What happens when your mobo gets fried?
Brainlet here. How do you overclock a CPU?
>inb4 just use Google
Turn your cooler to the max, set your core voltage to 1.4V and start increasing your clock until CPU becomes unstable. Use prime95 to measure stability. Then gradually lower the voltage until your CPU becomes unstable.
>4 cores
>no hyperthreading
>16 max pcie lanes
>max memory channels 2
oh and kek
>1080p gaming
>Quad core
No.
>lower the voltage until your CPU becomes unstable
I'm still using an FX8350 with no problems. then again, I don't play most (((modern games))) because they are mostly all shit.
Voltage is only necessary to supply enough current to keep all parts of the CPU running + epsilon. More is just wasted heat.
Obviously, I mean when you reach instability, go back one notch.
FX-8350 was a based CPU that is slept on.
>How do you overclock a CPU?
Isn't there a program that just does it for you?
Real talk, what tangible benefits are there from upgrading the CPU if im running an overclocked 3570k? Ill probably be upgrading to Zen2 or possibly intel's next offering if its competitive.
Not bottlenecking a going on 3 year old pascal GPU is one benefit.
test
Actually I was planning to retire my 2500K this year because it's operating at its limit in some games nowadays, and that's with a safe 4.2 GHz overclock.
You're probably paying far more in electricity than you would by upgrading both your mobo and CPU.
>60fps
kek pathetic
>60 fps
>silky smooth
Is this what poorfags actually believe?
Silky smooth 60fps what? Club Penguin? 3D Pinball?
>1080p gaming
There's nothing wrong with 1080p. Especially when you can get two 120Hz+ monitors for the price of a single 144Hz 1440p or 60Hz 4k.
If you're going for multimonitor getting double high refresh rate is retarded. God setup is one 240hz w/ adaptive sync + secondary high resolution IPS for media consumption.
I don't think I was being clear; I was just making a price comparison, not actually suggesting gaming on two monitors. I was saying gaming at 1080p is fine, until high refresh rate 1440p and larger becomes reasonably affordable. I use a 1080p primary display and secondary 1600x900 display, but when gaming I keep the game on just the 1080p display and use the secondary for stuff like IRC, looking up stuff about the game I'm playing, etc. Unless it's an older game that would look better in 720p, then I move it to my secondary. I guess it has something to do with how things are scaled down, but 720p games look so much cleaner on the 1600x900 display than 1080 display. Admittedly I've only recently gotten into PC gaming, having been a console pleb for years so I don't know much about PC gaming and it could purely be my imagination, but games with a 720p max seem to look much better on a '900p' monitor.
I'm going to kill myself.
>GTX 1060
1050ti would've been better (or 1080ti+)
>t. q6600 OC'd
i can play 4k 60fps hdr accelerated no problem thanks to 1050ti hw support for vp9/hvec 10bit (that the 1060 lacks)
>not buying a cheap Xeon
i did , xeon 5470 cost me like $25, OC'd to 3.9Ghz and been working well for a couple years now
>Silky smooth 60FPS with no bottleneck
Not with Ubisoft games.
fx8350 is good unless you need calculations in which case its ot great
Have you tried to play Sekrio?
A buddy of mine was highly recommending it and I saw it works perfectly in proton, with a platinum rating. I'll get around to it. I'm hoping it runs well.
i7 4770k was the best ever made
Who plays that garbage anyway?
r6s
I'm using a 2500k @ 4.3 with an RX480 and I get smooth 60 minimum on siege
>bragging about 60fps
>Why yes, as a matter of fact I am using an i5 2500k and windows 7. How did you know?
I had [email protected]. Was mostly fine but had a minor bottleneck here and there. Ac odyssey was very fucked, with fps jumping constantly between 35 and 65 even when looking at one spot. Witcher 3 had some stutters as well but nothing too bad
Post footage of you running Assassin's Creed: Odyssey at a locked 60fps on your system.
