Alright Jow Forumsentlemen, I just took the orange pill and installed Ubuntu. What are some good tips for a Linux newbie who spent too much time on Windows?

install xubuntu
install windows 10 and use WSL
and get the cdrtools ppa if you burn cds
watch tutorials n shit? and anyone who tells you to install Arch or buy a fucking ThinkPad has autism
Rather than asking for le ebin tips for whatever the fuck you wrote...
Start using your fucking computer. Installing crap for the sake of installing won't get you anywhere. Set up your browser, configure torrenting, media player, install your fucking games etc etc.
holy fuck, exactly this unironically
>tfw want to take the orange pill but I sometimes play vidya on my PC
reinstall with kubuntu, which is more similar to the windows layout,
sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop && reboot then run
sudo apt-get remove unity \
unity-asset-pool \
unity-services \
'unity-lens-.*' \
'unity-scope-.*' \
'liboverlay-scrollbar.*' \
appmenu-gtk \
appmenu-gtk3 \
appmenu-qt \
firefox-globalmenu \
thunderbird-globalmenu \
unity-common \
'libunity.*' \
unity-greeter \
'unity-webapps-.*' \
'indicator-.*' \
xul-ext-unity
(to remove the gnome desktop)
then install valve's proton to run exe files, and you're set.
don't install shit manually by downloading .deb files or compiling (sudo makes install), use your software centre as much as possible
search for PPAs here if you can't find your software in the software centre: launchpad.net
>unity
this is a bad advice, better install kubuntu from scratch if you want to
don't be afraid to test other flavours of Ubuntu, each has its own quirks, pros and cons
I advise you stay on Ubuntu proper until you feel comfortable and then try Kubuntu
dual boot?
evolution > thunderbird
install dash-to-dock extension
or was it dash-to-panel
either way
it's already there, can't you see the panel on the left?
uhh.. dash to panel will get rid of that shit on the side (and top, optionally), and make it like windows taskbar, which is far superior, imo
I think you can't do that with GNOME anymore, and it's not about that style of GUI
I'm literally using it on 18.10, right now.
This thing is godsend
oh, interesting
can you link me the thing? I only use dash to dock
sudo apt-get install gentoo -y
extensions.gnome.org
I'm a nice guy today
I'd use windows rather than Ubuntu and I use Arch
thanks a bunch, appreciated!
Based.
