W520 here. I'm trying to upgrade the CPU to a 2960XM and the computer keyboard lights up for a moment when I have it installed, then just shuts off. I've updated the BIOS so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Toughpads
Soft girls
I was thinking about getting a T530 to dump my old W530 parts in, but I also saw some cheap T440p laptops as well. Which would be better to get?
Go check online to see if the 2960XM is even compatible. The 3940XM is compatible on the W530, but even then you might as well buy a desktop.

Thinking of getting an X1 Carbon with a touch screen, is it compatible with any sort of smart pen?

It doesn't say anywhere about official support but there's a lot of people on forums talking about their W520s with 2960XMs in them.

have you tried running it before you put in the new cpu? also did you remember to screw the socket shut?

I've run it without the CPU and it gives a different reaction where the power button only briefly lights up so I think it's detecting it. It still works with the old CPU.

I've also screwed the socket shut.

when I said
>have you tried running it before you put in the new cpu?
I meant did you start it up with the old cpu. you shouldn't even try running the computer without a cpu

Brainlet here, asked in previous but which thinkpad model will allow me to run anything that requires a geforce gtx 660 with 8 gb min?

probably a t430 or t440p with an nvidia gpu

what's the final verdict on stickers, /tpg/?

Attached: t430.png (1451x1349, 2.62M)

simple clean ones like that autistic illyaposter are fine
redbubble white border shit is garbage

Are either of those Notebooks a good choice for school and light gaming or am I delusional?
- Lenovo Yoga 530-14ARR 2700U with Vega 10 (mobile)
- Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY with RX560X

you're garbage user

thanks you too

no problem

Might not have the ability to deliver enough power to the CPU.

A W520 with Coreboot could probably use a 3940XM. Maybe. VRMs willing.

Was looking into it for the last dew minutes thanks for suggestion, not faimiliar with whats needed. How are the t450 btw

Well ackshually its g-nu slash basedpad

How big are the difference between the typing and feel of *60 series compared to **20? I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy a T61 from the scrap as a typing machine. I work with office 2010/docx files and it barely causes any cpu spikes anyway.

Hello friends

Work is letting me request a new laptop of my choice. All memes aside, should I go for the Thinkpad P1 or the Dell XPS 15?

I've heard a few issues with getting linux onto the P1 re bios, and a few of the other employees all req'd the XPS.

I'm fucking torn and they need a response today, what should I do?

Attached: 1552730051300.gif (352x240, 2.66M)

P1
better build quality and keyboard
bios issues are pretty much ironed out by now

XPS so colleague/IT won't bitch about your special snowflake parts/requirements etc

keep it simple and it can work

Attached: t440p.jpg (1886x1512, 923K)

Would I need to install libreboot to use a free-software friendly wifi chipset on an X200? Their website said the original firmware has a whitelist of approved ones, but I'm wondering if any of the whitelisted ones satisfy that requirement and if there are any other less-intrusive ways I could go about it.

I know thinkpads are sexy but damn you took it too far

why is t460 trackpoint is so uncomfortable? or is it because fhd resolution? or does it also applies to newer thinkpad? i had x230 it's far different it feels nice using it

Latitude C610 from eBay
>Pentium III 1.2GHz
>768MB of RAM
Any OS I should install along with XP?

Attached: 2019-04-01 15.01.35.jpg (997x1251, 234K)

i've used trackpoint across 768p to 1440p and it always felt roughly same for me, are you sure you have drivers and everything installed?

Does any of the methods for disabling the whitelist aside from flashing a modded BIOS still work? My old man picked up a T540p with a 1080p panel for 50 kangaroo bucks, but the Intel 7260 card is dogshit. I have a Pi, but no Ponoma clip, and the thing is half the cost of the laptop, so I'm hesitant in buying 1 just to flash a laptop.

nvm i think i got it, just need to config mouse speed

Thinking of getting this:
ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220t-Tablet-convertible-2-5GHz/401742983573?hash=item5d89bf7195:g:u0cAAOSwb-JcpW4v

I want a x220t because of the touchscreen, pen and the t-t-t-tTWIST

what do you guys think Jow Forums?

slab an ssd in it and it's ready for some drawing.