>Silky smooth 60FPS
Fucking kek
I agree both the 2500k and the 2600k were fucking amazing and still are perfectly usable today, almost a decade later, but come on now
60fps looks like absolute SHIT after you get used to 144fps
>have 1080p 144hz monitor
>will upgrade to 1440p 240hz in some years when GPUs catch up and can't wait for it
Just curious, why not 4k? Will 4k ever be practical for desktop use, or are the screen sizes just too small for most people to make use of it?
happened to me
took the ryzen pill
no significant improvement compared to upgrading from HDD to SSD
I'm on a 8370 with a 1080 pair. They eat everything modern I've tried that's fairly demanding, but that's on 3 27"s.
>16 max pcie lanes
WHO
CARE
Massive resolutions on small screens are a complete waste. If your screen is 3 feet wide then 4k will be nice if you are sitting close. There's diminishing returns for smaller screens and longer distances from the screen. Which is why say billboards are super low resolution and using anything more than 1080p on a smartphone is retarded.
are you fucking serious, or just retarded?
Because I want to upgrade to 240hz
>4k 240hz
Even if a monitor supported that, no GPU could handle that even in the next years to come
it would be sick tho right
Get rid of this shit. I upgraded from my OC'D 2500k to a 8700k @ 5.1 and the difference is so clear it's ridiculous. Stop holding onto old hardware.
i'm saving some money to get a nice top of the line system in a few months
You're probably 24-30 years old
>2500k
>no bottleneck
You haven't played enough stuff, then. I have a 4690 that I'll be upgrading to Zen 2 from because it bottlenecks me noticeably in certain games.
Literally happened to me on Saturday, on my laptop with a 770m while waiting for Ryzen 3 to drop...
use google you fuckign tard.
It's a good CPU that holds 60 fps, but technically it is being bottlenecked especially in Rainbow Six Siege
>60FPS
A 2011 framerate from a 2011 CPU.
Only upgrade your CPU if you feel like it's holding you back. If you're happy with the performance, leave it alone. You'll know if the performance isn't good enough.
>60fps
lmfao pleb
Yes, well, CS:GO never really had high requirements.
My Q6600/GTX 750/4GB RAM pc runs like absolute shit in both windows and linux (lubuntu). Do you have an SSD in it?
>have 2500k since launch
>never overclocked it
they might not be poorfags, but they are definitely hertzlets
they just don't know things can be better, 60 is the fastest they've ever seen
I still game at 1360x768 on a 32 inches HDTV and it is perfect
Hi-res is a scam
I do that but on a 24 inch Hisense TV. I bought it as a temp when my Samsung LCD died and I really don't notice the difference. I'm never buying an expensive monitor or TV again.
Calling bullshit on that I kept having drops to 30 minimum
4690 4ghz 390x
Get 100fps+ minimum with a gtx 1080 and 2700x 4ghz
i have the xeon 5470, 10gb ram, 1050ti
ssd for the main system, it runs fine (artix linux, previously arch)
only big problem is compiling something like fire/waterfox, but i usually leave it doing that overnight (takes 1-2 hrs)
My Q6600 is at stock 2.4GHz frequency - assuming yours is stock too, the 5470 is ~60% faster than the Q6600 (according to CPU-userbenchmark). That's a pretty large difference.
I'll probably just leave it as is, I use that machine at most once every two months anyway - I could get a good PSU and overclock, but it will still be a DDR2 machine with SATA2...not really worth the effort.
I7-4770k CHADS report in
>ctrl f 4770
>theres other chads here
nice
A while back I managed to get a i5 750 + mobo combo for 20$. Paired with a decent air cooler it easily hits 4ghz with vcore < 1.4V.
my nigger
>not 3960x
>le trash
>only CPU without VT-d in the entire i7 4th gen line
Literally the WORST fucking CPU ever. I regret to this day I fell for this gay ass meme.
t. 4770K grug @ 4.8GHz
Nice vidya and raw performance tho
You mean rx 580. Kek
The most based CPU.
I have the same config and the cpu is a big bottleneck for me. What did you use for cooling ? Never overclocked before
fps
>>silky smooth
the absolute state of consolefags
My 4690K chokes whenever I play something on my 144Hz monitor and bottlenecks my 1070. 60-70% GPU usage whereas my CPU is constantly 90%+ even at 4.6GHz.
