg (800x600, 171K)

1. It macOS doesn't look like mobile os
2. It's ux it's vastly superior than any version of Windows

Who said I wanted it? I use GNOME because GNOME is the most used DE out there and therefore has the most support, KDE is good enough but it's large array of options in programs make for a visually cluttered environment and while this is doable on a monitor, on a small screen laptop it is eye straining.

mac OS has an eyesore app bar instead of an actual taskbar like older Windows.

Are there not upstream repositories? It was easy as fuck for me to get fast gnome updates on Ubuntu gnome back when unity still existed

gnome looks more like a window manager. OP is the search screen.
Seriously is there anyone that even knows what alt tab does who can complain about gnome? I only see retards or neets talking about bloat

link video pls

>removes desktop icons for no fucking reason
>no system tray anymore, do it our way!
>thumbnails? No, fuck you.

Tiling's fine if you have enough screen real estate

In moving to GuixSD I decided to try something different from my previously beloved Xfce.
Been using stock Gnome for a couple years now, it's great.
I appreciate how cohesive and polished everything is.

does GNOME have a regular start menu like win7?

application menu extension

yes its called budgie

>how smoothly it works
i really doubt that

>system tray
that is useless in gnome
iirc desktop icons' code was unmaintained

i was broken for me last times i tried gnome

>that is useless in gnome
Yeah, because gnome devs forces software devs to do it their way.
>iirc desktop icons code was unmaintained
Was it? How hard is it to maintain it, when you don't need to do everything from scratch?
Does it mean, that KDE has more maintainers?

Use Ubuntu MATE.

>Yeah, because gnome devs forces software devs to do it their way.
no because it makes zero sense in gnome

> How hard is it to maintain it
Very easy.
> Does it mean, that KDE has more maintainers?
It means KDE had people that wanted to maintain it come forward.

Why one of most popular functionalities of desktop OS makes zero sense in gnome?
>no maintainers? No one wants it.
Makes sense.

>Why one of most popular functionalities of desktop OS makes zero sense in gnome?
obviously you have never used gnome

So... What's alternative of changing your status in pidgin through system tray?
Or, "pause all" torrents in deluge from tray icon?

It's still shit !

>coming soon no fucking themes we hate them

I don't like gnome
But fedora with gmome is comfy desu

Still much slower than Windows. :(

No, install Cinnamon, Mate, KDE, Xfce, LxQt, etc...

xfeces btfo

This is so fucking bad I'd like to believe it isn't real, but GNOME is so fucking bad that it's very believeable.

t. KDE user

Hopefully Windows exists and is easy to crack.

based, I don't ever use it too

my web browsers (firefox, brave) both crash and eventually my desktop crashes, it happens on fedora, mint(cinnamon) and ubuntu.

Unity is best for productivity

yeah, no good in a 14 incher

How do i hotkey panel items like unity?

get dash to dock from git, it worked since release of 3.32.
topicons isnt working correcly yet (high CPU usage, but AMD is giving me free cores anyways)
Theres also this, to make mutter quite a bit smoother if can install from AUR
aur.archlinux.org/packages/mutter-781835-workaround/

GNOME is the best

Attached: Screenshot from 2019-03-19 14-25-58-fs8.png (3830x900, 673K)

>it's large array of options in programs make for a visually cluttered environment
Options != clutter. Pic related is my clutter-free desktop.

>on a small screen laptop it is eye straining
Is it the size of things? You can scale the whole UI. See windows in pic related.

Also if you like the way GNOME-style Dashboard, KDE has an option like that, though not exact.

Attached: Screenshot_20190319_084257.png (1680x1050, 986K)

Use KStatusNotifierItem/AppIndicator Support dude, it works perfectly.
extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/

options in your face right out of the box is clutter. That screenshot looks like shit

>options in your face right out of the box
What do you mean in your face? You have to go to control panel to access them.

>That screenshot looks like shit
So does ur mom.

>system tray is equivalent to opening window
You're a retard.
I tried to like gnome shell, forced myself to. Because KDE plasma is just not my cup of tea (too much moving parts). But when they removed desktop icons, system tray.. what the fuck?
GNOME 2, now that was a DE!

you're a retard mate

Imagine cycling through all windows just so you can pause torrents
>lol, just put them in new workspace!
Imagine having workspace for windows which could be minimized to tray and accessible from all workspaces
You said
>system tray is not gnome way
With which, I thought you implied that there's just as good alternative.

tl;dr no u

>cycling
nigga, you're a retard

i now see that all the gnome haters hate gnome because they're so retarded they can't figure how to use the most retard proofed de

>tl;dr
don't worry i didn't :^)

>implying clusterfuck of windows on screen is better way
You don't help yourself
No one asked you to

>clusterfuck
literally impossible in gnome3

Show me
With 10 windows opened

press super

might do

A FUCKING FOOT

>implying I use "fuck you, users, we know better" DE

thanks dude, it even looks prettier

>Systemtray is useless
With KDE or any other DE, i Can leave my computer and come back and I can see my the telegram icon with number of notifications on it in case I missed them . In gnome I would have to manually check telegram like a negro.

Not him but looks like trash desu

Attached: screenshot_615.png (371x274, 60K)

I prefer having adjustable/unified icon size like in TopIcons, but for me atleast these look fine

Soon
phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NVIDIA-January-EGLStreams-KWin

I guess i'm not most Jow Forums posters, but i really like Gnome, and from my perspective it's continually improving it's fundamentals.

guys, please try to use the de itself for a couple of days before blindingly hating it next time

wrong
in gnome the notifications are in the top middle

Comfy theme.

Gnome is based

GNOME is polished and stays out of your way. Really like the way virtual desktops are handled as well.

Gnomed and gnome-pilled

>posted from my iPhone X

There's already a 19.04 daily build available..

Gnome is better than kde

why is it that i notice after i posted my debian rice in a desktop thread with chicago95 everybody hopped on the bandwagon
