If Linux is so good, and it's free, why does no one use it?
Ian Gray
Jason Gonzalez
>Linux
Why would I use a kernel by itself? Other software is needed to form a usable system.
Asher Hughes
Have you heard of android? The most popular OS on the planet?
Jackson Edwards
>Noone uses Ganooh + Linux
>Tons use Android Linux
I believe we can all see what the weak link is here.
Jace Reyes
I use it.
Wow, looks like OP's argument just fell flat.
Jeremiah Robinson
Because its poo, doesnt support games and image/video editing software and it is much harder to use than windows
only marxist retards use linux because muhh open sauce and muhh customization
Kayden Powell
I want windows xp running on top of linux
Mason Young
you need a triple digit iq to use it
Bentley Cox
non microsoft based OS = loonix?
Elijah Lee
>3.5% marketshare
>no one
Christopher Ward
Less than 5% is considered non existent, sorry user
You wont find linux on any household computer except on some retro ones that cant run newer windows
Robert Long
Sure hope you're shitposting
Jaxson Gutierrez
Why would a kernel support games and image/video editing?
A graphics layer and other userland bits are needed for that.
Reminder that most video games and also all adobe software are closed source and nonfree and therefore should never be used by anyone.
Isaiah King
I use ganooh+Loonix cuz I like to get the shit done.
I agree that gayming on ganooh+Loonix sucks and negro dick, ballsdeep, but it is just gayming.
I don't do any image/video editing but I'm looking forward to hear what is not working from you.
Ayden Lee
I use windoze because i dont like using the loonix terminal 24/7 and i actually want my gayms to run without performance losses and graphical glitches with proton and wine
simple as that
Ian Sanders
Adobe editing software is really good.
It seems like Linux has everything you need and that's a good thing, you should use whatever works for you.
I dual boot Ubuntu but I need Windows for Visual Studio and Adobe stuff.
Nicholas Brown
Mr smartass has arrived
Of course im talking about distros you fucking smart ass im just saying linux to represent all of them
Again you're a delusional marxist and an autist
just because something is closed source it doesnt mean its bad
Brody Miller
question to ask is, if the developers are so good why are they giving it away for free
Justin Anderson
I always say Linux, but it's not about distros. It's about GNU. Distors are Debian, Ubuntu, Arch etc. but all /that I know at least) use GNU components.
Brandon Thompson
It's not user friendly in the slightest
Aaron Gray
Sorry faggot but im not the type of person who gets a hard on when they see an open source program and starts to type into the terminal 30 lines of code to change the color of the icons and move their positions a bit
Jack Harris
STOP REPLYING TO BAIT THREADS

Linux only becomes really good after youre competent on the commandline. Giving your machine instructions through a text box is too much for most end users. Even clicking is too hard for most of them. I will provide a caveat and say things like Linux Mint are changing this and getting Linux onto a lot of PCs, but even still, when it breaks youve got to bust out a terminal and people cant handle that.
Joshua Rodriguez
I dont care
im not gonna write a thesis on the difference between Ganooh and loonix distros just so autists like yourself can get satisfied
Henry Jones
i'd rather navigate through folders and through documents with a GUI instead of a terminal
i cant imagine autists actually use the loonix terminal 24/7 like its the ms dos days
Noah Nguyen
Expanding on this, if you are a technically competent user there are a few things lacking. There are no great video editing suites, and gaming is still not as good as Windows does it. You cant even play many multiplayer titles due to anti cheat not working right in Wine, not to mention performance drops and weird bugs. I game on linux whenever possible and run Debian on my desktop, but even so I have a 50gb Windows dual boot with a 1tb storage drive for anything that doesnt work right on linux. My thought on it is that the only way to make linux gaming better is to play on linux, be a part of the community, and develop fixes and code for that community.
Joseph Walker
one comes preinstalled the other not?
Zachary Martinez
I used to be of the same mindset, but once I was comfortable with the terminal I preferred it. The only thing thats missing is thumbnail previews for image files. I would agree a graphical browser is superior in that regard.
Thomas Ramirez
Adobe and Microsoft and all other closed source software is objectively bad for the user. Please do not praise it. Getting yourself into a situation where you need it is the worst situation you could be in, they will have total control of your computing.
Yes instead you are a shill who gets a hardon when you see nonfree programs that force you to install spyware and pay for unnecessary "cloud services" just to use them
Lucas Johnson
Seething.
I even said I usually just call it Linux but whatever.
Easton Fisher
My problem with that stance is that to avoid shit like adobe products at some point you need to give up usability and productivity for your principles. Its a hard path to walk.
