If most people aren't willing to pay for stuff online, adblockers are on the rise, and we don't want to get our information spied on and sold, how will tech companies make money?
You cant expect to set up a legitimate business on the basis of donations alone. I'm not trying to be an asshole or contrarian, I'm legitimately curious.

Been seeing a lot of news and media companies limit access to their content unless you pay a subscription recently.

>how will tech companies make money?
They won't. That's the whole point, to put the vast majority of them out of business.

Internet is not your market place. fuck off kike

I see where you're coming from, but I also see where you're coming from. Can't expect others to work for free.

But I don't want a huge for profit companies in the internet? I want back my hobbyist and academia oriented network. I'm fine with SOME paid services but bad journalism, startup scammers from California, normalfags (including majority of Jow Forums), social media and the television for zoomers (youtube, vines, and twitch) must go and stay go.

>how will tech companies make money?
Why do people always ask this question? Literally who cares?

Open source "system" is a system where people dedicate their time and resources for free for greater good to produce knowledge, softwares and tools, even hardwares. Having said that, communism only looks good on paper and online. Stop ruining the Internet and freedom of people.

My whole life I've been able to pirate shit I want and to buy shit I wanted to support more seriously. It can simply go on like that

You can give your money to whoever you want. It is your choice. I really don't care if some tech company will die out because users won't pay them. They should have come up with better products, contents etc for users to pay them. Their business practice is shit so they died, like any other businesses.
But if you try to change the internet, restrict it or stand in the way of our right to information and communicate then I will personally hunt you down and kill your whole family.

BS, you will probably make more money with hardcore DRM than good practices.

making money is unethical

I'll get lambasted by the jannies & trannies for this - but here it goes anyway... Crypto has been working on this with BAT & some hashing algos that can be run through the browser. Problem is every 3rd world scammer tried to push coinhive scripts into everything & shitted everything up.
BAT is huge on promises & weak on follow through so they may have missed the boat.

Most open source is made by paid developers. Proprietary software is a lot closer to communism because it's a system where they insist on charging you over and over again for any copy of the software which actually costs them nothing to produce. It looks good on paper but prevents innovation and freedom.

but as OP says, they can be easily bypassed and people will use torrents and other methods to get those contents for free. He is not wrong, but to prevent all these piracy and other shits those tech companies are trying to regulate the Internet itself and I am not fine with that. Hell, even in real life market should be left untouched and all I'm saying is Internet is not a market place in the first place so they should stop treating it like one.

Oh no, now companies will have to invest in devs, designers, and manufacturers instead of marketing, executives, and HR if they want to make a profit! They'll actually have to put out good products that people want to buy!

The industry is doomed!

Data mining, ads, and paywalls for those sites that don't have a sustainable business model without it. Give it a some years when most websites will be unmodifiable encrypted binary blobs that will only display in botnet browsers.

lol right? apple is fuuuuuuckkkked and Microshaft is too.

>how will tech companies make money?
They won't; that's the point. The internet is a socialist platform, corporate kikes have no place here.

Most """tech companies""" should not exist. I want them to go out of business.

>How will tech companies make money?
Imagine being an NPC.

By selling computers.

>If most people aren't willing to pay for stuff online
Why do you make this absurd assumption? Most people pay for Netflix/Spotify/Amazon Prime and even fucking HBO, not to mention Steam, apps in iOS/Android, etc.
Hell, even lifetime pirates like myself pay for some of those services (but I still pirate a lot).
People pirating this days really are a niche actually in comparison to the masses, we are not in 2005 anymore.

Tech companies will still make money, but they'll make significantly less than before, and the wages of developers will probably drop significantly from their current ( inflated) levels

underrated post

and as a solid example of this is the epic launcher

I do not care i am in control of my data to hell with those companies

They'll need to rethink their whole economic model which will force the next company to do the same and et caetera until the world is saved.
More seriously,

Yeah great, let's create a world where only Google and Microsoft are large enough to survive.

These guys get it. I'm cool with most tech companies going out of business. If I like their product, and if they have a sales model that actually sells their product instead of harvesting my data and selling it to advertisers, I'll buy it.
the internet would be better if we reverted back to the early stages of monetization, so I refuse to participate in shitty, new business practices.

I block their ads and scripts too, so what's your point.

No company is owed existence, and no company is entitled to my time, attention, or money. If a company wants to offer a product that I am willing and able to pay for, by all means go ahead. Most of these companies that subsist on ads do *not* have a product that the market is willing to pay for. They know it. No one would ever be willing to pay for their product, that's why they start running ads and selling the data. I am not willing to part with my statistics in exchange for using their site, either. So I don't.

Most of these companies these days aren't even trying to market a product anymore. They're shallow clickfarms designed only to harvest ad views and user data to sell to marketers. You are the product. Don't enable them. Block ads if you must, but better yet is to not even visit these sites in the first place. Let 'em starve.

Implying Google won't find ways.
Most popular browser, most popula search engine, bigges video platform. They will find a way and noone will switch to other services.

This is the guy running website advertising. Fuck him and fuck ads

By selling products that people want to pay for

> You cant expect to set up a legitimate business on the basis of donations alone
Well, don't set it up then, choose another specialty.
