I've been wondering if it would be possible for me to build a case of my own that's compact enough to basically carry around or carry-on a plane without much notice.

yeah its called a laptop

I dont get ultra compact cases. At that point you're already choosing lower power components and/or undervolting to fit everything in and keep thermals in check. And you get next to no storage and end up with external drives anyway. At that point you might as well just get a gaming laptop and use it exclusively with a monitor

that's a shop made from tj-08e, right?

yes, you have good eyes.

why do they have to be so expensive reeeeee

Mini-ITX is more than sufficient if you don't aim for high-end gayming. I have a compact case for mini-ITX, put a Ryzen 1800X and a 1050 Ti GPU in it, and I'll most likely benefit from upgrades on the same motherboard up to Zen2 CPUs and the next midrange GPU generation. Internal 2 To HDD + 512 Go SSD. I don't need more storage, I do not intend on making a lightweight server and I already have a little NAS.

For me, it's the Evercase ECE1290. Classic utilitarian case design with contemporary compatibility. Affordable, stylish, rugged. Pair with a CRT for a prime experience.

Mini itx is fine. I have a mini itx x470 build in a Cerberus, but stuff like the Dan case a4, loque ghost s1, and Sliger SM550 are so small it restricts most of the reasons why you would build a desktop. I guess if really need to upgrade your CPU every generation it's fine but I assume even for builders almost none expect to upgrade that often

Just looked this up, £200 approx, hmm, ok its expensive, delivery date June/July..

NOPE.

I also have the case. I like the layout, but I eventually switched to Define Mini C
for better fan choices. That shoop seems to fix the issue.

I'd pair it with a 4K IPS EIZO in glorious beige.