Xavier Ortiz
people want proprietary software and games.
neither is in linux. so people wont use linux
and the reason why developers wont make these for linux is because no one use linux.
its a loop
one has to make the compromise first.
and since installing linux is free, but developing for linux is not, its the users who have to switch and ask developers to make software for linux
i dont get it. developers says that in order to get clients they need to make software for the plataform who has more people as people wont buy new hardware, or buy a mac, if they already have windows. but with linux, there is not additional cost to get linux. its free. the end user has nothing to lose. the developers could just make software exclusive for linux and people would not have problems installing linux. as they dont have to spend money for it
Dominic Gonzalez
> doesnt support games and image/video editing software
It's not the kernel that "supports" programs, it's the other way around. If Adobe wanted they could port Photoshop on Linux. Besides, there are many good image/video editors that run on Linux, for example Davinci Resolve and Krita. Windows gaymes that use Vulkan and OpenGL libraries can easily run on Linux using Steam Proton. Even DirectX is supported in some cases.
Brody Cruz
No i simply dont care if i a program is open source or not
I havent licensed my windows and i havent licensed adobe software either, i keep renewing the adobe license with an exploit
No they arent spyware, if you are so worried about privacy stop using services such as youtube, google and social medias and go live in a cave
Ryan Fisher
Why is it hard? Productivity should never be more important than freedom. Nobody deserves to lose their rights just so the vendor can get to charge you an extra $2 a month
Only a fool would want proprietary software and games
Leo Ramirez
Yes but those who run on Proton and Wine lose significant performance
Anthony Cooper
Apparently I can't run games on my Android phone running Linux! Thanks for helping user, I guess all those games on the Play Store must be viruses masked as games.
Blake Murphy
Again 99% of people dont care if a software is open source or not and multiplayer games would be chaotic if they were open source, they wouldnt work at all if they were open source
If you want open source vidya games then go ahead and mod singleplayer gayms
Benjamin Butler
>nobody uses it
I use it OP
Alexander Richardson
You couldn't sound more like you're from /v/. Doom is open source. Quake is open source.
Ayden Young
Play Resident evil 2 remake on your phone loonix phone and try to create it from the start because you get a hard on with open source softwares
Nice fallacy tho, keep being a smartass
Zachary Jackson
Using their software illegally is just as bad and gives them even more excuses to try to take your freedom away, don't do it. Also I don't use any google services or social media and neither should you.
Cooper Torres
/v/ is as gay as Jow Forums
Carson Myers
So you dont use youtube? or not even sites for news?
Isaac Jenkins
no board, not even /lgbt/hm/cm/, is as gay as Jow Forums
Chase Wilson

Lincoln Sanders
But thats the problem. On principles the closed software violates my freedoms. But from a practical standpoint it doesnt affect me much at all. So its an easy compromise to use non free software that has superior functionality. There is a line to be drawn though, at least for myself. Cloud based technology and technology with oppressive licensing schemes sucks. I either break that software to work as I wish or avoid it entirely.
I guess everyone has their limit when it comes to the restriction of freedom from technology.
Charles Watson
Please tell me what's so important about open source vidya games
David Rivera
Proprietary multiplayer games are all botnet trash. Please go back to /v/ if you want to talk about your fortnite boner. Having an irrational fear of vidoe game cheaters is not an excuse to take away the rights of the user to modify the software that is running on their own computer.
Jose Morgan
I want windows 2000 on top of linux
Asher Hughes
what will you gain if a game or a program is open source and what will you lose if its closed source?
Oliver Stewart
>fortnite boner
fortnite is trash just like the other battle royale games such as pubg and apex legends
Kayden Sullivan
>person plays video games ever
>hurrrrr go back to /v/
Fuck off user. Gaming is a secondary hobby. My main hobby is tech and I sacrifice to play games on linux. Its a valid criticism if you ever play games at all, it doesnt just come from /v/irgins who cant live without their gaymin.
Noah Torres
Hi Pajeet
> Play Resident evil 2 remake on your phone loonix phone and try to create it from the start because you get a hard on with open source softwares
What do you mean with "try to create it from the start"? Why would I rewrite that game from scratch? Why are you assuming that I get a hard on from using open source software? I use some proprietary software when it's necessary, such as WhatsApp and some games on my Xbox. I'd rather not use the first, but everybody uses it here in Europe so I have to adapt and give my messages to the zucc.
> Nice fallacy tho, keep being a smartass
What exactly is my fallacy? Android games run on Linux, how is that false?
Christian Peterson
I don't know, I never said I only play open source games or that I hate proprietary games. In general I prefer software to be open source because it's possible to check if it's spying you or doing anything that it shouldn't be doing.
Kayden Rivera
Because modding can change the way a game works but thats not enough for you, you want to be able to change the way the engine works, in that case rebuilding the case from the start
>Xbox
retard lmao
I was talking about PC games on loonix and you turned it into pc games on android or android games on linux, either way keep seething
Jack Peterson
i forgot to mention that whatsapp is botnet and its owned by facebook
Liam Barnes
From a practical standpoint, not much changes, which is the point Im making. From a point of principles, however, its an argument of potentially having your freedom and liberty trod on my the owner of the proprietary tech vs the tech being open enough that you may change it and distribute those changes as you wish. If the creator of libre software tried to violate your liberty, the tenents of libre software would ensure you can prevent this.