How is 7260 dogshit?

I have an x220t, ssd included, you could have for $200

I'll keep looking, all the $200 ones right now are BIOS locked

What are the differences between a T480 and a T480s? i just understood that the t480 has a better battery, but is more heavy and t480s has magnesium chassis?
Is the build quality the equal? And what about Linux support and thermals?

T440p is master race

tf is that fn key?

Constant dropout, packet loss out the ass, poor transfer rate, etc... Its a known problem card, and Intel pretty much gave up on fixing it and swept everything under the rug (kinda like the Atom series with PowerVR GPU a few years back.)

>16:9 tablet
don't
just get a normal x220

Works fine on my T440p.

Yet it's a recommended upgrade on thinkpads

it activates the internal water tap

Attached: 1553897715351.jpg (1280x720, 133K)

sweet, i wish modern thinkpads had that

Must've been one of the lucky one then. Dell gave up on sending me replacements and sent me the Broadcom card instead, and IT at my uni switched new orders to Broadcom because they were tired of getting new laptops sent back. You can even just google Intel 7260 issues, there's significantly more hits than the 8260, which is ~3 years old already.

Because they're linux friendly unlike broadcom cards, easy to get (probably because of the amount of people returning them), and for a time the only AC card on the market. Nowadays the 8260 and 9260 costs about the same, and is not shit.

Can I use a SOIC16 clip to libreboot?

Attached: soic16 clip.jpg (700x700, 30K)

BIOS locked? As in computraced?

Wait I just remembered I have some of these hook test things. Can I use them instead of a SOIC clip?

Attached: test hook clip.jpg (500x500, 35K)

Its also the last Intel card released officially in mPCIE. Your alternatives if you want AC are shelling out another 30 for a NGFF -> mPCIE adapter, getting a usb dongle (shit), or getting a chink card where they transferred the chip onto a mPCIE board

As in password protected, cant just remove the cmos battery to wipe the password

My chink battery for my T420 isn't charging. Is a slice battery on top of a dead 9 cell a good option?

T480 is thicker heavier, has power bridge system, 2.5 inch bay, fully replacable ram, comes with gimped single heatpipe cooling unless you pick optional mx150 graphics which is faster compared to T480s one(1d10 for T480, 1d12 for T480s) or mod it yourself, the m.2 slot is gimped and uses adapter which runs at pcie 3.0 x2 limiting potential speed
T480s is thinner lighter, no power bridge, no 2.5 inch bay, soldered ram with 1 slot for expansion, mx150 is slower, m.2 ssd runs at full speed
Build quality is technically better on T480s but it's really solid either way, the thermals in low load and idle are excellent with undervolting, writing this post on T480s I'm running 37c fanless right now but during torture tests, rendering or any sustained heavy load both laptops will hit 97c and throttle and it's unavoidable, but throttle is relative term because mine does 3.3ghz on all 4 cores at full load so it's still plenty fast and in realistic workloads I almost never reach those thermals anyway, as for linux support I'm not too familiar with it but I've seen generally positive experiences online you probably don't want the dgpu if you plan to use linux though
As for my opinion on what to pick?
T480 if you want superior battery life and future expandability this laptop will last you the longest probably
T480s if you want to be as thin and light as possible without too many compromises on the i/o and giving up 2.5 inch bay and worse battery life isnt a problem, and if it is you can extend battery life with any USB PD compatible powerbank
X1 carbon if thin and light is all you need and you don't care about anything else

i think you'll find its called a Faucet.

Intel 8260 hmc are these chink cards right? I read somewhere that the range of 8260 is worse thab 7260, is this true? I'm so torn between all of the cards. I would like to gey bluetooth, otherwise would've gotten mtk7612 already

It's possible to short the EEPROM to reset the password.

