You can see for yourself in the Google Groups archive. I was just doing some online archeology about the mexican zapatistas uprising in '94 and found a lot of interesting first hand accounts from that time.

I got interested in this after reading a Le Monde Diplo article about the early soviet internet and one of the sources listed was talk.politics.soviet

What, don't you remember? You need to be 18 to post here.

shitposting except in a more formal setting

Lots of pixelated porn, from what I remember.

it was the best. 11 years old, downloading like 10 pictures off some alt.images board with a 28.8 modem, then spending half an hour printing them on my parents bubble jet when they were out, just so i could masturbate for 45 seconds.

Far more psychotic and insane people than Jow Forums could dream of.

>What were Usenet discussions like?
as worthless as any other online discussion. usenet only became interesting when you start trading binary files as text.

still is that way. i still see the same psychos posting on usenet today as i did decades ago.

What would you call digging not indexed posts from 25 years ago then, my meme man?

I learned to program on Usenet, circa late 80's.
It was fucking great! Too bad it got taken over by porn-cucks.

Right now it's pretty good, albeit a little quiet. It's like Jow Forums if everyone was a namefag who changed their name monthly.

It was a lot like Jow Forums, but text-only and in your email client or standalone news reader.

I want everyone to go back but they won't people just love moderated forums and upvotes and downvotes. And torrents and ddl have also put usenet practically out of business.

But the discussions were unmoderated insanity at worst and highly informative at best.
And you never had to worry ever about moderators or votes. You still don't but basically nobody uses it now.
