HGST replacement

Are these the only real alternative, now that HGST is kill?
Are there any stats on these?

I've just been buying refurb HGSTs. cheaper per terabyte, assuming you're willing to run a larger number of drives.

I can’t trust “refurbished” HDDs because I highly doubt anything has actually been done to them other than wiping smart data especially looking at helium drives

Never trust a Seagate product unless you make constant backups.

I bought into the reddit meme of shucking MyBooks, apparently they have HGST He10 drives with gimped firmware inside.
They're pretty good, apart from the unusual mounting holes

It's been owned by Western Digital for years, but recently, I haven't been able to find any new stock of HGST hard drives. Not OP, btw. I assume they were just rebranded as these: but I don't know either.

ive been using a refurbed 6tb helium drive for 2 years and it works great.

WD probably integrated the HGST brand now with the new Ultrastars and such.

HGST NAS drives are good....or their Enterprise drives.

If you wanna save money for a home RAID setup, buy the WD 8/10TB externals and shuck the drive out of them, they are usually white label RED drives.

You'd be lucky if nothing's been done to them. Who knows what problems could be introduced by a third-party refurbisher. An HGST Ultrastar or WD Ae or equivalent drive should last 10 years of hard service in a data center. If you get it after 5 years in a data center, it will probably last you until it's obsolete.

You post this as if HGST isn't, in fact, Western Digital.
