Close but no. He didn't want to port the printer driver to a different system; they had a driver for their system and the printer was working. What he wanted to do was adapt a little program that used the printer API to find out if the printer was stuck and notified everyone in this case. The API for the printer wasn't available and neither was the driver's source.
