IDM is actually really good on Windows. Really, really good.

JDownloader uses java and used to bundle actual malware. So in the trash it goes.

uGet only barely works, with no browser integration you might as well just cURL or Aria everything.

Same goes for Persepolis though it's a bit more functional (at least it handles downloads and GUI elements properly) compared to uGet.

You can mix the video track with high-quality audio you downloaded separately. It is easy to do with FFmpeg. I have done this, for example, with a certain board's old Vocaloid-sung theme song, where the original upload didn't have the best audio quality.

Youtube-DL is a godsend
I think some improvements could be made from the user-interface standpoint (If you can tell which one's video and which one's audio, why do I need to specify them in an order, can't the program just specify it?), but for what it is, it's great.
Just wish it could parallelize downloading the videos and allow me to specify the output filename (currently, this feature only works with the video data and a weird form of printf).

I have started doing this about a year ago. Most videos arent that important and tbqh I maybe watched twice but sometimes somebody will upload something that they shouldnt or they will be asked to remove content due to reasons and its basically gone forever.
I remember I watched a vid about two russians(?) in UK driving at night through town centre and just talking about it, that video is gone.

What? You can specify output filename. I use yt dl on windows and just have a simple batch file that will ask input, then streams and output name but I dont know scripting at all, anyone who knows his shit could make it all automated af

I've tried quite a few youtube grabbers.
I need one that downloads the maximum resolution, that's reasonably fast and that can download whole channels, picking max resolution and frame rate for each file.

Youtube-dl gui has a weird issue where it corrupts the exif data or something and thumbnails don't render for half the videos. It also seems to fuck up the 'order by date modified' function in file explorer.

At the moment I use JDownloader 2 for 4k videos.
4k video downloader for channels and random vids but my crack has an issue where I have to close it often for it to parse videos and start the download.

Trying out free download manager which has a nice interface with thumbnails, but it seems slow and doesn't recognise videos above 1080p and I guess doesn't download 60fps vids either.

No mate, don't think so. I use icaros to render thumbnails because I do a lot of video editing and frame interpolation conversion to make my edits smoother. So any rarer formats have been added to icaros.
It's an odd one became the folder for only that program loads at a very slow pace even with hardly any contents in there.

i used to keep backup videos of my vocaloid favorites playlists but it eventually turned into merely html files being backed up. already got a backup of my playlist favorites so youtube doesn't really matter. i think some producers prefer not to have the third-party exposure and takedown their work.