Yea, HMC = Half Mini card/mini PCIE. I have a 8260 on my Windows 7 E7470 right now since the 9260 doesn't have W7 drivers, didn't notice any range issue.

I can get a T400 with the radeon card for $70 but I can also get a T500 with the better radeon card and the higher res screen for $85. I kinda want a 14" and I don't really care about the screen res as long as it is 16:10, 1440x900 is pretty comfy. Does the T500 overheat easier than the T400? Can the T400 play autismcraft at a decent 60fps? I don't think I'll be playing anything more intensive than that and I feel like the T500 would be overkill.
Which one should I get?

Attached: catpad.jpg (1280x960, 220K)

I don't know anything about computers and want buy a T440s. Is it safe to buy any on eBay as long as it doesn't say "for parts only"? Dont know what all those numbers mean. Just need a computer ASAP. What price range should I go not go under/over?

Where do I buy cheap thinkpads in Europe?

Local online marketplaces or shops that sell used tech.

stickies are good if they dont have huge white borders

Attached: IMG_20190307_223224.jpg (3840x2160, 632K)

yes

will they ever make more of those stickers?

there were more on sale recently

The original X1 is better than the X220. Prove me wrong

NEVERMIND THIS POST
IM GETTING A W500 FOR ONLY $100

The 9260s that I find are full card size.

Windows 98

Get X230t, the faster gpu will help in graphics stuff also aidsdobe photoshop 2015 and above refuses to use the X220t's gpu ie the Intel 3000

get the x220 and put osx on it

Generation two!

is carrying a t450s to uni considered to be autistic?

Then they're chink cards. 7260 was the last official mPCI cards, starting from 8260 they only came in NGFF/M2

people will think you're boring but probably not autistic

How much sacrilege is wrapping a thinkpad?

Attached: g0a32ppchu121.jpg (3278x2268, 610K)

Only if you make it autistic. Realistically you'd have to be carrying an internet advisor to seem autistic.
Though at that point it'd probably do an autism underflow and go to being maximum chad.

Attached: 1526199250980.png (1000x750, 806K)

looks gross in my opinion

looking boring is not a problem, I just don't want to look like the biggest spastic and I think when it comes to a laptop for uni the t450s seems to be a solid choice. Not too expensive but not tooo bulky

I said full size cards. I can't find chink 9260 that is half size.

m.aliexpress.com/item/32853420688.html

Have anyone tried that 8265 card that you can get here? Is it even half size?

Nah you won't look like a big spastic with a T450s. I don't personally like the look of it as much as the older ones but there's no need for you to worry about about looking like a sperg because of your laptop.

looks great
fagit

check'd

phew thanks mate, that's the online validation I needed. I personally like the older ones as well, especially with 3:4 factor, but I also care a bit about my public image and I really wouldn't go out with one like that if I'm not in a research group

This is news to me oh my

The extreme edition processors are a meme, use a 45W part.

what do i need to do to get youtube to work on my x40, i have tried playing videos with both mpv and pale moon and it cant play them properly. Is it just too old?

Attached: 1552517203598.png (497x480, 218K)

does it have a spare mpci-e port
try a broadcom crystalhd, supports 1080p60 cunny

What can I use the expresscard slot in my W520 for?

I think there's a little miscommunication here. Full/Half Sized mPCIE cards aren't being made, period officially. They're all M2 2422 now. Everything else from China like the one you linked are chink hybrid cards where they take the wifi module and give them a mPCIE board.

Pic related is the only form factor they come in now officially. Everything else is chink made with questionable quality

Attached: s-l1600.jpg (1431x1431, 236K)

There's a lot you can do with it. Extra usb ports, extra wifi/bluetooth/wwan, extra ethernet, fibre optic ethernet, etc.
Look up expresscard on amazon and you'll find some stuff.

Attached: fibreoptic expresscard.png (1000x1000, 343K)

>what do i need
A fucking bullet in your dumb head, you disgusting attention whoring anime pedo scum

based

What quality are you trying to play them at? My X31 can do 144p "smoothly" and 240p decently well from firefox.
It is a bit too old though.
