yee lol. fagured it out finally. whenever i would run make clean install it would put the new binary into /usr/bin/local and i had to change that in my .xinitrc
it's not that hard, just symlink it or just point xinitrc to your binary. I would have thought someone running slackware would be easily using something like dwm.
I hardcoded some keybinds but I think it would be best to use xmodmap or something else you can change in the fly.
I don't even use it much though, I like changing everything on the fly so I use gnome, red light for night, lock screen or not lock screen, auto suspending, not suspending, good keyboard layout daemon, changing fonts, etc.
I'm its for the reasons you describe that I use xfce and i3 together to get the perfect blend of nooby gui and perfect configuration

why aren't you using xubuntu RIGHT NOW? it's the most /comfy/ distro that just works.
I used to like xubuntu a lot. But i realized its bloat and switched to i3. Eventually i tried dwm and never looked back.
If you are on ubuntu, try dwm.
tiling window managers have never really be my thing, iunno why, maybe its that I'm on my desktop so minimizing mouse usage isn't a big deal when I always have one, or maybe I'm just too used to floating window managers. I do need to get a laptop for school soon so ill probs try i3 or dwm on that.
