It's far from zombie, you obviously confused MPC-HC with MPC-BE, the latter is actively developed, as for the former it's still gets updates albeit unofficially.

seriously, whenever i see software being updated, it's usually for things like "Added Belgian localization" and "fixed bug where that feature nobody ever uses was slow" sort of thing.

If you check the changelog you'll see lots of new features, libraries, improvements and of course bug fixes. trust me it's worth the update.