Right? And here I am with a i7 920 4ghz OC and 970 getting at least 144fps in most things. Sadly I have an older rev of the EVGA x58 board so I can't upgrade to 6 core xeon
That's so bogus evga wont let you get a hexacore, even the Asus p6t deluxe from 2008 let you get the 2010 six cores with a bios update.
games don't require new CPU tech for about a decade.
its because engine is all that really hurts cpu and engines don't get upgraded that much. and adding new graphical effects to a engine don't cause problems for CPU.
like the engine anthem and BFV use is the same as the Bad Company1 engine that was first published in 2008.
call of dutys modern engine was first used in 2007 (and don't say shit about cod1/2/3 they used a dif engine)
cod4 engine is still used today and is only 1 year older than anthems engine.
and EA is even saying they want to stay with current engine next gen. which is fucked. we might be stuck with same engine for another 10years. and Activision has obviously upgraded cod4 engine alot as bo4 can do massive map and 100players.
unironically we could reach a point that cods engine is better at running a battlefield style game than BF is.
>decided to upgrade OC'ed 3570K @ 4.5Ghz for 6600K
>buy 6600K
I fell for (((their))) scam
realize it's actually your watercooler exploding and kiling the x16 slot. clean that shit up, install new cooler, troubleshoot for hours until you just put the GPU in the x8 slot and keep going strong. that's what I did, 2500k OC _ rx580, should be good enough until new GPUs come out and I do fully new build to break from 1080p.
i thinking on retiring my 2500k.
You guys think the I7 9700k is worth it or should i keep this thing running?
Shouldn't you be asking that from yourself? We don't know if that processor is still good for what you're doing or not.
Do google around user and check if anyone has tried.
I have a GA-EX58-UD5 rev1 and the supported CPU list only shows a W3690 6 core Xeon supported. Most the forum posts I googled said if it's not on the support list it won't work. But I found one saying he got an X5670 and it just worked, as all the GA-EX58 boards share the same bios, they just didn't update the support list.
So 2 months ago I got the X5670 6 core for £20 on ebay and the EVO 212 cooler for £25 to replace my stock i7 920 in my 10 year old motherboard. Massive boost in performance, doubled FPS in some games, everything I've played so far stays at 60FPS with VSync.
CPU performance improvements have slowed down dramatically in the last 10 years, I think I can keep this system going another 5 years with a GPU upgrade.
>buying intel in 2019
I have a 4670k paired with a 1080 Ti and play at 4K everything maxed with no problem unless it's a game optimized like dogshit. Would upgrading to a Ryzen 2700 be a waste of 500 of I only play games?
I5 4570 and rx580 here. Gutted a dell precision and upgraded it. Its OK I guess. I can't magine the 2500k doesn't show its age constantly
Check benchmarks of the games you're having problems with, make sure ryzen will actually perform better in those titles. If you'll get better performance then go for it. But don't buy blind.
can confirm, I just upgraded from an 8320 and it's great as a workstation chip
youtube.com
It's sad it got such a bad wrap just because it didn't compete directly with Intel.
This CPU can take 1600MHz sticks at full speed or they will be slow-down to 1333?
just use Startpage
All really depends on your use case. Most games can and still run fine on 4 cores aside from some poorly optimized triplea/ EA game. Don't let the consume whores on Jow Forums and /v/ push you into upgrading if you're fine with your current set up.
>60fps what? Club Penguin? 3D Pinball?
massive kek and based dubs
unironically though even minesweeper solitaire and NullPoMino (tetris) are infinitely better at 144hz and arent demanding at all on the gpu
Fucking this. Bought on day1 and still using this daily. Absolutely no problem to this day. I'm going to be absolutely gutted the day it melts.
I'm building a dank Xeon 1366 rig myself lads
People who do more than play games
It won t lmao, the mobos from 2009 still work to this day faggit
I have an fx8370 with a gtx 1060. I can play sekiro medium settings 4K. Most games are playable in 4K but the noise is almost unbearable
