Archiving valued material? Raid 1 minimum,
Although the most important data should always be backed up using multiple methods : bd-r, usb stick, cloud etc..
Throwaway data can use raid 0.
I have a 4 disk nas with a raid 5 array,
I only turn it on when in use,
4 years on and still haven't had a disk fail