It doesnt translate to concrete examples well because right now it is still mostly principle. But as time goes on, we seeore and more examples of harmful proprietary software trends, such as telemetry you cant remove, abusive licensing schemes, and holding data hostage on a group of servers somewhere. All abuses of liberty and freedom that can be circumvented were the software libre.
Matthew Morales
>have to use messenger for unishit
>that meant making a facebook
fucking zucc deleted my account for not giving him any of the information he wanted, so i had to send him my id, just fuck my shit up
Gavin Ross
Protectionism is needed for a company to survive, dont expect good software to be open source
Henry Williams
>I guess everyone has their limit when it comes to the restriction of freedom from technology.
This is pretty accurate. I'm not a freedom advocate like Stallman, but DRM drives up the walls.
Robert Anderson
I use youtube, but only through tor and with newpipe or mpsyt. News sites also only through tor and with js disabled.
Practically it does for me because nearly every software that tries to take my freedom away also is a trap to try and vendor lock me. In the case of nonfree games they are all designed to be addictive and waste my time and get me angry at the guy who just killed me so that I impulse buy some microtransaction items, when I could be saving my time and money for things that actually matter
Joshua Ward
A company making money off of software != high quality software. Generally you would be right as more money can hire more talent, but the two things are not inextricably linked.
Leo Bell
You went from a basement dweller to a cave dweller, so much for your privacy that you are willing to install botnet shit on your computer to prevent botnets
Matthew Clark
>Protectionism is needed for a company to survive
That's only true if that company is not competitive enough.
Jaxon Harris
>Protectionism is needed for a company to survive
Do americans really believe this, and then have the nerve to claim that nonfree software is somehow more capitalist than software that is free as in freedom?
Henry Russell
Modding, source ports etc?
Benjamin Smith
> you want to be able to change the way the engine works
I never said that I want to do that
> >Xbox
> retard lmao
Why? I want the least amount of proprietary software on my PC and I don't want to deal with updates every time I turn on my gayming machine. The Xbox updates games when it's on standby, and I don't have the problem of Windows automatically downloading updates while I'm playing some online multiplayer game.
> I was talking about PC games on loonix and you turned it into pc games on android or android games on linux, either way keep seething
You never said you were talking specifically about PC games, you were talking about games on Linux in (I'm assuming that was you because of the replies chain). Also, I never mentioned specifically PC games on Android, I just implied that there are plenty of games you can play on Android, and since Android uses the Linux kernel those games are running on Linux. In fact, if they're compatible with x86 processors you can even run them on a desktop PC with Linux using Anbox, Chrome OS or similar software.
I know. I mentioned it to prove that I'm not an open source purist and that I use proprietary software when necessary.
Zachary Roberts
You can only make money with proprietary software. If the code your company worked hard on was available for anyone else you could be competing with your own invention. Anyone could just legally redistribute your program and give it away for free insted ov making money from it yourself.
Caleb Lewis
1% has 90% the money.
1% has 100% the desktop linux.
It's good to be elite.
Joshua Richardson
RedHat makes money with open source software, so do many other companies
Joshua Green
Windows doesnt automatically download updates whenever it wants but ok keep shilling for xbox and loonix, xbox is microsoft botnet anyways so you're trying to prevent botnet after botnet by using a different kind of botnet
Jackson Bailey
You should have to compete with your own invention.
Remember that patents only exist to incentivize making inventions available to the public so markets can stay competitive.
Ryder Hernandez
This. Linux is used in Android and half of the world is using it.
Nicholas Richardson
I have audited tor source code, there is no botnet. Tell me though where is the one that you claim exists?
Luis Williams
>you could be competing with your own invention.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
Dylan Johnson
I use Xbox for games because this way Microsoft only gets my data relative to the games I play. If I used Windows they would also know which programs I use, where I am, what I search for online, what files I have on my computer, etc.
Blake Richardson
linux is a kernel, retards
Nolan Sanders
Enjoy your inferior experience, peasant
Gabriel Foster
I use it. For production & gayymes
Jonathan Ortiz
you could dual boot windows and use it for games only but whatever keep shilling for loonix
Jose Hernandez
I don't care that much about graphics, and I need a laptop for university. If I wanted to play games on Windows I'd need a more powerful laptop than what I have right now, and the price/performance ratio would be too high compared to a shitty ThinkPad + an Xbox.
Asher Ward
Gaming laptops suck anyways and when its time to upgrade you need to buy another one which is gonna set you back another 1 to 2 thousand dollars
Caleb Morgan
kernel
Robert Morales
gahnoo
Bentley Watson
it's pronounced gnew
Jace Kelly
>moving the goal posts this hard
Gavin Adams
Dual booting is retarded. If you use windows for the important stuff what the fuck do you need Loonix for? If GNU/Linux is so good why do you need to dual boot with it?
